Passage 1
Seeing the disappointment on his daughter’s face because,at 400 pounds, her dad couldn’t play with her,was the fuel one father needed to turn his life around after 25 years.
In 1994,Murphy was violently attacked by three men.It took him seven months to recover from his injuries, including relearning how to walk.
“I used that as an excuse to be lazy,”he said.“Over the years,I ate a lot and drank a lot and put on a lot of weight.”
Over the next two decades,Murphy gained 200 pounds, drank nearly every day and struggled with PTSD from the attack. “I hid it for almost 25 years.I looked like the happy guy at the pub.But I was drinking to escape,” he said.“And then she came along.”
The birth of his daughter,Chloe,in 2014 sparked a desire to turn his life around.Murphy went to a nearby gym.But just 20 minutes after getting on a treadmill,he heard two men mocking him, saying the back of his neck looked like “a pack of sausages”.Serious anxiety from his PTSD made him give up and go home.
Four years later,in 2018,Murphy was leaving a playground with Chloe when she asked him to race her home.
“I said,‘Sorry sweetie, you know Dad can’t run,’and the look of her was not just sadness, but disappointment.I’ll never forget it,” Murphy said.“That lit a fire in me.”
He started boxing, eating healthily and stopped drinking.Murphy eventually lost 170 pounds and got his PTSD under control.
“Now,we race all the time, and she’s smiling all the time,” he said of his daughter.
Almost five years into his transformation,Murphy said Chloe remains his motivation every day.
“I used to sometimes sit around and wonder what my purpose was and why I was kept around,” he said.“And then I look at her and that’s pretty clear.”

ICON,a construction tech company, along with Lennar,a home construction company and Bjarke Ingels Group (BIG),an architecture company, are teaming up to develop Wolf Ranch—a 100-home,3D-printed community.
“Wolf Ranch marks the largest community of its kind in development in the world and in partnership with one of the largest home builders in the country,Lennar,” Dmitri Julius, chief of special projects at ICON,told Fox News Digital.
The partnership between Austin-based ICON and Lennar “offers a promising path towards an alternate method of delivering technology-driven homes that meet the rising demand in desirable communities,” Julius added.
Printing for Wolf Ranch started in the fall of 2022—and reservations for homes are set to begin on June 10,2023.The overall goal for Wolf Ranch is to “get people excited that the future of homebuilding is here,” Julius also said.
ICON and its team are building a community with new innovative technology.“By combining innovative robotics, software and advanced materials,we are creating beautiful, resilient homes co-designed by a world-renowned architecture firm,BIG,that are technologically advanced, environmentally sustainable and architecturally striking,” Julius told Fox News Digital.
Those at ICON,Lennar and BIG believe now is a good time to get started on this project because of America’s housing shortage.“This problem is a problem of scale(规模) and the solution also has to be at scale,” Julius said.
“In the future,we believe robots and drones will build entire neighborhoods, towns and cities,” he added.“We hope to look back at Lennar’s Wolf Ranch community as the place where robotic construction at a large scale began.”
Georgetown is one of the fastest growing suburbs north of Austin, according to Julius, making it an ideal location to break ground.

Passage 3
Growing up,Pittsburgh native Judy Baumgartner saw big plastic pipes from industrial plants going into the Ohio River. This was during the 1960s and 1970s,when industrial plants still dominated the city’s waterfront.Pittsburgh’s steel, coal and other industries had long sustained the local economy, but they also released pollution into the water.
Many of those industries have largely disappeared now.Baumgartner assumed the Ohio River was in good health.
The river is much healthier than it was 50 years ago.Congress passed groundbreaking legislation, the Clean Water Act,in 1972,which helped to clean up polluted waterways like the Ohio River.
But the river—which supplies drinking water to 5 million people and is home to more than 150 species of fish—is still under threat, according to a report released this week from the conservation advocacy organization American Rivers.
For nearly four decades,American Rivers has been identifying the most endangered rivers in the U.S. and creates its annual list. This year, the report lists 10 rivers as endangered.A section of the Colorado River, which flows through Grand Canyon National Park,is the most endangered river in the country.
The Colorado River supplies millions of people throughout the West with water for drinking and agriculture.Prolonged drought worsened by climate change, however, has left the river’s reservoirs insecurely low. That means there’s less water to send past Glen Canyon Dam and into the Colorado River, which flows through the Grand Canyon.
Just like the Colorado River, climate change also threatens the Ohio River, along with legacy pollution and new industrial pollution.
Protecting this precious resource is essential. The organization is calling on Congress to designate(指定) the Ohio River as a federally protected water system, which would help fund its restoration.Protecting the Ohio River should be a priority because it will become an even more crucial freshwater source as other parts of the country, like the West and Southwest, struggle with water scarcity and drought.
1.What does the author want to show by telling the story of Judy Baumgartner
A.Judy thought the Ohio River was in good health in the past.
B.Industrial factories were major contributors to pollution.
C.The Ohio River was seriously polluted but now it’s better.
D.Industrial development has both advantages and disadvantages.
2.What is the root cause of the Colorado River’s being endangered
A.Legacy pollution.
B.Its reservoirs’ low levels.
C.New industrial pollution.
D.Acute shortage of rainfall.
3.What can we learn from the last paragraph
A.The Ohio River is important to the whole country.
B.The whole country is suffering from lack of water.
C.The Ohio River is a federally protected water system.
D.There will be a special fund to restore the Ohio River.
4.What is the text mainly about
A.The annual list of the most endangered rivers.
B.Protecting the Ohio River should be a priority.
C.There is no delay in protecting the Colorado and Ohio rivers.
D.The Colorado and Ohio rivers are among the most endangered.

Passage 1
根据后面的“saying the back of his neck looked like ‘a pack of sausages’”可知,说他脖子后面看起来像“一包香肠”,显然是在取笑他,因此选A项。
Passage 2
从第二段的“ICON,a construction tech company,along with Lennar...are teaming up to develop Wolf Ranch”可知,是三家公司联合开发的Wolf Ranch,因此A项错误;从第二段的“Wolf Ranch—a 100-home,3D-printed community”和最后一段的“the first neighborhood entirely made of 3D-printed homes”可知,B项正确。从第六段的“environmentally sustainable and architecturally striking”可知,这种社区环保而且架构上引人注目,因此C项错误;从第六段的“co-designed by a world-renowned architecture firm,BIG”可知,D项错误。
Passage 3
