With the stars,the sun, the moon, and the planets for us to admire, our sky has never been short of attraction. The activity of sending things into the sky can date back to ancient times.
It was believed that sky lanterns were first made in China. The Chinese used them like small hot-air balloons for signaling（发信号） in as early as the 3rd century B.C. These sky lanterns were made of paper and had an opening at the lowest side and a small fire inside. Although sky lanterns were used in wars（战争） at first, later on, they were used in many different ways as they became popular with children at festivals. Today, sky lanterns stand for family reunions（团聚） and show people's good wishes. In this way, they have become a cultural symbol. During festivals, people from different parts of the world can enjoy the beautiful scene when sky lanterns are sent into the sky.
What we have in the sky is not only sky lanterns but also spaceships. On June 17, 2021,China successfully sent the Shenzhou-12 spaceship into space. The first three members of a team of spacemen were on board. They planned to stay there for three months. Besides carrying out（执行） spacewalks, they would test some technologies on the space station.
From sky lanterns to spaceships, our interest in the beauty of the sky has developed through the centuries. The interest is so strong that we are not satisfied with what can be seen by our eyes. From looking up at the stars and sky lanterns to sending people into space, humans have invented different tools to clearly see the yet unseen（尚未看见的东西）. With all these inventions and discoveries, the sky has become a place within our reach.
A sky lantern flies when the candle is lit（点燃）. As the temperature rises, the lantern becomes bigger and its density（密度） becomes lower. This causes it to rise into the sky.
