Once, when I was a teenager, my father and I were standing in line to buy tickets for the circus(马戏团), Finally there was only one family between us and ticket counter.
This family made a big impression on me. There were eight children all probably under the age of twelve. You could tell they didn't have a lot of money. Their clothes were not expensive but they were clean. The children were well behaved, all of them standing in line, two-by-two behind their parents, holding hands. They were excitedly talking about the crowns, elephants and other acts they would see the night with their brothers and or sisters in a low voice.
One could sense they had never been to the circus before. It promises to be highlight of their young lives. The father and mother were at the head of the pack, standing proud as could be. The mother was holding her husband's hand looking up at him as if to say you are my knight in shining armor.
The father was smiling and responding in pride, looking at her as if to say, “You got that right.” The ticket lady asked the father how many tickets he wanted. He proudly responded, “Please let me buy eight children tickets and two adult tickets so I can take my family to the circus”.
The ticket lady gave the price. The mother let go of her husband’s hand, her head dropped. the father’s lips began to shake and leaned l little closer and asked, “How much did you say ”
The ticket lady again quoted the price. The man didn’t have enough money to take them to the circus
Actually we were not wealthy in any sense. So I understand how the kids would feel. I felt sorry for them.
Seeing what was going on, my dad put his hand in his pocket, pulled out a $20 bill and dropped it on the ground. ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
That day my father and I went back to our car and drove home without any tickets. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

(H=Henry B=Barber)

B:Oh, no, no. Please don’t worry!(wearing a big smile) Nothing to worry about!Nothing at all! Please come back whenever you like. It will be my honour to serve you!(showing Henry out with a bow)
拓展续写:
Seeing what was going on, my dad put his hand in his pocket, pulled out a $20 bill and dropped it on the ground. Then he picked it up and patted the man on the shoulder and said, “Excuse me, sir, this fell out of your pocket.” The man turned around and saw the money. He knew what was going on. He looked straight into my dad’s eyes and took my dad’s hands in both of his, squeezed tightly onto the $20 bill and with his lips shaking again and a tear running down his cheek, he replied, “Thank you, thank you, sir.” This really means a lot to me and my family.”
That day my father and I went back to our car and drove home without any tickets. We didn’t go to the circus that night. When I asked Dad why he did so, Dad said, “My child, it was a desperate, heartbreaking and embarrassing situation for a father. Surely he wasn’t begging for a handout, but he reminded me of my father when I was young,” He paused for a while, as if wandering in his memory. “We should appreciate what we have obtained from life and seize every opportunity to help others. We didn’t go to the circus tonight, but we didn’t go without. Now, who wants an ice cream ”

It was an evening in 1967. Seated on my parents' bed, I listened to their talk about budgets and paychecks. My then-six-year-old mind concluded, wrongly, that my family was poor.
Dad stood at his desk, looking at the bills. He wore old jeans, a blue shirt and white shoes stained grass-green from cutting the grass in our yard.
Until 8 pm, their money talk continued, and Dad joined me on the bed. For fun, I pulled the metal watchhand on his wrist(手腕),which was brown as a result of his often working in the sun. When I saw his white skin under the watchhand, a thought hit me like icy water: Dad worked hard and my growth surely had cost him much money. "But exactly how much " I wondered.
I had never considered hospital bills, the countless meals I had eaten, the price of clothes, and so on.
"Daddy, " I interrupted their talk, "how much did I cost "
"Oh, let me see," he said absent-mindedly. Then he placed his watch on the desk and continued, "About a million dollars."
At that time I didn't know that he misunderstood my question and actually meant I was worth a million dollars. I was just shocked by his answer and thought about his efforts for me. Because of me, he did two jobs. Because of me, he drove an old car. Because of me, he didn't buy new clothes. Now. I already owed him a million dollars. How could I return so much money to him I felt so stressed. Anyway, I decided to firstly return him some.
At 8:30pm, with my eyes down, I inched off the bed and slowly walked into my room. On a shelf there stood my money box, which held all the money I had and valued so much:six dollars, one for each birthday.
Para1: I stood on the chair and took the money box down. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Para2: “You said I cost you a million dollars,” I explained, crying quietly. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
