Lesson 80 The Crystal Palace
水晶宫与世博会于1851年同时诞生,水晶宫是英国伦敦一个以钢铁为骨架、玻璃为主要建材的建筑,是十九世纪的英国建筑奇观之一。
。“水晶宫”建成于1851年,最初位于伦敦市中心的海德公园内,是万国工业博览会场地。
1854年被迁到伦敦南部,在1936年的一场大火中被付之一炬。

display, demonstrate, exhibit, show均有“展示”的意思。display和exhibit着重公开展示、陈列供人参观,两词可以通用。exhibit做名词时可作“展览品,陈列品”将,display无此词义。
show为一般用词,指拿出来给别人看。exhibit比show正式,含有“展览作品(产品),举办展览会”的意思。demonstrate指不仅给人看,而且还操作表演给人看,并作详细介绍,因此含有“演示,示范表演(操作)”的意思。
