As I grew up, my grandma, who I have been told that I am so very much like, would say things such as, “that is not a ladylike way to sit”, or “that is not a word that ladies use”. My grandma is one of the classiest, most genuine, and most gentle women that I know. I try to be half the person she is.
I have always considered myself a “lady”. I pay close attention to my manners. I smile at strangers, offer my seat to the elderly, and hold the door open for the person behind me. However, I recently met a woman in passing that made me question what I have been taught for the last 21 years. The conversation we had was about “girls these days” and how they differ from the way girls were in the past. She said that there was a big difference between a “lady” and a “woman”. I looked at her curiously.
“A real lady does not give her opinions or feelings: those are women. And women these days always make the mistake of offering their opinions, and feelings, and talking out of turn,” I smiled at her politely, wished her a pleasant evening.
Unlike most conversations one would have with a stranger, this one stuck with me. It turns out that I am not a “lady”. But I have accepted that truth with my whole heart. I take great pride in my opinions, my brain, and the bravery in which I can stand up for myself and the things that I believe in. I am this way, because I am a young version of my grandma. And I know that she would express that she is “ladylike”. But, in reality, she is a strong, independent and smart woman.
With this, I would like to remind young women that it is not wrong to voice your opinions, embrace your beliefs, and be independent. Throughout your life, if someone comes along and quiets your voice, makes your opinions feel wrong, or take no notice of your feelings: smile, nod politely, and keep doing what you were doing anyway.
Which of the following words can best describe the author’s grandma
A.Caring and sensitive. B.Determined and talkative.
C.Ladylike and strong-minded. D.Humorous and outgoing.
25. According to the woman the author met, what distinguishes a lady from a woman
A.Taking turns to talk. B.Making few mistakes.
C.Expressing her viewpoints. D.Listening to others’ opinions.
26. Why did the author find the conversation with the woman unforgettable
A.Because it hurt her pride in herself.
B.Because it shook her belief in her grandma.
C.Because it confused her about her identity.
D.Because it made her understand herself better.
27. What is the author’s suggestion for women rejected and ignored by others
A.To reason with others. B.To put up with others.
C.To insist on their own way. D.To turn their back on others.

Tea was first discovered and drunk in China. As the hometown of tea, China has a long history of processing and drinking tea. Today, China accounts for 60% of tea plantations in the world. A great number of tea gardens are in more than 20 provinces throughout the country.
For a long time, tea was used as herbal medicine. During the Western Zhou Dynasty (1046 BC—771 BC), it was a religious offering. The earliest record about tea as a drink appeared in the Western Han Dynasty (202BC—9), which indicates the actual time may be earlier than that. Chinese tea culture prospered during the Tang Dynasty (618—907) because of a famous person, Lu Yu, Tea Sage of China. The Tea Classics written by him is a tea encyclopedia, detailing rules concerning various aspects of tea, such as growth areas for tea trees, wares and skills for processing and tasting of tea, and the history of Chinese tea. Also, in this period, tea seeds were taken to Japan but the tea culture didn’t spread in Japan until the South Song Dynasty (1127—1279). In the Song Dynasty, Arabic merchants exported tea from Quanzhou, Fujian Province. Tea was sold to Southeast Asian and South African countries in the Ming Dynasty(1368—1644). In 1610, it went to Europe via Macau in a Dutch merchant ship. Thus it became an international drink.
For Chinese people, it is not only a popular beverage with a lot of health benefits, but also keeps a central piece of Chinese traditional culture. Tea and tea sets should match surrounding elements such as breeze, bright moon, pines, bamboo, plums and snow. All these show the ultimate goal of Chinese culture: the harmonious unity of human beings with nature.
Chinese tea can be classified in many ways, such as quality, producing area, growth environment and processing method. The most common classification of Chinese tea is: the basic tea and the reprocessing tea.

Have you ever imagined what will happen in the ocean when an earthquake happens underground If you’ve ever felt a big earthquake or seen one on television, you know that it has the power to shake the ground and move large buildings. When a great earthquake happens under the ocean floor, the earthquake’s large energy is transferred (转移) to the water above it, creating a series of water waves called a tsunami (海啸). The word comes from the Japanese words tsu (harbor) and nami (wave).
Normal ocean waves have an average wavelength (波长) of about 100 meters and an average height of about 2 meters, while a tsunami can have a wavelength of 193 kilometers or more. Travelling at up to about 800 kilometers per hour in the deep ocean, a tsunami might be at a height of as little as 0.9 meters, which makes it almost impossible to be noticed, even for a ship in the area.
As a tsunami approaches a coastline, things begin to change greatly. As it approaches shallow (浅的) waters, the wave speed drops below about 80 kilometers per hour. The wavelength also decreases much, but amplitude—the height of the wave—increases greatly, leading to the huge wall of water along coastlines, which causes great damage to coastal areas.
About 80% of tsunamis happen in the Pacific Ocean. Tsunamis cannot be prevented, but areas that experience tsunamis regularly have developed tsunami warning systems to give as much advance warning as possible to people who live along the coastline. For example, there are tsunami warning signs and warning sirens (警报器) on the top of nearby hills along Japanese coastlines. And many Japanese coastal communities have built tsunami walls, floodgates and others to stop or change the direction of water from incoming tsunamis.
32.According to the passage, tsunamis are hard to find mainly because of ________.
A.their low sound B.their low height
C.their fast speed D.their short wavelength
33.What does the underlined word “decreases” in Paragraph 3 probably mean
A.Changes. B.Develops. C.Reduces. D.Produces.
34.The last paragraph is mainly about ________.
A.how to study tsunamis
B.where tsunamis always happen
C.what tsunami warning systems include
D.how to reduce damages caused by tsunamis
35.Which of the following is TRUE according to the passage
A.The word “tsunami” comes from Japanese.
B.An earthquake is sure to cause a tsunami.
C.About 80 percent of tsunamis happen in Japan.
D.Tsunamis can be stopped by warning systems.

Dear everyone,
Congratulations on the tenth anniversary of English club. I feel honored to have the chance to witness this great moment with all of you.
I joined the club last year as a freshman, from which I benefited a lot both academically and inter personally. It was here that I met many like-minded friends. Of all the activities, I like English debate best. Not only does it challenge me intellectually, but it also sharpens my debating skills.
I hope more speech contests will be held in order that we can improve our English. May more students join our club.
That’s all. Thank you!
