One.语境
1. 过去某时刻正在进行的动作
E.g. What were you doing at eight last night
I was sleeping when it started to rain.
Mr. Green ______ to the manager now. You’d better
call him later.

2. 某个短暂性动作发生的背景 ---常用when & while引导
E.g. I was reading the newspaper when the big earthquake
happened.

Two.动词结构
现在进行时am/is/are doing
was/were doing
E.g. What were you doing at this moment yesterday
Three.动词变化
进行时的动词变化
1. 直接加ing (be, go, ask, study, see…)
2. 以重读闭音节结尾，末尾只有一个辅音字母，双写辅音字母
再加ing (sit, begin, admit, run, stop…)
3. 不发音的字母e结尾，去e加ing (make, take, write…)
4. 少数以ie结尾的单音节词，把ie改为y，再加ing (lie, die, tie)
