Whether you are hoping to relax or you are looking forward to staying active in vacation, seeking out great hikes is a good choice. If you are planning a trip to southern California, or you live in San Diego, now it is time to search for new hiking trails (路线). Here are some of the most popular hikes in San Diego.
Cedar Greek Falls
For this hike, you’ll hike from the Cedar Creek Falls to the Devil's Punch Bowl, which is a pool at the base of Cedar Creek Falls. It can really heat up in the summer, and it is hard to hike, so be sure to pack lots of water and protein-filled snacks.
Cuyamaca Peak (顶峰)
The peak is in Cuyamaca Rancho State Park, and you’ll see plenty of snow-capped trees if you do this hike in the winter. There are 37 trails in the state park, but you’ll want to stick to Azalea Glen Loop. It’s a difficult seven-mile hike that will bring you right to Cuyamaca Peak.
Cowles Mountain
It is well known that Cowles Mountain is the highest point in San Diego—so it’s worth visiting for the fact that you can see Mexico from the peak. The three-mile hike is quite difficult. If you are willing to wake up before the sun, Cowles Mountain is a beautiful spot to watch the sunrise. It’s one of San Diego’s most popular hikes, so starting early might also help avoid the crowds.
Swami’s Beach
Take the trail from Swami’s Beach to Cardiff Beach and you will experience impressive ocean views and the smooth sound of waves crashing onto the sand. As an easy out-and-back hike, the path is accessible (可进入的) from Swami’s Beach and is about three miles in total.
21.What do you need to take if you choose the Cedar Creek Falls
A.A raincoat. B.An umbrella.
C.Food and water. D.A hat and a map.
22.What is Cowles Mountain famous for

I was eleven years old, standing outside when I watched the house that I grew up in burn to the ground. A few minutes earlier, I was asleep in my nice, warm bed.
My grandmother’s bedroom was just next to mine and my brother’s. A fire had broken out there and awakened her first. While I stumbled(蹒跚) around in the smoke and darkness, my brother ran from room to room quickly, waking everyone in the house. The house. however, was over 50 years old and made of wood. Before we could do anything the fire consumed(毁灭) it. We all made it outside before the flames destroyed every room.
I stood there shivering(颤抖) while the fire destroyed my hooks, clothes, and toys. I watched helplessly while my mum cried. I wondered what was going to happen to us now that we had lost all of our things.
As I looked around, though, I realized something for the first time: The things that matter aren’t things. I saw my elder brother running to get help. I saw my grandmother and dad hugging together. I realised at that moment that we were all alive. Everything that was important survived the fire. Our lives would continue. We would survive without the things that were burning. We would all be around to love each other for many years to come. And that was all that mattered.
I still think of that fire in the night that helped me to become who I am today. It helped me to learn that the love we share is far more important than the things we have. Love others. Help everyone. Let the fire inside of you make this world a warmer place.
24.Who found the fire at first
A.The author himself. B.The author’s grandmother,
C.The author’s mother. D.The author’s elder brother.
25.Which word could best describe the author when he ran outside

26.What’s the meaning of the underlined sentence in Paragraph 4
A.Lost things can’t come back.
B.Getting others’ help is necessary.
C.Material wealth isn’t the most important.
D.Lives must continue on if we lack love.
27.What happens to the author after the fire
A.He plans to build a new house. B.He is still what he used to be.
C.He only shares his love with his family. D.He is ready to help those in need.

A British energy supplier has apologized for the “poorly judged and unhelpful” advice sent to customers which suggested they could snuggle(依偎) up to their pets and exercise to cut back on their heating bills.
SSE,which is owned by OVO Energy, suggested 10 “simple and cost effective ways to keep warm this winter,” according to the Financial Times. Eating bowls of oatmeal, doing star jumps and cuddling pets were among the recommendations on the now-deleted web page.
In a statement sent to CNN Tuesday, a spokesperson for OVO Energy said, “Recently a link to a blog containing energy saving tips was sent to customers. We understand how difficuIt the situation will be for many of our customers this year.” The spokesperson added, “We are working hard to find meaningful solutions as we approach this energy crisis, and we recognize that the content of this blog was poorly judged and unhelpful. We are embarrassed and sincerely apologize.”
Some British businesses and households have seen their energy bills rise in recent months, as suppliers deal with a sharp rise in wholesale gas prices. British consumers will pay roughly f790 more to heat and light their homes this year, according to Bank of America. Wholesale European gas prices have jumped by 400% over the previous year and electricity prices have increased by 300%, the bank’s analysts said last week. The increases have been driven by cold weather, nuclear plant outages in France and reduced gas flow from Russia.
According to National Energy Action, more than 4 million UK households are facing fuel poverty—a figure which the charity believes could rise by 2 million in April when a cap(上限) on energy prices is expected to increase.
OVO Energy removed its advice after a wave of angry responses from lawmakers and campaigners. Following the apology, British lawmaker Darren Jones, who chairs Parliament’s business select committee, tweeted: “Good, I’m glad they apologized. I’m not sure who signed off a marketing campaign telling people to wear a jumper and eat porridge instead of turning on the heating if you can’t afford it.”

A few years ago, I was having dinner with some good friends from work to celebrate the upcoming Christmas holiday. As we were finishing up that evening, one of my friends told us a very sad story about something that had happened the day before. Her son’s friend was in his md-twenties and self-employed. He lived on the second floor of a house nearby. Someone who lied on the first floor had been smoking and fell asleep. The house burned down. All the people escaped, but the house was completely destroyed with everything in it.
All this young man had were the clothes on his back and his pickup truck. He had no family in the area and nowhere to go. My friend was putting him up for a few days until he could decide what to do next.
Those of us sitting at the dinner table were horrified. Everyone started opening their wallets to contribute money. My friend put up her hand and said, “He will not accept money. We tried to persuade him, but he thinks it is charity and won’t take it. All he wants is a warm coat and some used clothing if anyone has some.”
We were all more than happy to fulfil this request and were told that he wore a size 2XL. None of us knew men who wore that size, so it was going to be a bit of a challenge to take care of this quickly.
It was a typically cold New York Christmas, and I couldn’t imagine him without a coat. I shed tears on the drive home, a combination of grateful tears for the many blessings I had in my life and sad tears for this poor young man and his troubles.
I went to bed and woke up in the middle of the night with a very clear thought in my mind. I was to find this young man a coat.

A recent art exhibition in Florida honored the animal often seen as man’s most intelligent friend, the dolphin. The exhibition in the Florida Keys featured life-sized dolphin paintings mainly made of wood, as well as glass and stone. The dolphins were shown at business areas and along the beach. Organizers paid $ 750 to cover the artists’ fees and the cost of the materials.
There were about 100 dolphin themes. They showed the works of local artists, as well as the beach atmosphere the Keys are famous for. Probably the most unique was its artist, Pandora. Pandora, the dolphin painter, is a real dolphin, at the Dolphin Research Center. The playful artist makes colors across a dolphin painting, holding a brush in its mouth. The exhibition will be held by the Monroe Council of the Arts as part of a plan to make the Keys an international arts center.

(2022秋·浙江台州·高一台州市书生中学校联考期中)Whether you are hoping to relax or you are looking forward to staying active in vacation, seeking out great hikes is a good choice.
22.What is Cowles Mountain famous for
A.The difficult hiking trail. B.Being the peak in San Diego.
C.The beautiful sunrise. D.The great length of the trail.

A.Calm. B.Helpful. C.Frightened. D.Disappointed.
根据第二段“My grandmother’s bedroom was just next to mine and my brother’s. A fire had broken out there and awakened her first.”(我祖母的卧室就在我和我哥哥的卧室旁边。
根据第三段“I stood there shivering(颤抖) while the fire destroyed my hooks, clothes, and toys.”(我站在那里瑟瑟发抖,大火烧毁了我的钩子、衣服和玩具。)
根据第四段“As I looked around, though, I realized something for the first time: The things that matter aren’t things. I saw my elder brother running to get help. I saw my grandmother and dad hugging together. I realised at that moment that we were all alive. Everything that was important survived the fire. Our lives would continue. We would survive without the things that were burning. We would all be around to love each other for many years to come. And that was all that mattered.”(然而,当我环顾四周时,我第一次意识到了一件事:重要的东西不是东西。
根据最后一段“I still think of that fire in the night that helped me to become who I am today. It helped me to learn that the love we snare is far more important than the things we have. Love others. Help everyone. (2022秋·浙江·高一浙江省普陀中学校联考期中)A British energy supplier has apologized for the “poorly judged and unhelpful” advice sent to customers which suggested they could snuggle(依偎) up to their pets and exercise to cut back on their heating bills.
28.Why did OVO Energy apologize for its advice on the ways of keeping warm sent to customers
A.The advice is difficult to follow.
B.The ways are too simple and costly.
C.The suggestions are ineffective solutions.
D.The blog was not widely viewed by customers.
29.Which is the result of the energy crisis for British
A.The gas flow from Russia has increased greatly.
B.Customers can’t afford the increasing price of coal.
C.The British government has found meaningful methods to face it.
D.Energy bills rise too sharply in winter for most UK households.
30.What can you know from Darren Jones’ words in the last paragraph
A.He signed off the marketing campaign.
B.He is pleased with OVO Energy’s apology.
C.He is angry about the advice sent by OVO energy.
D.He suggests turning off the heating when people can’t afford it.
31.Where is this passage probably from
A.A website page. B.A science fiction C.A blog D.A newspaper
根据第一段“A British energy supplier has apologized for the “poorly judged and unhelpful” advice sent to customers which suggested they could snuggle(依偎) up to their pets and exercise to cut back on their heating bills. (一家英国供热企业为其向客户发出的“不当又无用的”建议道歉,建议包括让消费者宠物取暖或做运动来减少暖气开支)”可知,该能源供应商道歉的原因是因为该建议是不当又无用的,C选项中的“ineffective”呼应文中的“poorly judged and unhelpful”。故答案为C。
29.细节理解题。根据第五段“According to National Energy Action, more than 4 million UK households are facing fuel poverty—a figure which the charity believes could rise by 2 million in April when a cap(上限) on energy prices is expected to increase. (根据国家能源行动,超过400万英国家庭正面临燃料贫困——该慈善机构认为,当能源价格上限预计将提高时,这预计到四月份燃料贫困家庭还会再增加200万户)”可知,英国的能源危机导致冬季能源账单大幅上涨,很多英国家庭面临燃料贫困,所以D选项“对于大多数英国家庭来说,冬季能源账单上涨过快”贴合题意。故答案为D。
30.推理判断题。根据最后一段Darren Jones说的话“Good, I’m glad they apologized. I’m not sure who signed off a marketing campaign telling people to wear a jumper and eat porridge instead of turning on the heating if you can’t afford it. (很好,我很高兴他们道歉了。我不知道是谁批准了这个营销方案,让人们穿毛衣喝粥而不是打开你没钱支付的暖气)”可推测出,Darren Jones对本次道歉很高兴,所以选项B符合题意。故答案为B。
31.推理判断题。根据第一段“A British energy supplier has apologized for the “poorly judged and unhelpful” advice sent to customers which suggested they could snuggle(依偎) up to their pets and exercise to cut back on their heating bills. (一家英国供热企业为其向客户发出的“不当又无用的”建议道歉,建议包括让消费者宠物取暖或做运动来减少暖气开支)”可知这是一篇新闻报道,所以文章最可能来自于报纸。故答案为D。
D
(2022秋·浙江宁波·高一余姚中学校考期中)Jim suffered heart problems. In conversation he expressed little joy and it seemed that his life was drawing to a close.
When his heart problems led to operation,Jim went through it successfully, and a full recovery was expected.Within days, however, his heart was not beating properly.Jim was rushed back to operation, but nothing was found to explain the cause of his illness. He died on the operating table on the day before his 48th birthday.
Dr.Bruce Smoller,a psychologist(心理学家),had had many conversations with him,and the more he learned, the stranger he realized Jim’s case was. When Jim was a child, his father,a teacher, suffered a heart attack and stayed home to recover. One morning Jim asked his father to look over his homework, promising to come home from school at noon to pick it up.His father agreed, but when Jim returned his father had died.Jim’s father was 48.
“I think all his life Jim believed he killed his father,”Dr. Smoller says.“He felt that if he had not asked him to look at his homework, his father would have lived.Jim had been troubled by the idea. The operation was the trial(判决) he had expected for forty years.”Smoller believes that Jim willed himself not to live to the age of 48.
Jim’s case shows the powerful role that attitude(态度) plays in physical health, and that childhood experiences produce far-reaching effect on the health of grown-ups.Although most cases are less direct than Jim’s,studies show that childhood events, besides genes, may well cause such midlife diseases as cancer, heart disease and mental illness.
32.Jim was sent back to operation because______.
A.his heart didn’t work well.
B.he expected a full recovery.
C.his life was drawing to a close.
D.the first one wasn’t well performed.
33.What made Dr. Smoller feel strange about Jim’s case
A.Jim died at a young age.
B.Jim died on the operating table.
C.Both Jim and his father died of the same disease.
D.Jim’s death is closely connected with his father’s.
34.From Smoller’s words,we can infer that______.
A.Jim’s father cared little about his study.
B.Smoller agreed that Jim did kill his father.
C.Jim thought he would be punished some day.
D.Smoller believed Jim wouldn’t live to the age of 48.
35.Which of the following could have strong effect on one’s physical health according to the text
a.One’s genes. b.One’s life in childhood. c.One’s physical education. d.The date of one’s birthday. e.The opinions one has about something.
A.a,b,d B.a,b,e
C.a,c,e D.b,c,d
【答案】32.A 33.D 34.C 35.B
根据第二段“Within days, however, his heart was not beating properly. Jim was rushed back to operation”可知,手术后Jim的心脏跳动不正常,所以再次手术。 故选A项。
根据第四段“He felt that if he had not asked him to look at his homework, his father would have lived. Jim had been troubled by the idea. The operation was the trial(判决) he had expected for forty years.”Smoller believes that Jim willed himself not to live to the age of 48.”
根据第四段“Jim had been troubled by the idea. The operation was the trial he had expected for forty years.”
根据最后一段“Jim’s case shows the powerful role that attitude plays in physical health...studies show that childhood events, besides genes, may well cause such midlife diseases as cancer, heart disease and mental illness.”

Paragraph 2:
A few minutes later, she came out of the backroom with a brand-new coat.
___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
The next morning, I went to a nearby charity shop and a lady greeted me with a smile. I went through every coat and jacket but found nothing suitable. With a sinking heart I headed toward the exit, scratching my head over where I could get a coat in that size. At that precise moment, a salesgirl came up to me and asked gently whether there was something she could do for me. Feeling a glimmer of hope, I enquired whether she had anything in 2XL. Then I told her the story about the poor young man. Hearing what I said, she went to the back room without hesitation, her eyes gleaming with sympathy.
A few minutes later, she came out of the backroom with a brand-new coat. She walked toward me and said this coat was in 2XL. I was overjoyed and asked how much it was. However, to my surprise, she replied, “Just take it! This is a gift intended for my husband but now I think the young man needs it more than my husband.” I was greatly moved. In the end, I insisted on giving her 20 dollars as a token of my gratitude. I was a perfect stranger who had never seen the girl, but was treated with kindness. Warmth welled up inside me the moment I thought of it.
