Talk about what you think a good friend should be like in groups of four. First, read the example dialogue , and then make your dialogue about friends using the phrases in 1a .三、Listening

四、Reading

1.Let the students read the adjectives in 2a.Make sure they understand the meaning of each word.
2.Ask the students to write the comparative forms of the adjectives. Then ask them to write five sentences using the adjectives.
3.Show these new words on the screen or write them on the board and teach the new words. Ask the students to repeat them.
4.Make the students scan the three articles first. Pay attention to the new words and phrases on the screen.

1.Make the students read 2b again. Then let them judge if the eight statements in 2c are true or false.
2. Check the answers.

As long as意为“只要”,可引导条件状语从句,主句是一般将来时或主句谓语含有情态动词can时,as long as引导的条件状语从句应用一般现在时表示将来
例 : As long as the weather is fine tomorrow , we'll go hiking.
只要明天天气好,我们就去徒步旅行。
2. That's why …
why引导的从句在此作is的表语,是表语从句。引导表语从句的词除了why外,还有that; whether; as if; what; which; who; whose; when; where; how等。表语从句与宾语从句一样,要求用陈述语序。例如:
That is where I was born. 那就是我出生的地方。
The problem is whether he will come. 问题是他是否回来。
This is what we need. 这就是我们所需要的。
【注意】That’s why…可视以为一个固定句式,表示“这便是为什么……”、“这就是……的原因”,why的后面一般接句子。例如:
That’s why he was late this morning.
这就是他今天早上迟到的原因。

此句中if 作连词,意为“是否”,引导的是宾语从句,作 care 的宾语
由if/whether引导的宾语从句,实际上是由一般疑问句演变而来的。
宾语从句要用陈述语序一般说来,在宾语从句中if 与whether 可以互换使用,但在动词不定式前只能用whether,不用if.
例 :Iwonder if/whether they will come to our party.
我想知道他们是否会来参加我们的聚会
4. I think a good friend makes me laugh.
make 在此处是使役动词,后接省略to的动词不定式,make sb. do sth.意为“使/让某人做某事”,类似的动词还有let,have等。例如:
The boss made them work for long time. 老板让他们长时间工作。
They made us forget the past. 他们使我们忘记了过去。
【拓展】
make作“使……”讲时,还可用make+ 宾语 + 形容词/名词(作宾补),即make sb. / sth. +adj./n.。类似的词还有keep等。例如:
What he said makes us happy. 他所说的话使我们很高兴。
Don't keep the door open. 别把门开着。
We made John our monitor. 我们选约翰当班长。

【写作话题】
本单元的话题是谈论人物个性特征,写作题目往往与描写人物个性特征有关。写此类短文时要抓住所比较的人物特点,从外貌特tall,short,thin,heavy,long/short
hair 等)或个性特点(如outgoing,funny,friendly,hard-working,smart等)方面
来描述。
【写作技巧】
(1)若要进行人物个性特征的比较,则要写出他们的相同点和不同点,并能够正确使用比较级进行比较,语言要精练准确,行文要流畅
(2)常用短语:more...than...;both...and...;as+形容词/副词原级+as ;be similar
to ;be different from 等
(3)常用句型:
1.They both...

3.A is smarter/more outgoing/...than B.
4.A is as friendly/hard-working/...as B

(1)写作指导:阅读表格中的描述;分析描述词的特点;是用形容词还是用动词进行描述;根据在导入总结的句式结构来对学生们进行描述。相似的地方,可以用both来共同表达出来;不同的地方,可以用比较的句式表达出来。

Think of your friends. Make notes about two of your friends. One friend should be similar to you. The other friend should be different. Then use some words to make sentences. Check the answers with each other.

Let students write a report about their good and bad habits and say how often they do things,using the report in 3a as an example.
