<1> There is a refrigerator in the kitchen. 厨房里有个电冰箱。
The refrigerator is white. 冰箱是白色的。
这两个句子中都出现了refrigerator，但分别用了两种不同的冠词：a（不定冠词）和the（定冠词）。
第1次提到某物时用不定冠词a/an; 第2次提到时就不再是泛指任何一个，而是特指所指的那个了，因此要用定冠词the。如：
There is a man over there. The man is tall and fat.
那边有个男人。这个男人又高又胖。
定冠词the不论指人还是指物、单数还是复数，其形式都不变。如：
The man attacked him with a knife. 那个男人持刀向他行凶。
The books are grouped together by subject. 这些书按科目分类。
<2> It is on the right. 它位于房间右侧。
on the right 意为“在右边”，是介词短语，在句中作表语。
The post office is on the right. 邮局在右边。
反义短语：on the left 在左边
In Britain cars drive on the left. 在英国，汽车靠左行驶。
<3> There is an electric cooker in the kitchen. 厨房里有个电灶。
there be结构用来说明人或物的存在，在汉语中意为“有”。其中be动词的形式由be动词后面的名词决定：如果后面名词是单数或不可数，用is；如果后面是复数名词则用are。electric cooker是单数名词，所以be动词用is。
electric cooker 意为“电灶”，其首音是元音[ ]，所以前面用不定冠词an。
友情提示：cooker是“炊具;厨灶”，不是“厨师”，“厨师”在英语中是cook。
<4> There is a table in the middle of the room. 房间的中央有一张桌子。
in the middle of ...是固定的词组，意为“在......中间”，of表示所属关系。
He is all alone in the middle of the hall. 他独自一人在大厅中间。
table和desk的区别：
table:一般指平面的，通常有抽屉的桌子，如餐桌、游戏桌等。如：
There are three plates on the table. 桌子上有三只盘子。
desk：主要指供学习、办公用的书桌或写字台，一般都带有抽屉，也可指商店柜台或服务台。
The book lay open on his desk. 那本书摊开放在他的书桌上。
A map is available at the front desk. 前台有地图可供索取。

冠词分为定冠词和不定冠词，在前面的课中我们已经学习了不定冠词a和an, 这里我们再一起来学习下定冠词the的用法吧！

<1> where用来询问地点, 对where疑问句的回答可以是整句、短语或单个的词。如：

冰箱的发明来自于一群人的智慧。1834年，美国人雅可比·帕金斯发现了某些液体蒸发可以产生冷却的效应，这一发现为冰箱的发明埋下了伏笔。在接下来的近80年里，冰箱的雏形日渐形成。后来到1923年，当弗雷基代尔还是美国通用汽车公司的分厂的时候，它引进了一种新的机械冰箱组件，并组装成电冰箱。弗雷基代尔电冰箱的设计是把储存易腐烂食品的“冰盒”和制冷机械部分装进一个特制的柜子。这种装置安静、方便，且结构紧凑。至此，一种新的冰箱式样诞生了。
