? Making a film takes a long time and is very hard work. Writing the story for the film may take many weeks. Shooting the film often takes at least six months. He decides how the scenes should be filmed and how the actors should act.

Children have their own rules in playing games. They seldom need a referee (裁判) and rarely trouble to keep scores. They don’t care much about who win or lose, and it doesn’t seem to worry them if the game is not finished. Yet, they like games that depend a lot on luck, so that their personal abilities cannot be directly compared. They also enjoy games that move in stages, in which each stage, the choosing of leaders, the picking-up of sides, or the determining of which side shall start, is almost a game in itself.
Grown-ups can hardly find children’s games exciting, and they often feel puzzled at why their kids play such simple games again and again. However, it is found that a child plays games for very important reasons. He can be a good player without having to think whether he is a popular person, and he can find himself being a useful partner to someone of whom he is ordinarily afraid. He becomes a leader when it comes to his turn. He can be confident, too,in particular games, that it is his place to give orders, to pretend to be dead, to throw a ball actually at someone, or to kiss someone he has caught.
It appears to us that when children play a game they imagine a situation under their control. Everyone knows the rules, and more importantly, everyone plays according to the rules. Those rules may be childish, but they make sure that every child has a chance to win.
25. To become a leader in a game, the child has to_______.
A. play well B. wait for his turn
C. be confidence in himself D. be popular among his playmates

A. Because he can be someone other than himself.
B. Because he can become popular among friends.
C. Because he finds he is always lucky in games.
D. Because he likes the place where he plays a game.
28. The writer believes that _________.
A.?children should make better rules for their game
B.?children should invite grown-ups to play with them
C.?children’s games can do them a lot of good
D.?children play games without reason

Paula Radcliffe, chasing a third London marathon title(冠军), says she has become a stranger person after her terrible experience at the 2004 Athens Games.
Radcliffe, who failed to complete the Olympic marathon and the 10,000m last August , said: “Athens made me a stranger person and it made me careless about criticism(批评).”
“In the past I wanted to please everyone , but now I am going to listen even more to the people around me.”
She didn’t care about criticism made at the weekend by Liz MoColgan should have rested and let her body recover after her failing in Athens.
“Liz is someone I look up to but she hasn’t spoken to me since last year and if she really cared for me, I’m sure she would have contacted me.”
Instead Liz Radcliffe won the New York City marathon just 11 weeks after Athens.
“In New York I wasn’t in my best state but I did know I was good enough to win the race.”
Radcliffe insisted her only goal in Sunday’s race would be winning a third title and not chasing world records.
However, Radcliffe has not ruled out (排除) in the future chasing her “final” world record time and questioned saying that marathon runners have the ability in their career to produce only four or five world-class times.
“I don’t think that—although I can’t put a number on it.” said Radcliffe . “That changes from person to person.”
Radcliffe is sure she can be better her winning London 2003 performance at some point in the future. Following a successful three-month training period in the United States , the 31-year-old will chase a third title on Sunday after her first victory in 2002 and again 12 months later.
Radcliffe clocked a time of 2:18:56 in her first 42.2-kilometer race three years ago.
Afterwards she set a “mixed course” mark of 2:17:18 five months later in Chicago before lowering that to a time of 2:15:25 in the 2003 London event.

The fourth-grades at Chicago’s McCormick Primary School at unaware of the difficulty in learning Chinese. For most, who speak Spanish at home, it’s becoming their third language. They’ve been hearing and using Chinese words since kindergarten, and it’s now second nature to give a hearty“ni hao” when strangers enter the classroom.
The classroom scene at McCormick is unusual, but it may soon be a common fixture in American schools, where Chinese is rapidly becoming the hot new language. Government officials have long wanted more focus on security—useful languages like Chinese, and pressure from them ,as well as from business leader, politicians, and parents, has driven a quick growth in the number of programs.
Chicago itself is home to the largest effort to include Chinese in US public schools. The program here has grown to include 3,000 students in 20 schools, with more schools on a waiting list. Programs have also spread to places like Houston, Los Angeles, New York City, and North Carolina. It’s true that the number of students learning Chinese is tiny compared with how many study Spanish or French.
Advocates (提倡者) see knowledge of the Chinese language and culture as a help in a global economy where is China is growing in importance. This is an interesting way to begin to engage with the world’s next superpower,” says Michael Levine, director of education at the Asia Society , which has started five new public high schools that offer Chinese .”Globalization has already changed the arrangements in terms of how children today are going to need to think about their career. The question is when, not whether, the schools are going to adjust.”
In Chicago, the trend extends beyond schools with high numbers of Asian students.“the fact that my students are 98% low-income and 99% Latino, and they are succeeding in this, tells me everyone should have a try at learning languages,”says Virginia Rivera, principal at McCormick.
“We want to give our young people opportunities to advance…and Chinese is a great opportunity to survive in today’s economy,” says Richard Mr. Daley , Mayor of Chicago.
32. The first paragraph is mainly written to______.
A.?show the importance of Chinese
B. introduce the topic to be followed
C. advise primary schools to teach Chinese
D. prove it’s easy for children to learn language
33. In the second last paragraph, the underlined word“this”probably refers to____
A.?the competition between Latino and Asian students
B.?the global economy
C. the interesting way engage with China
D. the Chinese learning
34. What can NOT be learned from this text?
A.?Most students at McCormick can speak three languages.
B.?Chinese is gaining its popularity in most schools in Chicago.
C.?French has far more speakers than Chinese does in Chicago
D.?Globalization in a way makes it necessary to learn Chinese.
35. Which of the following is the best title for this passage?
A.?The Chinese learning in Chicago B. The ways to learn Chinese

第二节 书面表达
One possible version:
Dear editor,
I’m Li Ming of Senior Two. I’m writing to tell you about some symptoms of anxiety among us students before exams.
Most of us feel nervous whenever we’re taking an important exam. Some will feel weak, some will suffer from lack of sleep, and others will lose their appetite. In fact, all these symptoms have bad impacts on our exams and we are all eager to get rid of them.
As more and more students are in poor health, I’d like to offer some advice. First of all, it’s important for us to have a positive attitude towards exams. They are only a means of checking how we are getting on with our studies, so there is no need to worry too much about the results. Study hard every day and make careful plans for every exam. Besides, enough sleep can make us energetic and enable us to perform well in an exam. Therefore, during the period of exams, we should not stay up too late. We can also try a warm bath or a cup of warm milk before going to bed, which might help us to have a sound sleep.
All in all, students should get well-prepared before the exams to deal with the test anxiety.
Yours,
Li Ming
