Friday 2023/06/17
Johnathon, 14, Grade Eight of Thomas Science and Technology Academy:I’d like to make some suggestions about our school uniform. In the school, we students have to wear uniforms every day. But the dark red and gray sportswear looks dark and old. It can’t stand for young and active spirit. We can add some white or orange colors and make a new type of uniform. I hope our headmaster will think about my idea. Frank, 15, Grade Nine of Mill Hill School:I’d like to say thank you to my headmaster. The Internet has changed our habits, including our habits of sending greeting cards. There are many e-card websites that make it so easy to find the right greeting cards. They have greatly changed the way we send greetings to each other.
Our lives have become so busy that we have limited personal time. These e-card websites have allowed everyone to e 81 share their feelings and emotions with the people they love. They contain plenty of greeting cards that can be used immediately. The users can choose any card they like, from festival greetings to birthday w 82 . In fact, e-cards are perfect for any event. That’s why more and more people like to send e-cards. If the users are i 83 in making their own greeting cards on the Internet, they can create a card within only a few minutes.
A 84 benefit of e-card websites is that they have made it possible for you to send top quality cards to your beloved ones and surprise them with cheerful greetings. They allow you to send your greetings on a specific date. So you can plan for the occasion when you want to send the card. For example, you can send your e-card on a certain day and then visit the person with some flowers the next day. This will surely create a good impression o 85 the person you love.
We have never forgotten the importance of saying sorry to our beloved ones. But sometimes we fail to do b 86 we are not brave enough to face those we hurt. Some e-cards on these websites allow us to

Eric was standing in front of a large grey house in the countryside. He had just been dropped off by his mum, who left after telling him that he was going to spend the next twelve days there with no TV, no mobile phone and — worse of all — no computer.
Suddenly, a man appeared at the entrance of the house. When he saw Eric, he went up to him immediately. ‘You must be Eric. Welcome to the camp,’ said the man confidently. ‘I’m Tony, the camp leader, but you will call me “Sir”. Now tell me why you’re here.’
Eric quickly replied, ‘My mum made me come!’ When Tony looked at him angrily and did not say anything, Eric realized his mistake and added, ‘Sir!’
‘And do you know why your mother sent you here ’ asked Tony.
‘She thinks I spend too much time online. Sir,’ answered Eric. ‘It’s not just her opinion — it’s the truth! Look at you — pale, unfit, and definitely not getting enough sleep. You’re here because you think the virtual world is much better than the real world. But you’re wrong! The real world has much more to offer. At the camp, you’re going to go hiking, rowing, rock-climbing and stay outdoors most of the time,’ promised Tony.
Eric’s heart sank.
‘But it’s not going to be all fun and games,’ Tony continued. ‘We have rules here. If you break them, you’ll get punished. But you won’t simply get detention (课后留校), and you can forget about suspension (停学) — you’ll never be sent home early! Instead, you’ll clean the toilets, wash the dishes or do an extra hour of exercise!’
‘Oh Mum,’ sighed Eric. ‘What have you got me into ’

When Carnegie first entered college, he felt hopeless because of his poor clothes and ordinary look. His mother encouraged him, "Why not try to be better in other things "Carnegie tried to be more active in college. He joined the speech contest. But one after another, lost 12 times. The young man was very disappointed in himself. He said later that he thought of killing himself after so many failures, But soon Carnegie was seen practising public speaking on the riverside. His hard work paid off at last. In 1906, Carnegie won a famous speech contest and became widely known.
The young man made his own words come true: "Believe that you will succeed, and you will.” In order to share his success, Carnegie opened schools and wrote books. His best-sellers include How to Win Friends Influence People and How to Stop Worrying and Start Living. More than 50 million copies of his books have been printed in 38 languages. The Eskimos came after the Native Americans did. They have also been in Canada for a long time. Most Eskimos live in the north of Canada, where it is very cold.
The European settlers started arriving 450 years ago. Most came from France. They are a large group in Canada today. They follow French customs and ways of doing things. They speak French.
Later, most settlers from England and Scotland came to Canada. They spoke English. Today more than half of all Canadians speak English.
There are also Canadians coming from Germany and Italy. There are smaller groups from other places, too.
