过去进行时的作用及构成：
过去进行时表示过去某一时刻或某段时间内进行
或发生的动作。
构成：
was / were + v.-ing（现在分词）
I was doing my homework at this time yesterday.
昨天这个时候我正在做作业。
He lost his key when he was playing basketball.
他在打篮球的时候，弄丢了钥匙。
过去进行时句式：
肯定句：主语 + was / were + v.-ing + 其他
I wasn’t reading when you knocked on the door.
你敲门的时候我没有在看书。
She was not sleeping when her husband entered the room.
她丈夫进房间的时候，她没有在睡觉。
否定句：主语 + was / were not + v.-ing + 其他
-Were you having dinner when they came

一般疑问句：
-Was / Were + 主语 + v.-ing + 其他

过去进行时的主要用法：
① 表示在过去某一时刻正在发生的动作
I was having lunch at 12:30 yesterday afternoon.
昨天下午12:30我正在吃午饭。
② 表示在过去一段时间内正在进行的动作
We were waiting for you the whole morning.
我们整个上午都在等你。
③ 表示一个动作正在进行的同时，另一个动作也在进行
