Some experts feel that the automobile is to “die”. They see a day in the nottoodistant future when all autos will be abandoned and allowed to become rotten iron and steel rubbish. __1__ They think that the car will remain a leading means of urban travel in the near future.
__2__ It should become smaller, safer, and more moneysaving, and should not be powered by the petrol engine. The car of the future should be far more pollutionfree than present types.
Regardless of its power source, the auto in the future will still be the main problem in urban traffic jam. __3__
When the auto enters the freeway system, a retractable arm, which can be moved inwards or backwards, will drop from the auto and touch a rail that is similar to the subway trains electrically powered from the system, and control of the vehicle will pass to a central computer. __4__
The driver will use a telephone to dial instructions about his destination into the system. The computer will calculate the best route, and reserve space for the car all the way to the correct exit from the freeway. __5__ It is guessed that an automated freeway will be able to handle 10,000 vehicles per hour, compared with the 1,500 to 2,000 vehicles that can be carried by a presentday freeway.
A.Other authorities, however, think the auto is here to stay.
B.The computer will then monitor all of the car's movements.
C.One proposed solution to this problem is the automated freeway system.
D.Experts have different views on what role autos will play in the near future.
E.The motorcar will undoubtedly change significantly over the next 30 years.
F.Drivers in the freeway system can sit back and do nothing but control the direction.
G.The driver will then be free to relax and wait for the sound speaker that will warn him of his coming exit.
1.______ 2.______ 3.______ 4.______ 5.______
1.A 首先根据文章开头的“Some experts...”可知与A项的“Other authorities”构成some...others的结构;其次,根据后文说到“...remain a leading means of urban travel”可知,本句和前面说的“汽车消失”形成对比。故选A项。
2.E 根据空后的“It should become smaller, safer, and more moneysaving, and should not be powered by the petrol engine.”
3.C 根据空前的“the main problem”及后文的“the freeway system”可知C项起到了承上启下的作用。
4.B 根据空前的“control of the vehicle will pass to a central computer”可知选B项。
B
Do you have trouble getting started in the morning? Do you have problems learning early in the day? If you do, you are not alone, __1__ They learn better at night than they do in the morning.
To investigate when cockroaches(蟑螂) learn best, researchers at Vanderbill University tested the insects for which odor(peppermint 薄荷 or vanilla 香草) they preferred. Most cockroaches preferred the smell of vanilla to that of peppermint at all times. __2__ Therefore, the scientists trained the cockroaches to prefer the peppermint smell by rewarding the insects with a taste of sugar water when they approached a peppermint smell. __3__
When the cockroaches were trained at night, they remembered the new associations(peppermint=sugar water; vanilla=salt water) for up to 48 hours. However, if the cockroaches were trained in the morning, they quickly forgot which smell went with which water. __4__
So, cockroaches learn better at night than they do in the morning. __5__ Because of this, it is likely that information they gather at night will be more useful to them. These experiments provide some clues about the interactions between body rhythms, learning and memory.
A.When these insects moved toward a vanilla smell, on the other hand, they were punished with a taste of salt.
B.This result thus shows that the time when they were trained decided the effect of their learning.
C.They are often more active and tend to search for food during the night.
D.They were also found to like sugar water, but not salt water.
E.Cockroaches have the same problem!
F.But they prefer warm conditions found within buildings.
G.Pest species adapt easily to their environment.
1.______ 2.______ 3.______ 4.______ 5.______
2.D 根据下文中“with a taste of sugar water...”
故选A项。

When we had our class, our psychology teacher would take any liquid medicine from a tiny bottle. This touched the whole classes. We thought that he should ask for leave and stayed at home for a rest, so he came to each class on time. Therefore, all of us studied psychology hard than we did any other subject. In the end of that term, we told him that how much we appreciated him. We were so worrying about her health that we asked him what disease he got and what medicine he took. With satisfied smile, he said, “I'm quite all right and it's a bottle of tea.”
1.第一句中的any→some 本句是肯定句,所以用some。
In→At at the end of“在……的结尾、末期”;in the end“最后”。
7.第五句中的第二个that去掉 told后面是“how much...”
8.第六句中的worrying→worried be worried about“为……担心”,为固定搭配。
9.第六句中的her→his 根据后文的“him”可知用his。
