When I was three years old, I couldn’t speak. It was a strange reality that none of the doctors I visited could understand.
One day, I was shadowing (尾随) my mother. She found herself looking in a mirror, and through it our eyes met. She began to speak to me through the reflection, and I slowly began to mimic (模仿) her mouth’s movements until I formed a word.
It turned out that I’m deaf in my left ear, and have a slight problem in my right. Being hard of hearing has been difficult, but I’ve never lived in a state of self hating sorrow. Imagine being able to shut out all sound as you lay your head down to sleep by simply rolling over onto one side. That’s my reality when I sleep on my “good ear”, and it makes me feel like a superhero sometimes.
People call my deaf side my “bad ear”, but when I wear my hearing aid, I have access to a range of features that some other deaf people don’t. In cinemas, for example, with one click of a button I can enjoy a whole film as though it were whispered to me from the mouths of the actors.
Owning a hearing aid hasn’t always felt good, however. On the first day I got my aid, when I was eight, I took it to school for show and tell. As I explained how it worked to my classmates, a boy yelled out, “Aren’t those for old men?” At that moment, I felt different. It took a long time for me to get over that sense of being so unlike my peers.
But it’s not just schoolkids who can make us deaf and hard of hearing people feel like burdens. Every video on social media that lacks subtitles (字幕), for example, means an entire community of deaf people is unable to enjoy pletely deaf people are excluded from enjoying many movies too, as subtitles in cinemas are almost impossible to find.
And with hearing aids costing around $2, 500 each, it can be hard for many people to afford to be able to listen to things that others take for granted. As for me, I can listen to music, enjoy films, and catch conversations—I’m lucky. I’m deaf, but I can still hear everything. I’ve been blessed with wonderful life experiences, and I am human. And when it comes to sleeping, I’m even superhuman.
24.How does the author view his hearing difficulty
A.It’s a disaster and causes him a lot of trouble.
B.It gave him a chance to experience something special.
C.It made him feel embarrassed in front of his classmates.
D.It helped him to live in his own world without being interrupted.
25.What can be inferred from the passage about the author
A.He was born deaf. B.He is optimistic and helpful.
C.His family and classmates have supported him a lot.
D.The hearing aid brings much convenience to his daily life.
26.What is the author’s attitude towards his life
A.Grateful. B.Anxious. C.Excited. D.Disappointed.
27.What is the author’s main purpose in writing the passage
A.To give advice on life to disabled people.
B.To show how difficult life is for disabled people.
C.To share his experience of treating a disadvantage with gratitude.
D.To show the convenience a hearing aid could bring.

Do you want to live a happier, less stressful life Try laughing for no reason at all. That's how thousands of people start their day at Laughter Clubs around the world-and many doctors now think that having a good laugh might be one of the best ways to stay healthy.
The first Laughter Club was started in Mumbai, India, in 1995 by Dr Madan Kataria.“Young children laugh about 300 times a day. Adults laugh between 7 and 15 times a day," says Dr Kataria. "Everyone's naturally good at laughing-it's the universal language. We want people to feel happy with their lives." There are now more than 500 Laughter Clubs in India and over 1,300 worldwide.
Many doctors are also interested in the effects of laughter on our health.According to a 5-year study at the UCLA School of Medicine in California, with laughing there is less stress in the body. Laughter improves our health against illness by about 40%.
So, what happens at a Laughter Club I went along to my nearest club in South London to find out. I was quite nervous at the beginning of the class, to be honest-I wasn't interested in laughing with a group of strangers, and I was worried about looking stupid. Our laughter teacher told us to clap our hands and say “ho ho ho, ha ha ha," while looking at each other. However, our bodies can't tell the difference between fake laughter and real laughter, so they still produce the same healthy effects.
Surprisingly, it works! After ten minutes everybody in the room was laughing for real-and some people just couldn't stop! At the end of the class I was surprised by how relaxed and comfortable I felt. So if you're under stress, then start laughing. You might be very pleased with the results!
28. In which country was the first Laughter Club started
A.Britain. B.America. C.Australia. D.India.
29. How did the writer feel at the beginning of the class
A. Surprised. B.Pleased. C.Nervous. D.Stressful.
30. When did the people in the club begin to laugh for real
A.After a few minutes. B.After a few hours.
C.After a few seconds. D.After a few days.
31. Which of the following is TRUE according to the passage
A.Fake laughter and real laughter are both good for health.
B.40% of the people in Laughter Clubs are good friends.
C.Adults laugh more often than children in a day.
D.D.Laughing is the best way to prevent illness.
D
Running is often tiring and a lot of hard work, but nothing beats the feeling you get after finishing a long workout around the track.
But while it’s long been believed that endorphins (内啡肽)—chemicals in the body that cause happiness—are behind the so called “runner’s high”, a study suggested that there may be more to this phenomenon than we previously knew.
According to a recent study published by a group of scientists from several German universities, a group of chemicals called endocannabinoids(内源性大麻素) may actually be responsible for this familiar great feeling.
To test this theory, the scientists turned to mice.
Both mice and humans release high levels of endorphins and endocannabinoids after exercise, along with many other chemicals. After exercising on running wheels, the mice seemed happy and relaxed and displayed no signs of anxiety.
But after being given a drug to block their endorphins they changed. However, when their endocannabinoids were blocked with a different drug, the runner’s high symptoms seemed to fade.
“The long held notion of endorphins being responsible for the runner’s high is false. Endorphins are effective pain relievers, but only when it comes to the pain in your body and muscles you feel after working out,” Patrick Lucas Austin wrote on a science blog.
Similar studies are yet to be carried out on humans, but it’s already well known that exercise is a highly effective way to get rid of stress or anxiety.
The UK’s National Health Service even prescribes(开药方) exercise for patients who are suffering from depression.
“Being depressed can leave you feeling low in energy, which might put you off being more active. Regular exercise can boost your mood if you have depression, and it’s especially useful for people with mild to moderate(中等的) depression,” it wrote on its website.
It seems like nothing can beat that feeling we get after a good workout, even if we don’t fully understand where it comes from. At least if we’re feeling down, we know that all we have to do is put on our running shoes.
32.What did scientists from German universities recently discover
A.Working out is a highly effective way to treat depression.
B.The runner’s high could be caused by endocannabinoids.
C.Endorphins may contribute to one’s high spirits after running.
D.The level of endorphins and endocannabinoids could affect one’s mood.
33.The scientists gave mice drugs in their experiment to ________.
A. find what reduces the runner’s high symptoms
B. see the specific symptoms of the runner’s high
C. identify what is responsible for the runner’s high
D .test what influences the level of endocannabinoids released
34.The underlined word “notion” in Paragraph 7 has the closest meaning to “________”.
A .effect B .goal C .question D .belief
35.According to the UK’s National Health Service, regular workouts ________.
A. are the best way to treat depression
B. can help ease depression symptoms
C. only work for those with serious depression
D. can help people completely recover from depression

What made Mrs. Klein surprised was Dan’s picture. Dan was so shy and likely to be found away from the others as they went outside for games. His drawing was simply this:
A hand, obviously, but whose hand The class was attracted by his picture. “I think it must be the hand of his mum or dad that brings him food, ” said one student.
“It looks more like a policeman, and they protect us. ” “I think, ” said a girl, who was always so serious, “that it is supposed to be all the hands that help us, but Dan could only draw one of them. ”

She bent over his desk and asked, “My dear, could you please tell me whose hand it was ” Immediately, a low voice answered her: “It’s your hands, Teacher.” Feeling surprised and moved, Mrs. Klein remembered that she send Dan to bus stop everyday, holding his hand tightly. To my delight, I got the belief of Dan. Being a teacher means I can help students by caring them. Now we need to be at the ferry building in time to catch the boat at 10:00 am but I think we should aim to be there by 9:45. It's a 15 minute walk from the hotel. You won't need to bring any money for food because a packed lunch is provided. The boat fare is also included. It should be sunny tomorrow, but it can get windy on the boat. So a jacket is necessary. It takes about 25 minutes to get to Sausalito. We'll spend about an hour in Sausalito where we'll do some shopping. From Sausalito we will get a bus across the Golden Gate Bridge to the Golden Gate park. Here you'll have a choice of activities. Firstly, the museum, best thing here is the painting collection or you can go to the Japanese tea garden. This is the oldest Japanese garden in the United States. It first opened in 1894 as part of an international exhibition. Anyway, you'll have about an hour to visit either of these two places before we break for lunch, our first stop after lunch will be at Alamo square.
