When I was a girl growing up, I cannot once ever remember either my mum or my grandma wasting(浪费)food.
Anything we didn't eat at one meal was leftovers. I can remember my grandma making a large pot of potatoes. We would all eat until we were full enough, but there were always about half of the potatoes left over. A few days later, Grandma would take those potatoes out, cook some noodles, add some vegetables and mix them all together. And I also remember I watched my mum cook meat for us in the mornings. She would always take the oil carefully and pour it into a container. Then she would use the oil later to add taste to many other dishes. Before I grew up, I never knew potatoes didn't taste like meat at all.
I learned their lessons well, and after I grew up, I tried not to waste food myself. I always planned the next week's meals and only bought the things on the plan so that nothing went to waste.
Every meal went into our mouths, and either my family or my dogs ate any leftover later. To me, throwing food was just a terrible thing.
However, when it comes to life, there are no leftovers. Life is just like a feast. Each day is a fresh beginning. Live each minute of your life to the fullest.

Ever wonder why you can go over a book again and again and still be lost when tested on what you have read It may be because you haven't practised remembering.
Remembering is a useful way to help us learn. Some of us remember best by listening, some by re-reading and others learn best by using pictures and diagrams(图表). Schools try many of these different ways to help students "download" new information.
But a recent study from Purdue University, the USA, says that successful learning means being able to recall information at any moment.
"Our view is that learning is not about studying or getting knowledge ‘in memory’," said Jeffrey Karpicke, lead researcher."Learning is about retrieving(寻回). So it is important to make retrieval practice an important part of the learning process."
The research studied two groups of students. Both groups learned something from a text. One group made diagrams about the text. This method(方法)is called concept mapping. The other group put the text away after learning it and tried recalling the concepts from memory.
Then, both groups were tested(被测试)on the information they had learned. Both groups scored well at recalling the learned information. However, when they were asked to return one week later, the group who made diagrams scored better than the group who did not use concept mapping. So by drawing concept maps, we are able to recall information far better, which will help us to study.
Our minds, just like our bodies, have to practise activities to become good at them.
