【七选五练】
Here are some top tips for world travellers.
Travel light. 1 It's no fun carrying a huge bag around a foreign city. Don't take too many clothes and avoid heavy books and electrical equipment.
2 Always keep your passport on you in an inside pocket or a special travel belt. There may be thieves about. It's a good idea to make a photocopy(复印件) of your passport and travel documents.
Transport sense. Don't let go of your bags on the train. 3 There are always thieves on public transport. If you want to sleep, tie your bag to your arm. When you take a taxi, it's a good idea to ask for the driver's permit. Many foreigners pay too much money because they take unofficial taxis.
Keep clean. It's a good idea to wear dark clothes because they hide the dirt while white clothes attract it! Make sure you have plenty of clean underclothes and deodorant(除臭剂). 4
5 You should always be polite and respectful to the locals. Even if you find their habits and behavior a bit strange, you shouldn't show your feelings. Remember, you're their guest.
A.Be polite.
B.Keep your documents safe.
C.You should carry a spare bag.
D.You don't want to smell bad!
E.Keep them with you at all times.
F.Make sure your bag isn't too heavy.
G.It's a good idea to wear clothes similar to the local people.

The biggest challenge faced by travelers, especially those who like to have a backpacking trip is how to ensure a steady supply of clean clothes. Now, thanks to a great invention called Scrubba Wash Pack, that worry may be a thing of the past.
The portable washing machine was invented by Ash Newland in 2010, while he was planning to climb Mt. Kilimanjaro. Struck by the limited packing space, he got inspiration from traditional washboards to create a bag that could be used to clean clothes. Then he quitted his career as a lawyer and focused on perfecting the bag's design. By 2012, the bag was ready for the public. It weighed only 180 grams and required very little storage space, making it perfect for anyone wishing to travel light.
Not surprisingly, the bag which was worth 55 dollars was an instant hit with travelers, university students and even passengers. However, Newland was not satisfied. He still saw a disadvantage with his invention—dirty clothes had to be carried around in a separate bag! The recently introduced Scrubba Wash Pack solves that problem.
In order to make the pack active, dirty clothes are placed inside the bag along with two or three liters of water. The bag is then shut tightly to ensure all air is squeezed out and the clothes are massaged (按摩揉洗)for a few minutes. After a quick wash, they are clean and ready to be dried. According to Newland, the pack can clean anything from jeans to smelly socks! What's even more amazing is that with a capacity to hold 13 liters of water, it can be used to wash more clothes at a time.
The best part is that the 99-dollar pack that will be available for sale later this year, only weighs 300 grams and is completely foldable, making it easy to store when it's not in use. With the Scrubba Wash Pack, wandering through foreign cities searching for a washing shop, or paying for washing machines may soon be a thing of the past!
1.What led Ash Newland to create the Scrubba Wash Pack
A.His job requirements.
B.His career as a lawyer.
C.His interest in invention.
D.His personal experience.
2.Why wasn't Ash Newland satisfied with his former invention
A.Clothes couldn't be washed well.
B.The invention was not so convenient.
C.The bag was not beautiful and fashionable.
D.The cost of the invention was very high.
3.It can be inferred that the improved Scrubba Wash Pack .
A.turns to be not environmentally friendlier
B.will replace the traditional washing machines
C.will be widely used by more travelers in the future
D.can encourage all people to travel a long distance

Travel is one of the most exciting experiences a human being can have. Imagine how Italian traveller Marco Polo felt when he found himself on Chinese soil, seeing a way of life quite different from anything he'd seen before.
And how great must it have been to listen to Zhang Qian when he returned to China from his journey through Central Asia and West Asia His brain must have been packed with everything he'd seen and heard, leading to the founding of the Silk Road.
Some people have travelled all over the world, and travel is a way of life to them. They perhaps know what to expect before they travel. That's why the best travel is when it's for the first time. Imagine a person who has always wanted to travel to the United States. Of course, he's probably seen the Statue of Liberty a thousand times on TV, and the White House, and all the other famous sights. But none of that would compare with the thrill of looking out of the cabin window as the plane lands, watching the cities and streets of the real America come into view.
Although travel is often just for recreation, it's also educational. We may not know that we are getting an education, but we still are.
We're learning every day: new words in a new language, new people, and new ways of life. But this learning takes place in the school of the world, not the classroom. One of the lessons we learn is undoubtedly a moral one. As we get to know foreign places, we come to understand that there are many different ways to live, and that the way we live isn't necessarily the best way. The British politician Benjamin Disraeli summed this up well when he said, “Travel teaches toleration.”
4.The writer uses Marco Polo and Zhang Qian as examples to .
A.explain how the Silk Road was founded
B.present travel as an amazing experience
C.show how the way people travel has changed
D.describe important cultural exchanges in history
5.The underlined word in Paragraph 4 probably means .
A.learning B.knowledge
C.fun D.risk
6.According to the last two paragraphs, the writer believes that .
A.traveling should be included in formal education
B.traveling improves people's confidence in their lifestyle
C.a foreign journey may raise people's cultural understanding
D.there is more to learn from adventures than being in classrooms

The government in Tibet has denied the permanent(永久的) closure of Mount Qomolangma National Nature Reserve.
The announcement came after a report went viral online claiming the base camp of the world's highest mountain was “permanently closed due to heavy pollution” and caused a universal misunderstanding.
Mount Qomolangma National Nature Reserve was set up in 1988. Covering an area of more than 33,819 square kilometers, it is home to one of the world's weakest ecosystems(生态系统).
Kelsang, the deputy director of the Reserve Administration, said ordinary tourists were allowed to visit areas around Rongpo Monastery, almost 5,000 meters above sea level. As for travelers who have a climbing permit, they can go to the base camp at an altitude of 5,200 meters. The mountaineering activities have been permitted by the regional forestry department.
To conserve the environment surrounding Mount Qomolangma, China carried out three major clean-ups at an altitude of 5,200 meters and above last spring, collecting eight tonnes of household wastes, human wastes and mountaineering trash. This year, the clean-up will continue, and the remains of mountaineering victims(受害者) above 8,000 meters will be centrally dealt with for the first time. Meanwhile, the number of people who stay at the base camp will be kept under 300.
Recently, there are 85 wildlife protectors in the reserve, and 1,000 herders have part-time jobs going around and cleaning up garbage.
“These measures aim to strike a balance between various demands such as environmental protection, local poverty relief, mountaineering and education,” said Wang Shen, county chief of Dingri at the mountain foot.

A.Most tourists are allowed to visit the base camp.

D.The areas above 5,200 meters are open to everyone.

【七选五练】
You don't need to travel far away to write a travel diary. Your writing can start with a family vacation or a weekend getaway. All you need is a destination or a place of departure(出发)!
1 Your trip journal can begin before your trip has started. Use your journal to start planning the things you want to do. It can be a cool restaurant where you want to eat, a hike you want to go on or different sights you want to see.
Write about what you imagine it will be. Sometimes when you travel, your destination is wildly different from what you expected. Maybe you expected the local food to be bad but it turned out to be delicious.
2 Maybe you thought you would not be comfortable with the climate while you adapted to it. Whatever, try to write it down before you arrive. It will be interesting to compare these predictions to what you have actually experienced.
3 It is always easier to remember things when they are fresh in your brain, but it may be diluted(淡化)with time going by. So try to write as much as you can during travelling every day if you can. Your journals don't have to be long, but letting them express your feelings is the most important.
Add pictures to your journal. 4 Combining pictures with your first-hand accounts of what they represent, or what happened when they were taken, will make for(有助于)a better travel journal.
Write about your trip after you leave. It is important to reflect on your travels, so you can have a new understanding. 5
A.Ask a parent for help.
B.Get prepared for your travel journal.
C.Write as much as you can during your trip.
D.Use your journal to plan your trip properly.
E.Maybe you imagined the town to be smaller than it actually is.
F.Even though your journal is meant for writing, pictures are still worth a thousand words.
G.This is also a great way to learn about yourself and other people who you have travelled with.

Many families take their children on vacation. They will usually travel for a few days or weeks during school breaks. But Julie and Tim Smith have planned a longer vacation with their two children. The Smith family is on a one-year trip around the world. They plan to visit 30 countries in all. Right now, the four travelers are about halfway through their trip. Ms. Smith says they are trying to see as much of the world as they can.
Mr. Smith says one of the most interesting experiences of the trip has been meeting new people. He says people have been extremely friendly, very welcoming and love their kids. Eleven-year-old Tyler says he has enjoyed learning about the people they have met. He says, “I learned in Africa that people have very different lifestyles than in America.” His sister, 9-year-old Kara, discovers that she likes Thai food. Ms. Smith says that the trip teaches the children a lot.
It took the family a year to prepare for the trip. They had to sell their house and cars. Ms. Smith left her job and her husband is using unpaid leave. They carry small bags filled with lightweight clothing and whatever else they need. Ms. Smith says she enjoys being able to carry everything she needs on her back. “Are you going to Seattle ” an anxious-looking woman asked a female traveler at the Amtrak Airport in Sacramento. “No, I'm going to Eugene,” the traveler replied. “Oh, I was hoping you could watch out for my daughter. She's never been on a plane alone before.”
Now, as I am quite a seasoned plane traveler, I know that seats and cars are supplied by the destination. So I came up to the woman and her frightened-looking daughter, telling the woman that her daughter could sit with me and that I would take care of her during the journey.
The plane had arrived 25 minutes late, and people walked in line to get their seats. The conductor wanted to know if there were people traveling together, so I went to the front of the line with the girl and we were arranged to sit next to each other. Once on board, I showed her where to put her package, and took her to the bathroom area. Then we settled down to sleep. In the morning, I showed her the dining room and bought her a drink. She became comfortable enough to do what most 15-year-olds do: talk and text on her mobile phone.
Throughout the trip, I made sure she picked up her ID, which had fallen out of her backpack, and some money, which had fallen into the crack(缝隙) of the reclining seat, and continuously kept an eye on her. I hope someone takes her under their wing when she flies back to Sacramento.
I do hope that kindness will spread around the world through these ways. We're conditioned to think that our lives go on with great moments. But great moments often catch us unaware, beautifully wrapped(包裹)in what others may consider a small one.

7.Why did the author go to the front of the line
A.To make sure of his seat.
B.To help the girl find her seat.
C.To ask for the two seats next to each other.
D.To get a more comfortable seat in the front.
8.What is the writer's opinion according to the last paragraph
A.Experience is the best teacher.
B.You never know till you have tried.
C.Happiness lies in giving help to others.
D.Do something good even though it may be tiny.
