Culture shock isn't a clinical term or medical conditions. It's simply a common way to describe the confusing and nervous feelings a person may have after leaving a familiar culture to live in a different culture. 1 . That can be exciting, but it can also be overwhelming.
Everyone feels the pressure to fit in at one time or another—whether they've lived in the area for days or years. But don't feel like you need to change everything about yourself so you can stand out less. 2 .
Here are a few tips for making sure your new culture doesn't overpower the old:
Educate people about your culture. Being the one entering the new culture doesn't mean you should be the one doing all the learning. 3 . They may know little about it. It will also help them to learn more about you in the process.
Find a support group. Find kids in your class or neighbors who recently moved, too. You can share experiences.
4 . You probably left behind good friends and family when you moved. If it's going to be a long time until your next visit, keep in touch. You also left behind other things—like your favourite spot to hang out in. Keep pictures around to remind you of home.
Remember, it's important to be yourself. 5 . You will have your own pace of adaptation. As long as you find a good combination between old and new, you'll be fine.
A.Keep in touch with home
B.Understand the new culture
C.But the good news is that culture shock is temporary
D.When you move to a new place, you're bound(一定会) to face a lot of changes
E.Try not to force yourself to change too fast or too many things all at once
F.All of your experiences before you came to your new home are part of you
G.Take the opportunity to teach classmates and new friends about your culture
1. 2. 3. 4. 5.

I'm a student in my third year at Robert Gordon University, but I also work 35 hours a week at Sainsbury's to make ends meet.
I constantly have to force myself to stay awake, and to be alert, whatever it takes. The work I do at Sainsbury's is manual like stacking(摞) shelves. I am lucky because the weight of the things I lift at work is nothing compared with those in the gym. I know I have the strength to bear them.
I am originally from Nigeria. I came here when I was seven. Money was always tight. My parents gave me everything I needed, but there was no money for luxuries(奢侈品). I worked hard at school though and, with the help of professors, I got the best A-level grades in my class.
Unfortunately, though I had applied for “settled”British residential status, the Home Office waited until I was in the sixth form to approve my application. That meant I was not eligible for a student loan. The only way I could afford to go to university was that I got a job that would pay for all my living costs and my parents paid for my tuition fees.
I don't have much time to socialize because of my job. Ideally, I'd like to have more time to study so I can excel(突出) at my courses. Yes, I have a lot on my plate, but working hard isn't new for me. Growing up, I have been cultivated the importance of working hard for what I want in life.
My dream is to get a job in the NHS. But now, I'm just focused on trying to get the best grades I can. Whenever I find life hard, I tell myself this is about my future.

In Canada and the United States, there are a new group of children called “satellite kids”, who live in one place but whose parents live in another place.
Asians are immigrating to Canada and the United States in larger numbers than ever before. Most Asians immigrate because they believe that they can give their children a better education in the West. In Asia, especially in China, Japan, and Korea, it is difficult to go to university. Students must first pass the strict national examination. However, in Canada and the United States, it is easy to go to university, and anyone who wants to go can go. As a result, Asian parents decide to leave their countries so that their children can go to university.
The problem is that when Asians arrive, they discover that finding a job and making money are more difficult in the West than in the East. Also, they find that they are very lonely, and that they miss their homes. Because of these two reasons, most Asian parents decide to go back to work while their children study in the West. Therefore, these children become “satellite kids”, and most of their parents do not know how sad it is to be a “satellite kid”.
Only until now are Canadians and Americans discovering the “satellite kid” problem. Because these children do not speak English and their parents are not there to take care of them, they are often absent from school. To be a “satellite kid” means growing up in the surroundings where you know you are different and where you cannot make friends because you do not speak English well. Also, it means growing up lonely, because your parents are elsewhere. What these “ satellite kids” will probably say to their parents is that it's better to have parents around than to have a university education.
1.Some Asian parents send their kids abroad because .
A.they hope their children may easily find a job there
B.the kids may not be accepted by universities in their own country
C.all foreign universities are better than the ones in their own country
D.the kids want to improve their English and make foreign friends
2.“Satellite kids” refer to the Asian kids .
A.without parents B.living abroad alone
C.with university education D.not speaking English
3.Some Asian immigrant children become “satellite kids” because their parents .
A.want to leave their own country
B.want them to go to university
C.return to their countries to work
D.want them to be independent
4.What is the main idea of the passage
A.Parents want a better education for their kids.
B.Parents feel lonely and miss their families.
C.Canadians and Americans begin to notice the “satellite kid” problem.
D.Kids in foreign countries alone are badly in need of care from families.

Wang Xuan, a graduate student at Johns Hopkins University, was planning to get the Internet and TV service in the U.S. She went to Verizon, the US' largest wireless communication service provider, only to be told that she couldn't enjoy the service because her credit score wasn't high enough.
In most Western countries, the credit score is a number that determines whether you are a reliable person to offer credit to. A higher score means you have better personal credit. Your score is affected by your monthly debts, whether you pay bills on time and other types of information.
Wang is hardly alone in dealing with the credit score trouble. Many Chinese overseas students lack the necessary knowledge about credit scores, even though it's widely used in their everyday life. Banks will check your score if you want to get a credit card. To get a loan, a good credit score is vital. It also matters, when you rent an apartment or buy a house. Its influence doesn't end there. An increasing number of employers now check the credit scores of applicants. You can't ignore that a credit report can be a judge of character.
So how can you get a good credit score Meet your repayments on time and pay off your accounts early if you can. If you're using savings to pay off debts, make a good budget and keep enough cash in an easy-access savings account for emergencies. If you want to improve your credit rating immediately, you should fix all the problems on your credit file before you start applying for a loan. Also, cancel credit cards that you're not currently using.
1.What problem did Wang Xuan have
A.Her credit score was too low.
B.Her credit affected graduation.
C.She couldn't enjoy public services.
D.She couldn't stay in the U.S. any more.
2.Why do students like Wang have the credit score trouble
A.Because the credit score is too hard to improve.
B.Because they don't know how to get a credit card.
C.Because the credit score is hardly used in their life.
D.Because they lack relevant knowledge about credit scores.

A month ago, I received an admission letter from Berkeley University, America, which made my whole family excited. Very soon, it's time for my leaving. On an unforgettable morning, my sister came to see me off. We arrived at the airport just in time for my flight. “Well, here we are, ”my sister said with a sigh. As I watched her unload my luggage, I could see the sadness in her eyes. We had both been fearing this moment for the past week. After one last hug and a final goodbye, I would be on my way to a new life abroad.
I didn't put my bag in the overhead locker; instead, I just placed it on my legs. The departure meant I could not see my dear sister for quite a long time. I was lost in thought, recalling the happy moments my sister and I had spent together. Growing up, my sister and I would do everything together. One sunny summer day I was playing outside when she came up to me and said, “Want to come to the attic(阁楼) ” We both knew that the answer to that question was always “Yes”. We were frightened of the attic but also fascinated by its smells and sounds. Whenever one of us needed something, the other one would come along.
Before I knew it, the plane took off. But while it was going up, the plane shook heavily and the bag on my legs fell on the floor. My aspirin, hairbrush and a book I planned to read were spread on the floor. I was about to bend down to gather them up when I saw an unfamiliar little book in the middle of my belongings. It was not until I picked it up that I realized that it was a diary.
Paragraph 1:
Immediately I recognized my sister's handwriting.
Paragraph 2:
I returned home two years later.

Paragraph 1:
Immediately I recognized my sister's handwriting. “Dear sister, what a day it has been today! You've got an admission letter to go abroad for further study and we...” Only then did I realize my sister had been keeping a diary every day during the past month. Holding the book in my hands, I could not hold back my tears any more. The old golden days we spent together came flooding back. “I'll miss you. I'll join you after my graduation,” I said in my heart, determined to complete my university courses in America and return home.
Paragraph 2:
I returned home two years later. Seeing her after so long a time, I hugged my sister tightly, who was in pleasant surprise. “Will you leave again ” she asked softly. “Never. We'll explore the life ahead together if you like, just as we used to do with the attic,” I said. Then for days we talked about our possible plans, feeling confident that with joint efforts we would have a bright future to look forward to.
