1.by the time引导的时间状语从句
【教材原句】By the time he was a teenager,he had already enjoyed a reputation as a wonderful young musician.
到他少年的时候,他已经是有名的年轻音乐家了。
(1)by the time+从句(一般过去时),主句时态一般用过去完成时。
by the time+从句(一般现在时),主句时态一般用一般将来时或将来完成时。
如果主句动作不强调完成,只说明某个时候的状况,此时主句根据实际需要选用适当的时态。
(2)by the end of+过去时间,句子时态为过去完成时。
by the end of+将来时间,句子时态为将来完成时。

2.状语从句的省略

When composing是状语从句的省略形式,省略主语he和be动词。
构成状语从句省略的条件: when,while,though,even if,unless,if,as if等引导的状语从句中的主语与主句主语一致或从句主语为it,状语从句谓语中含有be动词。

(1)see sb/sth doing sth意为“看到某人/某物在做某事”,例句中的standing, clapping,and waving...为a sea of people的补足语。
(2)see sb/sth do sth和see sb/sth doing sth之间的不同含义:see sb/sth do sth说明“看到某人/某物做过某事”,而see sb/sth doing sth则强调说明“看到某人/某物正在做某事”,突出动作的进行性。另外,感官动词hear,watch,observe, notice,feel等有着和see相同的用法。

4.so...that...引导结果状语从句

so/such...that...引导结果状语从句,意为“如此……以至于……”。
(1)so...that...句型的常见形式:
so+adj./adv.+that...
so+adj.+a/an+n.+that...
so+many/much/few/little(少)+n.+that...
(2)such...that...句型的常见形式:
such+a/an+adj.+n.+that...
such+adj.+n.(复数或不可数)+that...
注意:(1)little既有“少”的意思,又有“小”的意思。当“少”讲时后接不可数名词,用so修饰;当“小”讲时后接可数名词,用such修饰。
(2)当so/such放在句首时,主句要用部分倒装语序。
