【What】 本单元话题是Education,属“人与自我”、“人与社会”两个主题语境。本课包括两段听力对话,第一段对话主要谈论教育的重要性、内涵及目标;第二段对话阐述了不同层次的学习方法。概括而言,两段对话谈论了关于教育的三个维度的问题,即:什么是教育 (What)、为什么要教育(Why)、如何学习(How) 。这三方面也高度概括了本单元各课的内容。但就如何学习而言,本单元除了Topic Talk中提到的学习方法之外,Reading Club 1还讨论了学习方式的变化。因此教师在Exercise 3后面添加了Workbook中的Exercise 8,以确保学生能够全面认识单元话题,明确单元学习任务。
【Why】 Topic Talk作为单元学习的导入部分,旨在让学生们通过本课的学习,对单元主题从整体上有一个感性的认识。作者希望通过第一段听力材料,引导学生思考什么是教育(What),教育的目标和重要性是什么(Why),通过第二段听力材料让学生明白不同层次的学习方法会有不同的学习效果,即解决How的问题。教师通过添加Workbook中的练习,让学生了解不同的学习途径,以丰富How的维度。此外,本课提供了丰富的与主题相关的词汇让学生充分表达自己对教育的理解和认识,以便调动已知,为单元学习做铺垫。
【How】作者通过提出问题 “Do you think education is important in personal and social development ”作为导入,引发学生思考,调动背景知识。之后在第一段对话中分别引用教育家Comenius和Dewey的观点及名言来说明教育的内涵、目标以及重要性。在第二段对话中则引用了布鲁姆认知教育目标分类法,使得学习材料有高度,更有说服力,引发学生反思。在“Quote…Unquote”部分引用的名人名言也涉及了有关教育 “What” “Why” “How”的问题,适合学生讨论,进一步理解“Education”的主题意义。
