教学过程:
Step 1 导入:让学生初步了解莎士比亚
Let the students read the title and tell the person talked about in this passage. Play the tape for the students and ask them to find the answers to three questions:
1. When was William Shakespeare born and when did he die?
2. How many different words are there in his plays?
3. Which one is the most popular and longest of all his plays?
通过听一段Lingling和Tony之间的对话回答这三个问题,初步了解莎士比亚的基本情况,以吸引学生的注意力,使其对人物感兴趣,并有意愿更深入的了解所学内容。
Step 2 课文及知识点讲解:掌握应知应会的语言点并适当拓展
Ask the students to listen to the passage The life of William Shakespeare, then ask students to read the passage paragraph by paragraph, and meanwhile explain the words and expressions to them with the help of ppt.
Ask the students to read paragraph 1 and explain “play”, “poem”, “some of…”, and his hometown. For example: here is a sentence in the passage “He was born in 1564 in England”. The teacher has found a picture about William Shakespeare’s old family house and his hometown to let the students gain more knowledge. Besides, the teacher also gives them a sentence to explain his hometown “Shakespeare was born in Stratford-on-Avon in England”. The teacher will explain Stratford-on-Avon to the students and ask them to guess why we have to use such a long name to describe Shakespeare’s hometown. The reason is that there are two Stratford in the UK, so we should say the birthplace clearly so that there will not be any mistakes.
Ask the students to read paragraph 2 and 3 together and fill in the table on their own, in order to understand the brief history of Shakespeare. Then check the answers with partners. Explain the words “at the age of”, “marry” to them. Take another example: when explaining the word “marry”, the teacher will ask the students to read the sentence “He married in 1582 and had three children.” on the book. There is not an object behind “marry”, so it is a vi --- sb. marry. The teacher will show one sentence about William Shakespeare’s life, that is, “He married a farmer’s daughter called Anne at the age of 18.” In this sentence, we can find out another usage of the word “marry” --- marry sb. Here the word is a vt. In this way, the students can not only learn the word but also widen their minds.
Ask the students to read the last two paragraphs and explain a background of the New Globe Theatre to them, so that they can learn more about history and culture.
通过通篇文章的学习,使学生掌握应知应会的知识点,并借助ppt图片来为学生进行适当的文学背景知识拓展,让学生通过了解背景对所学知识产生更加浓厚的兴趣,学得更快更好。
Step 3 写作:学会如何介绍名人
通过整篇文章的学习,我们可以将文章分为开头、正文和结尾部分;开头是对人物进行简要介绍,正文部分是对莎翁的生平进行说明,结尾则给出了作者或世人对莎翁的评价。了解了这样的结构,学生就可以仿写一篇文章来介绍其他名人。
此时,教师会在ppt中给出一个关于鲁迅生平的表格和一个作文模板,让学生看着表格填充模板,体会如何才能写出一篇介绍名人的好文章。这个活动既可以使学生运用所学词组,又可以让学生通过作文练习得到成就感,了解写英语作文其实并不难,只要有方法会用词就能写出好文章。
