作文范文
Dear Worried,
I’m sorry to know that you’re having such a bad time at the moment. You easily lose temper, which has had a negative effect on your study and life. But the truth is that everyone will have one of those periods when things seem to be going wrong, so you don’t have to worry so much.
Here are some tips that I hope will be of help to you. First, talk to someone you trust about how you feel. This is a good way of letting your anger out without hurting others or yourself. Second, go outdoors and play games with your friends as physical exercise is an effective way to get rid of anger and relieve pressure. Last but not least, you had better remain optimistic about your future, which is helpful in lifting your spirits. It is important to control your temper so that you may not do or say anything you’ll regret.
I hope my suggestions are helpful for you and you’ll soon feel calmer and stay on the right track to success.
Yours,
Li Hua青神中学校2023-2024学年高一上学期11月期中考试

Basketball had always been a huge part of my life ever since I was little, and it had been my favorite sport until high school. I was captain of the team in my second year of high school. I felt I had to do very well. The stress I put myself under was unhealthy: I felt as if I couldn't make mistakes, and that stopped me enjoying the game I once loved. I finished my second-year basketball season and had no fun at all.
My Spanish teacher came up to me after my second-year basketball season, asking if I had ever thought about playing Unified (融合的) Basketball. Unified Sports joins people with intellectual or physical disabilities (called Athletes), and people without disabilities (called Partners), on the same team. The main goal is to build friendships and encourage inclusivity. I had thought about it before, but there was a rule that said I couldn't play Unified if I played basketball for the school. So, I finally decided to quit school basketball.
Quitting basketball was not easy. I received strong opposition from my parents and the coaches as well as my friends who were on the team. It was not a popular or traditional decision, but I knew it was the right one for me.
Walking into my first Unified practice, I did not know what to expect. I awkwardly introduced myself to a few of the Unified Athletes, but after the first day, it already seemed like we were becoming a family. We won a lot of games, but we also had the most fun I've ever had. All the stress I used to feel disappeared when I played with them. Seeing the Athletes score their first points of the season and then dance down the whole court excitedly is one of my favorite basketball memories.
Unified Sports opened my eyes to how much more there is to sports than winning and losing. The Athletes on the team thought that I was there to help them, but they did not know how much they helped me.

D.They took the author to hospital.
26.How did the author feel after taking up Unified Basketball
A. Awkward and silly. B. Stressed and bored.

27.Which of the following can be the best title for the text
A.My Love of Basketball
B.Unified Sports Changed My Life
C.My Memories of Playing Basketball
D.Sports Helped Me Make Lasting Friendships

Can dogs and cats live in perfect harmony in the same home People who are thinking about adopting a dog as a friend for their cats are worried that they will fight. A recent research has found a new recipe of success. According to the study, if the cat is adopted before the dog, and if they are introduced when still young (less than 6 months for cats, a year for dogs), it is highly probable that the two pets will get along swimmingly. Two-thirds of the homes interviewed reported a positive relationship between their cat and dog.
However, it wasn't all sweetness and light. There was a reported coldness between the cat and dog in 25% of the homes, while aggression and fighting were observed in 10% of the homes. One reason for this is probably that some of their body signals were just opposite. For example, when a cat turns its head away it signals aggression, while a dog doing the same signals submission.
In homes with cats and dogs living peacefully, researchers observed a surprising behaviour. They are learning how to talk each other’s language. It is surprise that cats can learn how to talk “dog”, and dogs can learn how to talk “cat”.
What’s interesting is that both cats and dogs have appeared to develop their intelligence. They can learn to read each other's body signals, suggesting that the two may have more in common than we previously thought. Once familiar with each other's presence and body language, cats and dogs can play together, greet each other nose to nose, and enjoy sleeping together on the sofa. They can easily share the same water bowl and in some cases groom (梳理) each other.
The meaning of this research on cats and dogs may go beyond pets—to people who don't get along, including neighbors, colleagues at work, and even world superpowers. If cats and dogs can learn to get along, surely people have a good chance.

A new study suggests that mindfulness education — lessons on techniques to calm the mind and body — can reduce the negative effects of stress and increase students’ ability to stay engaged, helping them stay on track academically and avoid behavior problems.
After finding that students who self-reported mindful habits performed better on tests and had higher grades, researchers from the Center for Education Policy Research at Harvard University wanted to know if school-based mindfulness training could help more students reap similar benefits.
They designed a study focusing on sixth-graders in a Boston school. The study showed that sixth-graders who participated in an eight-week mindfulness were less stressed out than their classmates who hadn’t. Practicing mindfulness had helped improve the ability to focus in the moment, expanding students’ capacity to learn and regulate their emotions.
Four times a week, instructors from Calmer Choice, a Massachusetts nonprofit specializing in mindfulness education, taught the group techniques and led them through practices, like focusing on a rock for a minute, then discussing when their mind wandered and refocused on the rock. Another group of sixth-graders took computer coding during that time instead. The students were randomly assigned between the groups.
At the end of the eight weeks, the mindfulness group reported being less stressed than they had been before the mindfulness education, and better able to practice self-control. And their amygdalae, the part of the brain that controls emotion, responded less to pictures of fearful faces than they did prior to the mindfulness work, suggesting their brains were less sensitive to negative stimuli, or, in other words, that they were less likely to get stressed out and lose focus. The group who attended coding classes didn’t see the same benefits.
The findings suggest that the mindfulness instruction helped boost students’ attention skills, as well as develop coping mechanisms for stress. The researchers believe it could be especially useful for schools to support students suffering from severe mental damage and other adversities that trigger stress in the body, hurting students’ ability to succeed.
32. What was the purpose of the study
A. To examine the techniques for practicing mindfulness.
B. To study the effects of group mindfulness training on students.
C. To see how students help themselves to perform better on tests.
D. To understand why mindfulness training calms the mind and body.
33. How was the study conducted
A. By listing benefits of mindfulness education.
B. By scanning the brain to see how it controls emotions.
C. By teaching different students different mindfulness skills.
D. By comparing two groups of students attending different classes.
34. What change took place after the students practiced mindfulness work
A. They felt easier to stay focused. B. They were better at computer coding.
C. Their mind was wandering more actively. D. Their brains were more aware of negativity.
35. Who are the most possible target readers of the passage
A. Stressful parents. B. Mindful instructors.
