It isn’t easy to climb the Old Man of Hoy, one of the tallest in the United Kingdom. It is even more dangerous if you happen to be a blind climber, as Jesse Dufton is. The 34-year-old was born with a rare genetic disease (遗传 病) that left him with less than 20 percent of his vision ( 视 觉), which then kept dropping over the years. He chooses to climb, because it’s better than sitting at home feeling sorry for yourself, right Climbing is not the most
dangerous thing I do on an average day; crossing the road on the way to work is far more risky than Hoy.”
Dufton has been climbing mountains since childhood. As a skilled climber, his father would take him out at weekends. He was always physical then, always up for adventure. He played sports at school, though quickly grew frustrated (沮丧) with many of them. Badminton was a joke for someone like me, and even blind cricket — with a ball with a bell in it — annoyed me. “Instead he was attracted to climbing and skiing, and insists that climbing is one of the safer activities for a blind person to undertake. “True, you can’t see the handholds, or the footholds. You can’t see where the opportunities are, or where to place your hands and your gear (齿轮), so you just have to take it slowly. You search around until you can feel for something to hold onto, and then basically repeat the process over
and over again. To keep calm in these situations helps.”
It was Jesse himself who made a documentary happen. He told the filmmaker Alistair Lee about his pastime, believing it might be worth capturing on film. I realized my story was quite unusual,” he says, adding that he felt

My parents love tennis and they' re members of a tennis club. My older brother was really good at it and they supported him — taking him to lessons all the time. So when I announced I wanted to be a tennis champion when I grew up, I just intended for them to notice me. My mother laughed. She knew I couldn't possibly be serious, I was
just a 4-year-old kid!
Later, I joined the club's junior coaching group and eventually took part in my first proper contest, confident that my team would do well. We won, which was fantastic, but I wasn't so successful. I didn't even want to be in the team photo because I didn't feel I deserved to be. When my coach asked what happened in my final match, I didn't know what to say. I couldn't believe I'd lost. I thought I was the better player. But every time I attacked, the other
player defended well. I couldn't explain the result.
After that, I decided to listen more carefully to my coach because he had lots of tips. I realised that I need the right attitude to be a winner. On court I have a plan but sometimes the other guy will do something unexpected so
I'll change it. If I lose a point, I do my best to forget it and find a way to win the next one.
At tournaments, it's impossible to avoid players who explode in anger. Lots of players can be negative, including myself sometimes. I felt angry and nearly broke my racket! But my coach has helped me develop ways to
control those feelings. After all, the judges have a hard job and you just have to accept their decisions.
My coach demands that I train in the gym to make sure I'm strong right to the end of a tournament. I'm getting
good results: my shots are more accurate and there's a chance that I could be a champion one day with hard work.

tournament.

We all know about the health benefits of swimming. It offers a great exercise for the body — it builds patience,
muscle strength and cardiovascular (心血管的) fitness. If you don’t mind getting wet, it can be fun too. 1 Well,
many people are taking the jump, based on evidence that it can actually be good for us.
Cold-water swimming is sometimes called “wild swimming”, namely swimming in natural areas including ponds, rivers and the sea. Jumping in gives a short sharp shock to the body, but many participants say that they have got used to it. A cold dip might wake you up, but research has found that it can have much bigger benefits
than that for your body and mind. 2
3 One man who suffered constant pain after surgery claimed that he was cured by taking a swim in cold open water. And another swimmer, Sandria Simons, told the BBC, “The immersion (浸没) of your body in
cold, salt water, just feeling like you’re at one with nature if you like, just feels amazing.”
But what is it that people are gaining from this cold and uncomfortable experience Doctors say that getting into cold water causes a stress response, but the more you do it, the less stress you will have. It’s also thought to
have a strong anti-anger effect. 4 Some experts believe that cold-water swimming helps
“cross-adaptation”, where one form of stress prepares the body for another. For example, it also helps to reduce the
stress of exercising at high altitude.
5 You should approach it with caution, swim with a friend, and maybe start in the summer, when the
water temperatures are higher.
A .It can also improve your health and happiness.
B .People of all ages join the activity, even little kids.
C .Cold-water swimmers should make full preparations.
D .So, if you’re convinced that this is for you, take advice.
E .But who would enjoy swimming in water that is ice cold
F .But there are bigger benefits to this stress-reducing exercise.
G .Cold-water swimming has reportedly cured certain health conditions.

The referee’s whistle went off, which signaled Sadie’s being against the rules of the game. It was only the first
quarter, and Sadie had already crashed twice into another player’s wheelchair. Her coach waved her off the court for a substitution ( 替换) as the crowd responded with catcalls and laughed at her. She had never seen a crowd
express such disappointment before.
Sadie watched her teammates fight in front of her. Her emotions were all over the place, and they showed in her basketball playing. If only she and her brother Richie had not argued this morning about the game. “What’s so
important, Richie, that you can’t be at the game Don’t I matter anymore ” Sadie had asked.
Richie is Sadie’s whole world, and they both love sports, especially basketball. Sadie loved to play before her accident, and it was Richie who taught her to play again afterwards. There had been days when she did not want to get out of bed, and he would persuade her until she got up. He even borrowed a wheelchair himself to help her learn
to play the game all over again. Together they would roll across the outdoor court, playing all day long.
But lately Richie had preferred to hang out with his new high school friends. Sadie would watch through the window as Richie cleaned his new bike. He was as careful as a mother cat cleaning her baby cats. When he went
away, Sadie would keep staring out of the window, tears clouding her eyes.
Mama was her sun. Her arms would reach out and encircle her. “Sadie,” she would say, “your brother loves
you. Even though he’s got new friends now, that doesn’t mean he doesn’t care about you.” But Sadie felt hurt.
Sadie looked up and saw her coach shaking his head. She searched sadly for her mother, expecting
disappointment in her eyes, but instead she saw a wide smile. It was the same happy face she saw in photos at home.
Sadie followed her mother’s gaze (注视) to find a figure jogging toward her across the gym.

Jumping in gives a short sharp shock to the body, but many participants say that they
have got used to it.

It was only the first quarter, and Sadie had already crashed twice into another player’s wheelchair. Her coach waved her off the court for a substitution ( 替换) as the crowd responded with catcalls and laughed at her. She had never seen a crowd
express such disappointment before.
Sadie watched her teammates fight in front of her. Her emotions were all over the place, and they showed in
her basketball playing.

范文:
It was Richie, holding a bunch of purple and white flowers. Richie smiled sweetly at his sister and handed her the
flowers. “But we’re losing now. How do you know we’re going to win ” she asked. “I don’t,” Richie said. “It’s not important. What I know is you’re a gifted player and like a whirlwind on the court , and there is no way I’m going to miss my little sister’s big game!” He then put his hand on her shoulder, saying “It’s great to have a lot of new
friends, but you are always my best friend. And I love you.”
Those words meant more to Sadie than “I’m sorry” and she went back onto the court happily. She rested a flower in her wheelchair and played the rest of the game with it. With her brother watching on the sidelines, Sadie kept her spirits up and tried her best. She stole the ball from a competitor, fought her way to the net and made the first of what would be many amazing shots for the team.
