第一节 (满分 15 分)
【参考范文】
Last Saturday, I attended our school’s music forum where my understanding of music was deeply enriched.
Therefore, it deserves a special mention in our Art Gallery column.
Bringing together minds with a shared passion for music, the event was both informative and inspiring.
Discussions ranged from classical styles to modern ones, involving various aspects of music such as history,
composition, performance and appreciation. Passionate speakers turned this forum into a totally intellectual feast.
Previously, to me, music was just a form of entertainment, but now my attitude has greatly shifted. I perceive
music not only as an emotional enjoyment but also an outlet for creativity and personal expressions, and a medium
to connect with others.

【参考范文 1】
基础版:
The brothers were playing with the dog one afternoon when it suddenly stopped and started barking
alarmingly. As Tom turned around, what he saw next made him scared. It was their mother! As her children were
coming home late recently, and suspiciously, they stopped complaining about her dinner, she decided to follow
them after school to see what was happening. In fact, she had been standing there for a while, observing the great
companionship of the dog to her sons.
The two children lowered their heads in shame when their mother began to talk. “Looks like this would be our
new family member. What’s its name ” Upon hearing this, the brothers erupted into cheers and thanked their
mother repeatedly. The brothers were relieved that the dog was finally out of the bag. They were thankful that their
mother was understanding and apologised for keeping it a secret from her. Tom and John promised to be
responsible pet owners and take care of the dog with a lot of effort.

alarmingly. The boys, shocked by the sudden change in behavior, tried to calm the dog down, but all attempts
proved futile. Tom and John exchanged scared glances as they realized their secret could be revealed just because
of a frightened bark! Just as they began strategizing how to move “Project Park” from the now too conspicuous

location, they saw a familiar figure at the entrance of the warehouse. Their hearts dropped — their mother was
standing there, her eyes wide open.
The two children lowered their heads in shame when their mother began to talk. “Boys,” she started gently but
firmly, “I’d like to have seen more honesty from you.” She told them about how she had followed them after
noticing food missing regularly from the kitchen. The boys listened, their hearts heavy with regret for keeping this
secret from her. When she finally paused, John looked up with pleading eyes. “Can we keep it, Mum ” he asked
timidly. After a long sigh, their mother nodded. “But remember,” she said softly, “we work together as a family, and
we shouldn’t hide things from each other.” And so, what started as an adventure unfolded into a lesson on trust and
honesty for both John and Tom while welcoming a new addition to the family.

W: Tom, what do you think of Evan
M: The new kid I don’t know much about him. He’s pretty quiet in class, and he doesn’t seem to want to play
soccer with us after school. I’ve asked him many times, but he always says that he doesn’t want to play.
W: He seems really shy. I don’t think he’s made any friends here.
M: I want to invite him over tomorrow.
W: That’s a good idea, but you’d better ask Mom and Dad about it first. They don’t know anything about Evan, and
they might want to talk to his parents before they let him come over.
M: Mom knows his dad already. They work at the same company. In fact, she met Evan before we did! I’m sure
it’ll be fine. I don’t think we need to ask them. Anyway, they won’t be home until six o’clock.
Text 8
W: What do you want to do when you finish university
M: I’d like to go into management. How about you
W: After I graduate, I’ll do some studies to pass exams to become a lawyer.
M: Yeah. We both need to make great efforts.
W: If life were easy, then we’d achieve our ambitions quickly and then get bored.
M: Unfortunately, some people are going to work hard and yet not succeed.
W: That’s why an ambition needs to be realistic.
M: If you plan carefully, most things are possible.
W: I think it’s important to be successful in a field you’re truly interested in, not something other people force you
to do.
M: My father wanted me to become a doctor, but I knew I wouldn’t be successful in that field.
W: I’m lucky that my parents don’t prevent me from my choice of career.
Text 9
M: Thanks for stopping by, Ann. I’d like to talk to you about a research project I thought you might be interested in.
A friend of mine is working at Yellowstone National Park this summer.
W: Yellowstone! I’ve always wanted to spend some time out there.
M: She’s working with the deer. The population has been increasing lately, which is good in theory. That is because
of all the winter tourists. Paths are created in the snow, which make it easier for the deer to move around and
find food. Thus, more deer are surviving the hard winters. But it turns out that some of them are infected with a

opportunity.
Text 10
W: Drinking extra water can help you lose weight. You’ve probably heard these claims about water before.
But are they true Scientists aren’t sure where the advice of drinking eight glasses of water a day came from. And
they were unable to find evidence behind it. According to Professor HewButler, what we know is that water is
essential for our bodies. It makes up a majority of our cells and blood, carries out waste and helps cool our bodies
through sweat. So how much water should we drink on a daily basis It depends on your body size, your activity
level, the temperature and how much you’re sweating. Because of these factors, there’s no fixed rule for how much
water you should consume. The best advice is to listen to your body. If you get thirsty, drink water. There are,
however, a few exceptions. Some research suggests that older people may have a decreased amount of water in
their bodies and are therefore at a higher risk of lacking water. So they may need to be more cautious about their
water intake. And other research has proved that drinking more water can help with certain medical conditions.

Dominic Smith, a famous Australian novelist, wrote many great works, of which Return to Valetto stressing relics damaged by an earthquake wins everyone's taste. This attractive novel is packed with fascinating descriptions that immediately pull us into charming Umbria, where centuries of history are layered not just into the buildings and landscapes, but the people.
Our leading character Hugh is a Michigan history professor. He is still unable to escape the sorrow of the death of his wife some years before. But there is a great deal to love about this gentleman who recalls calm childhood summers spent in a cottage, visiting his three aunts and grandmother. He helped with the preparations for his granny's birthday party but soon discovered Elissa, a Milanese chef and fell in love.
Smith's Valetto is fictional, inspired by his research into abandoned Italian towns. The female characters are a combination of the real and the invented, Smith says he is lucky enough to grow up with three older sisters and a mother, so it feels natural to involve women in his works.
As for the character of Hugh, Smith admits there may be some similarities of his own personality in there. Hugh and Smith share a habit for wry (讽刺的) commentary, self-deprecation (自嘲), and they're both affective but try to hide it.
Dominic Smith first penned short stories as a guy growing up in Sydney. He tended to describe faraway places and people as a way of connecting with his surroundings. That tone has stayed with him as a writer. In his later period he began to write long stories. He now lives in Seattle, and has published six novels including the multi-award-winning The Last Painting of Sarah de Vos.24. What can we learn about Return to Valetto from Paragraph 1

Every year, millions of monarch butterflies fly up to 3,000 miles from southern Canada to their wintering grounds in mountain forests outside Mexico City. Everybody knows about the monarchs’ migration (迁徙), but one of the things that we still don't understand very well is how they're capable of making such a long-distance flight while being such a small animal with limited energy。 Amazingly, some of the monarch's continent-overflight magic may be owed to the size of its tiny wing spots.
By studying photos of wing patterns of nearly 400 monarchs collected at various locations on their migration path, scientists discovered an interesting pattern - butterflies that make the journey all the way to Mexico tend to have white wing spots that are three percent larger than those of monarchs found in other places. At the same time, the Mexican animals have three percent less black coloration on their wings than monarchs collected during earlier phases of the multi-generational migration.
Migrating monarchs fly at heights of up to 1,200 feet. As sunlight hits those wings, it heats them up, but asymmetrically. Black areas get hotter, while white areas stay cooler. The scientists believe that when these forces are alternated (交替), it seems to create micro-vortices (小滋涡) of air that reduce drag - making flight more efficient.
When the study quantified the size of all those butterflies' spots, scientists found the monarchs had by far the largest white markings. Indeed, it seems the spot size and its ability to reduce drag might be linked to migration itself. Scientists think that the fall migration is already a major selective event each year. The ones without any infections, or discase, or with the biggest, strongest wings can reach the finish line.
28. What does the author think of the monarchs' migration
A. Adventurous.

No doubt you've heard all about quiet hiring", Here's the thing you probably haven't heard: It could be good for both employers and employees.
Organizations are struggling to keep and acquire in-demand talent, especially as the economic downturn reduces staff budgets. But even when resources are less restricted, organizations will face talent mismatches as skill needs shift with the digitalization of our economy. HR leaders will have to get creative about securing those in-demand skills.
It's not as simple as just going out and paying to attract full-time employees with the right skills Smart organizations will increasingly look internally to find those skills -- not to exploit (剥削)employees, but to make sure the organization is using the limited talent it has where it can have the biggest impact. This means strategically assessing the talent you have available within an organization and making trade-offs on where talent is most needed, and where the organization can afford to slow down work or reduce the headcount (这人). For instance, if an organization is facing a six-month timeline to hire data scientists, they can choose to redistribute data analysts from marketing and HR to their IT and digital workplace teams. This is usually called internal quiet hiring Quiet hiring isn't just a win for the organization. It provides your employees with the opportunity to work stretch assignments, grow their current skills, learn new skills, extend their careers -- and ultimately become invaluable to their current organization and more marketable to others. There are also more immediate benefits to employees - quiet hiring doesn't mean employees who volunteer for these kinds of assignments shouldn't be additionally rewarded in some way. To retain (继续拥有) talent, organizations should expect to offer positive motivational means.
Be cautious of asking too much from your employees at a time when many already feel overworked or burnt -out. You must strike a balance between building employees’ skills and protecting their well-being. Whoever finds a way to do this successfully gives his organization a distinct competitive advantage.
32. What is Paragraph 2 mainly about
A. Why human resources are restricted. B. When many organizations need talent.
C. How HR leaders get creative staff. D. What leads organizations to "quiet hiring
33. Which of the following can best explain internal quiet hiring
A. Current employees might temporarily move to other roles
B. Organizations hire talented people at an awfully high cost
C. Smart organizations restrict employees from quitting jobs.
D. Skilled employees are assigned to do more complex jobs
34. What should be done to get the benefits of quiet hiring without losing talent
A. Reducing the workload of talented workers.
B. Modernizing the employees’ working skills
C. Valuing the experienced employees' choices
D. Offering extra rewards and care to employees
35. Who might be the target readers of the text
A. Employers.
B. Officials
D. Economists.
C, Researchers.

“Let's go home!” John shouted as he waved at Tom. Grabbing their schoolbags, the brothers rushed out of the school together. Tom, the elder one, was thoughtful and mature. Ile was also a tall lean and athletic boy. John was the polar opposite. Although slightly immature, he was a sympathetic child. Nevertheless, they were like two peas in a pod (豆). They were finally dismissed after a tiring day at school and the two could not wait to get home.
To get home more quickly, they decided to take a shortcut through an abandoned ware house While struggling past the old building, John and Tom suddenly heard a distant whimper (呜咽). Could someone be injured That could not be right- n one was supposed to be there. The sad whimper continued on. Eventually, out of curiosity, they went closer towards the frightening sound which seemed to come from behind a door. Holding their breath, they pushed open the door.
“Bark! Bark! “ A scared fur ball protested behind some cardboard boxes. “Wow, a puppy!" John shouted. Before Tom could respond, the puppy started putting its tiny nose into John's schoolbag. “What Oh! That's my half-eaten sandwich." John took out the ham and bread. The puppy swallowed them down at once.
Tom was in deep thought. He could imagine this puppy was abandoned, and therefore lacked the skill to find food on its own. If the dog was left behind, it might not be able to care for itself. He could also see from his younger brother's eyes that he wanted to keep it. Tom was also fully aware that their mother would not welcome a pet in their home.
John suggested leaving the dog in the warehouse but coming back to feed it every day. Thinking it was a brilliant idea, the two agreed to carry out "Project Park" because they would pretend to exercise t the park. While they felt guilty for not telling the truth, yet for now, keeping the dog a secret from their parents seemed to be the only option.
