Ⅰ. Analysis of teaching material
The topic of the unit is “ there be”. In this unit we mainly talk about “There be ...” sentence pattern. We learn about how to describe pictures with “There be ...”. By learning this unit , the students can improve their abilities of listening,speaking,reading and writing.
Ⅱ. Analysis of the students
The students in Grade Four have a certain foundation of English learning. During the process of learning, we should create a good language environment as much as possible, and give students sufficient language acquisition opportunities.
Ⅲ. Teaching Aims
(1) Knowledge aims:
All the pupils can listen, read and say the vocabulary: there be, horse, have a look, sheep, vegetable, climb, face
Most of the pupils can use “there be ” to talk about photos.
(2) Ability aims
Students’ abilities of listening,speaking and reading can be improved.
(3) Moral aims
1. Pupils can actively participate in class learning activities
2. The students can actively cooperate with others to complete the study task.
3. The pupils to love and protect animals can be educated.
Ⅳ.Teaching important and difficult points.
(1). Important points:
Pupils can say the sentences: There is a girl under the tree.
(2) Difficult points:
Pupils can use “ there is /are ” to make sentences.

Teaching procedures
Step 1 Lead in
1. Play a game that named “I say, you do.” Teacher says “running, jumping, swimming or drawing ” etc. and the students do the actions .
2. Encourage the students to say what the teacher is doing when the teacher draw a tree and a zoo on the blackboard.
Step 2 New concepts
(1) According to the picture on the blackboard, lead out “There is a zoo” “There is a tree” . And the teacher lead students to read sentence.
(2)Then show two pictures on PPT, one is a sheep, the other is a horse .The students will learn the two new words “sheep , horse” by pictures. The teacher helps them to say“There is a sheep. It is eating vegetables. There is a horse. It is running.”
Step 3 Listening
1. Play the tape for the students.
Ask them to pay attention to the pronunciation and letteration .
2. Play it again.
Ask them say the words they heard this time.
3. Play the tape the third time.
Ask two questions this time.
Questions:
(1) What’s the horse doing in the picture
(2) Who is the girl
4. Play the tape the fourth time.
Ask them to listen and repeat it.
1. Step 4 Practice
2. Tell the students to try to say the dialogue, even though one sentence.
3. Role play the dialogue: work in pairs, or in groups, or boys and girls play it.
Step 5 Extension
1. Do the activity four on page 40: Describe the picture.
2. Show pictures of a panda and a cat on PPT. The teacher leads the students to describe the picture with “There is a ...” in pairs. And role play it.
For example:
A: There is a panda.
B: It is eating bamboo.
B: There is a cat.
A: It is climbing the tree.
3. Ask some groups to play it in front of the class.
Step 6 Summary
Ask students to talk about what we have learnt in this class.
Step 7 Homework:
The teacher draws a picture of a zoo and let the students practise it after class, then ask them talk about it in the next English class.
