Ⅱ.阅读理解
(2023湖北武钢三中月考)
When you buy something for yourself, you probably spend hours shopping around for the best deal on the highest quality product. Some of you may even desire to know how a brand operates as a company. However, when we donate money to one of the countless charities out there, most of us don't conduct such research. We have absolutely no idea about where that money goes, what it buys or who it helps. At least that is the case for the majority of charities. Perhaps you should start to take a greater interest in the winding path that your charitable donations take, because many of them may lead to dead ends.
You really should ask the question: will my donation to this charity actually help the people or cause Sometimes it makes matters worse. For example, many charities help African people install water pumps to deliver clean water to their communities. Money has been invested over the past 20 years to install a total of 60, 000 pumps across sub-Saharan Africa. However, today 40% of those have failed to work at some point. They have been left there, like expensive but useless decorations.
One of the least effective means of giving is when the charity sends endless shipping containers full of material goods to underdeveloped nations. For instance, Kenya imports more than 100, 000 tons of clothes from global charities each year. The issue is that these mountains of regularly imported clothes have completely destroyed the local textile industry, which has previously supported local economies.
Ultimately, what you give is your choice. It is important to provide highly specialized services instead of material goods. As a general rule of thumb, the more your donation matches the need of the receivers, the better it will be for the long-term prosperity of those you want to help.
1.What do most people do when they donate
A.They keep track of their donations.
B.They neglect the process of charities.
C.They select products of highest quality.
D.They do research on application of funds.
2.Why is the example of water pumps mentioned in paragraph 2
A.To stress effective giving.
B.To illustrate a faulty investment.
C.To confirm a charitable failure.
D.To complain about the pumps' quality.
3.Which view will the author most probably agree with
A.Donations should meet local demands.
B.Ineffective charities must be abandoned.
C.Material goods can boost the textile industry.
D.Specialized services turn out satisfactory.
4.Which is the best title for the passage
A.Has your donation brought you benefits
B.Why should you make a donation
C.Where does my donation go
D.Will my donation to charity really help

(2022山东临沂期中)
阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
When I was eight years old, my seven-year-old cousin, Juliana, got sick. My brother and I were watching television in the family room when my mom came in to tell us the bad news. I wasn't really sure what a heart operation meant, but I could tell it wasn't a good thing. Juliana's family was on a tight budget;so was mine. My parents' faces were full of worry and tears, and that was enough to make me cry, too.
When we went to see Juliana in the hospital, she was lying in bed,and she had tubes(管子) and other things hooked to her. It was confusing and scary.
The treatments continued, but Juliana was weaker and weaker. Every time I visited her, it was hard for me to believe her change. She seemed to lose all her strength and her lovely face turned pale. She lost a lot of weight even though she had proper food. As a child, I really couldn't understand what the doctors were doing to her—it seemed like they were making her feel worse not better.
Seeing my cousin in so much pain made me feel like my own heart was aching. Something needed to be done. I knew I wanted to help her get better faster, but at eight years old, I wasn't sure how I could make a difference—I just knew I had to do something to help her.
One night after we visited Juliana, all the way home I couldn't stop thinking about her. A hospital can be a very scary and cold place. I imagined how lonely Juliana must have felt lying there during the night.
When we got home, I sat down at our kitchen table. I always liked drawing pictures, and I started working at it like I had done so many other nights. But this night was different—I was thinking about Juliana. I thought, “Juliana is going to receive rehabilitation training (康复训练) but money is tight. What if I can sell my drawings Then I can raise money to help her get well faster.”
注意:续写词数应为150左右。
Paragraph 1:
When I told my parents, they thought it was a wonderful idea, but then my mom came up with an even better one—we could make a cookbook.
Paragraph 2:
Soon, we made enough money to pay for Juliana's rehabilitation training.

We have absolutely no idea about where that money goes, what it buys or who it helps.”可知,当我们向无数慈善机构中的一个捐款时,我们中的大多数人并没有进行这样的研究。我们完全不知道捐的钱去了哪里、买了什么、帮了谁。由此可知,大多数人捐款时忽视了慈善的进程。故选B。

Paragraph 1:
When I told my parents, they thought it was a wonderful idea, but then my mom came up with an even better one—we could make a cookbook. The very next day, I asked all of our family and friends to send me their favorite food and ways to cook it. To my surprise, everyone jumped at the chance to help. My mom helped to put everything together. My brother typed while I drew the pictures for it. The idea for a small cookbook quickly grew to over one hundred pages. The local skating club paid for the first printing. We sold almost 300 books in our first week. I couldn't believe it.
Paragraph 2:
Soon, we made enough money to pay for Juliana's rehabilitation training. Whenever I went to the hospital, Juliana thanked me with a smile. Not only did she thank me in words, but also she made a great effort, carrying out the instructions of her doctor and keeping doing light exercise every day. Soon she regained her strength and recovered. Our stories were shared among other patients. I was really proud that I had tried to make a difference and I made it!
