On August 3, 2020, a New Jersey schoolteacher named Julia Mooney put on a button down dress and wore it to work. She wore it the next day and the next. In fact, she continued to wear that same dress for 100 days in a row. Julia wanted to get people—her middle school students, in particular—thinking about fashion in a new way and how we live in what she describes as a “culture of excess”, closets overflowing with clothes far more than we need.
At first, Julia said nothing to her students about her experiment. There was no formal class discussion until several weeks later, at which point the students were responsive. Julia said that her students could really understand the idea that we need to judge each other based on what we do but not what we wear. “As they try to define themselves, the students are often identifying themselves with brands or outward things. Many seemed excited to have a reason to talk about how silly all of that really is,” she said.
A quest for greater simplicity is partly what inspired Julia in the first place. On her website, she wrote that “spending a long time thinking and worrying about what to wear in the morning will be a thing of the past”. It also solved the problem of limited closet space in an old house.
If there was a tear (裂口), Julia patched it with her sewing machine. She was careful with it so she wore an apron (围裙) to keep it clean—just like people did in years gone by. She washed the dress on weekends.
“The challenge I’m presenting is this: Let’s think before we buy it, wear it, throw it away and buy one again. Are we just perpetuating (使持续) a culture that defines us based on what we’re wearing rather than what we’re doing What if we spent our energy trying to be good interesting humans instead of trying to look good and interesting ” she said.
Julia herself is back to wearing pants to work, but the effect of the experiment lingers. She said, “I’m expressing my interest in the health of our planet and the people who occupy it, while channeling less of my energy into my wardrobe and more into loving my children, being patient with my students and embracing my day to day existence.”
1.Why did Julia Mooney wear the same dress continuously
A.She liked that dress most. B.She tried to save time and money.
C.She had to follow a fast fashion trend. D.She wanted to arouse people’s reflection.
2.Which word best describes the students’ attitude to the culture of judging people by their appearance
A.Opposed. B.Indifferent. C.Uncertain. D.Optimistic.
3.What does the author mainly talk about in Paragraph 4
A.The aim Julia wanted to achieve.
B.The influence Julia was trying to exert.
C.Efforts Julia made to keep the plan going well.
D.Difficulties Julia encountered in carrying out the plan.
4.What can we learn from the last paragraph
A.It is our responsibility to protect the earth’s environment.
B.Julia is putting more energy into worthwhile things.
C.Julia doesn’t care what she wears every day.
D.People should be grateful for their daily lives.

How Can I Fight Laziness
Lazy people will never gain anything in life. However, laziness can be defeated once a few changes have been made in your mind.
1 Many people lack sleep constantly, since they stay up too late and get up too early to prepare for work. These people have little motivation once they arrive home. Laziness works hand in hand with a lack of motivation and a tendency to put off things. By adjusting your sleep schedule to provide a few more hours of meaningful rest, you can fight laziness throughout the day.
Another way to fight laziness is to change your mind from passive to active. Some people treat their lives as if they were pushed from one task to another, whilst others take a more positive approach, viewing each task as a challenge they must overcome alone. 2
Some people fight laziness by removing the temptations(诱惑) that surround them. A television in the living room may provide entertainment, but watching too much TV often contributes to laziness. 3 Complete a few tasks and reward yourself with what you enjoy, such as a good dinner or a film.
Laziness can also be a lasting problem at home. Couples and children may all have different energy levels, but laziness can be spread if not dealt with immediately. 4 Be the first to collect and wash dishes after a meal. Others in the home may eventually follow your example and perform their own task. It is difficult to practice laziness when you are surrounded by motivated(有积极性的) people.
5 Enough exercise and a balanced diet can help you to develop a healthy lifestyle, thus enabling you to have more energy and help lift your spirits.
A.Knowing how to fight laziness is important.
B.To fight family laziness, set an example.
C.Finally, taking exercise regularly can help you fight laziness.
D.One way to fight laziness is to get enough sleep.
E.Create a reward system for yourself, just as parents do for a child.
F.Laziness appears when you no longer feel in charge of your own mind.
G.With strong determination, you will be able to achieve your goal.

“It is+过去分词+that...”
2.if/whether 考查从属连词。
分析句子结构可知,“ you said at the meeting”是主语从句,缺少said的宾语,故答案为What。
分析句子可知,“ we show our gratitude to a person”是主语从句,设空处引导主语从句,且在从句中作方式状语,故填how。
1.It was assumed that
2.What he did
3.if/whether the film will be released
4.Why dinosaurs disappeared suddenly
5.It’s suggested that we should take

“It is+过去分词+that...”
分析句子可知,“ 3 we know from the survey”为主语从句,设空处引导主语从句,在从句中作know的宾语,故填What。

根据第一段最后一句“Julia wanted to get people...thinking about fashion in a new way and how we live in...a ‘culture of excess’, closets overflowing with clothes far more than we need.”
根据第二段中的“at which point the students were responsive.Julia said that her students could really understand the idea that we need to judge each other based on what we do but not what we wear.”以及 “As they try to define themselves, the students are often identifying themselves with brands or outward things. Many seemed excited to have a reason to talk about how silly all of that really is”可知学生们对这个实验反应很积极,他们完全理解朱莉娅想传达的“不要关注人们穿什么而应关注人们做什么”即“不要以貌取人”的观点,许多学生因可以谈论那种只关注外表的行为有多愚蠢而感到兴奋。 故选A。

Julia wanted to get people—her middle school students, in particular—thinking about fashion in a new way and how we live in what she describes as a “culture of excess”, closets overflowing with clothes far more than we need.
“how we live in...we need”是how引导的宾语从句,由how前边的and连接与fashion并列作thinking about的宾语;在该宾语从句中,“what she describes as...we need”是what引导的宾语从句,作介词in的宾语,其中“closets overflowing...we need”是独立主格结构,在这个独立主格结构中,“than we need”是than引导的比较状语从句。
根据下文提示“Many people lack sleep constantly...Laziness works hand in hand with a lack of motivation and a tendency to put off things.” D项“One way to fight laziness is to get enough sleep.”
F项“Laziness appears when you no longer feel in charge of your own mind.(当你不再能掌控自己的思想时,懒惰就会出现。)”
根据下文提示“Complete a few tasks and reward yourself with what you enjoy, such as a good dinner or a film.(完成一些任务就奖励自己一些自己喜欢的东西,比如一顿大餐或一场电影。)”可知,E项“Create a reward system for yourself, just as parents do for a child.(为你自己建立一个奖励系统,就像父母为孩子做的那样。)” 该项中的“a reward system for yourself”与下文的“reward yourself”呼应。
设空处承上启下,B项“To fight family laziness, set an example.(要对抗家庭懒惰,就要树立榜样。)” 该项中的“set an example”与下文的“follow your example”呼应。
5.C 主旨句。本空位于段首,类似小标题,下文“Enough exercise and a balanced diet can help you to develop a healthy lifestyle(足够的运动和均衡的饮食可以帮助你养成健康的生活方式)”对其进行解释。故C项“Finally, taking exercise regularly can help you fight laziness.(最后,定期锻炼可以帮助你战胜懒惰。)”
趋势 4.contribute to是……的原因之一 5.in charge of负责;掌管
1.B 根据下文“Soon the angry, red rash (皮疹) covered nearly 97% of her body at times and could be extremely uncomfortable.”
2.D 根据下一句“People would stop and stare at her in the street”可知,令Giorgia最痛苦的是别人对待她的方式——停下来盯着她看,所以用how引导表语从句。
3.C 根据上文“At the age of 13, Giorgia began to suffer a severe skin disorder”可知,她有严重的皮肤病,因此人们会认为她很丑而停下来看她。
5.B 根据上文内容可知,Giorgia患有严重的皮肤病,再结合下文“Unexpectedly, Giorgia also lost her father.”
7.A 根据“They were so close when she was growing up”可知,在成长过程中Giorgia与她的父亲关系很亲密,所以她难以忍受失去他。 故选A。
8.A 根据下文“She could shrink back from what she received or she could find the 9 to love herself and the way she was made.” 故选A。
9.A 根据上文“Fortunately, Giorgia had a strong and beautiful spirit inside.” 故选A。
10.D 根据“It was part of who she was.”
break down出故障;get out 泄露;cope with处理;cover up掩盖。
故选A。
14.C 联系前文“She knew the condition was 4 her life.”
15.B 结合前文内容尤其是“She could shrink back from what she received or she could find the 9 to love herself and the way she was made.”
