Hungarian Jewish activist Rezs Kasztner, a brilliant, self confident lawyer and journalist, was directly responsible for liberating 1,684 Jews on a train to Switzerland.
Struggling to save the Hungarian Jews, by the war ended, he had preserved some 100,000 more lives by bargaining (讨价还价) with the Nazis, including Adolf Eichmann and Kurt Becher among other officers. He did this by making use of the Nazi weaknesses of greed and need for goods. Kasztner offered money, jewelry and the promise of war materiel (物资) that he knew could never be delivered in exchange for Jewish lives. He and the other activists were able to save only a small number of their people, as nearly half a million Hungarians.
Jews were sent to Auschwitz to be killed in just a few months. The selection of those who were saved, especially on the train, had bothered Kasztner ever since.
After the war, Kasztner and his family emigrated to Israel, where he expected to be welcomed as a hero. Instead, they found tension between settlers and refugees (难民), and because Kasztner had to pretend to make friends with the Nazis, he was attacked as a Nazi collaborator (勾结者). When he charged one of his accusers [a man who was jealous (嫉妒的) of him back in Hungary] with libel (诽谤罪), the judge ruled against him because of the struggle for power between the political parties in Israel.
The real Rezs Kasztner was an extraordinary man who played a high risk game with the devil. And he won in the only game of saving human lives. He achieved more in his way than any other individual in Nazi occupied Europe. In the end all he lost was his own life.
4.What can we learn about Rezso Kasztner from the passage
A.He once worked on a train in Switzerland.
B.He was famous as a lawyer and journalist throughout Europe.
C.He devoted himself to saving Jewish people during the war.
D.He made a lot of money by trading with the Nazi officers.

A.To receive a hero’s welcome.
B.To be sheltered by the Nazis.
C.To get more support.
D.To save more people.
6.Why did the court rule against Kasztner in Israel
A.Because he was a Nazi collaborator.
B.Because he defended the Nazis as a lawyer.
C.Because he declared the law of Israel unjust.
D.Because he got caught in Israeli political conflict.
7.What is the passage mainly about
A.A man’s heroic deeds in saving Hungarian Jews.
B.The crimes committed by the Nazis.
C.The darkness of Nazi occupied Europe.
D.People’s different views about heroes.

Recently,Big Think asked top minds from a variety of fields to comment on what the future holds 30 years from now. The result is as follows.
It’s likely that by 2050 the majority of the people in the world will live in urban (城市的) areas, and will have a much higher average age than people today. The urban theorist Richard Florida thinks urbanization will reinvent the education system of the United States, making our economy less real estate driven and erasing(消除) the divisions between home and work.
And rapidly advancing technology will continue ever more rapidly. Cities of the future won’t look like “some sort of science fiction fantasy”, but it’s likely that technological advances and information overlays (VR and AR) will greatly change how we live. Self driving cars will make the roads safer and provide faster transport. A larger version of driverless cars—driverless trucks—may make long distance drivers out of date.
Some long view predictions are completely dire. Environmentalist Bill McKibben says that if we don’t make great progress in fighting global warming, it’s likely that we could see out of control rises in sea level, huge crop shortfalls, and wars over limited freshwater resources.
In terms of how we will eat, green markets founder and “real food” supporter Nina Planck believes that there will be more small milk processing plants, and more regional food operations and that we’ll be healthier as a result. The New York Times’s feature writer Mark Bittman thinks that people will eat fewer processed foods, and eat foods grown closer to where they live. And Anson Mills founder Glenn Roberts thinks that more people will be aware of the “ethical(道德的) responsibility” to grow and preserve land raised farm systems.
8.What may happen by 2050
A.Most people will live in cities.
B.The aging population will drop.
C.Home education will become a trend.
D.The economy will be driven by real estate.
9.What do we know about technology in the future
A.It will give cities a science fiction appearance.
B.It will greatly change the way people live.
C.It will lead to an increase in the number of cars.
D.It will ensure faster transport with fast cars.
10.What does the underlined word “dire” in the fourth paragraph mean
A.Interesting. B.Daring.
C.Creative. D.Terrible.
11.What does Mark Bittman think of foods in the future
A.People will eat healthier and fresher foods.
B.Land raised farm systems will be improved.
C.There will be more regional food operations.
D.Food supplies will become more limited than before.
D
Interspecies was once a technical term used in science to describe how one species got along with another. Now it is a word of more consequence: it arouses the new connections between humans and non humans that are being made possible by technology. In Ways of Being, James Bridle, a British artist and technology writer, explores what this means for understanding the non human intelligence on Earth.
Mr Bridle makes it clear that three kinds of minds are now interacting: humans, non humans and machines. Using artificial intelligence (AI), machines in the future will have the capability to interpose (使介入) themselves as translators between humans and other biological life forms.
It is true that profit is the main motive for advances in AI; as yet nature does not get much of a look in, and non human intelligence goes unexplored outside zoology puting is as focused on humans as ever, even as climate change and biodiversity loss suggest it should devote much greater attention to other species.
The first step towards an interspecies future, Mr Bridle argues, is showing more appreciation for other forms of intelligence. To some extent, this is already happening. For example, through films and other initiatives many people now know that octopuses (章鱼) have advanced and strange intelligence. The next step, Mr Bridle declares, is recognizing that people live in a “more than human” world. Other forms of intelligence have developed from a common evolutionary base, and they overlap (重叠) in ways that science is just beginning to discover.
Ways of Being would have benefited from sharper editing. Yet, in making clear the patience, imagination and humility required to better know and protect other forms of intelligence on Earth, he has made an admirable contribution to the dawning of the interspecies age.
12.Which of the following best illustrates the term “interspecies”
A.A wolf hunts a rabbit.
B.A robot does housework.
C.A lady walks her dog.
D.A boy records a video for squirrels.
13.What does AI lay emphasis on nowadays
A.Biodiversity.
B.Other species.
C.Humans.
D.Climate change.
14.What is Paragraph 4 mainly about
A.The characteristics of species evolution.
B.Expectations for the future development of AI.
C.Suggestions on future exploration of interspecies.
D.The importance of appreciation for other forms of intelligence.
15.Which word best describes the author’s attitude to Ways of Being
A.Skeptical. B.Favorable.
C.Tolerant. D.Conservative.

ChatGPT, launched in November, 2022, has attracted over 100 million monthly users in just two months, which is considered the fastest growing consumer app. 16
ChatGPT can write emails, computer code, even academic papers and poems. 17 With various functions, it is suspected to do no good to multiple areas, above all the higher education.
So is ChatGPT a benefit or a trouble
18 Some universities have banned it due to the warning that it could prompt more students to cheat, especially in exams. 19 Andreas Schleicher, director of education and skills of the Organization for Economic Co operation and Development, for instance, said he welcomes ChatGPT because “it gives people a chance” to concentrate less on tasks that technology can perform equally well.
According to a survey covering more than 100 educators and over 1,000 students, one third of the educators said they believe ChatGPT should be banned in schools and universities, while the rest supported students in having access to it. The attitude of most students sees a distinct difference. 20
As a result, the observed value and usefulness of ChatGPT seem to outweigh the risks. What we should focus on has shifted to better dealing with the chatbot and its development.

B.The answers vary greatly across the world.
C.Also, it has succeeded in passing different kinds of exams.
D.By comparison, others regard it as a blessing rather than a curse.

A Surprise Job
Tiegan always liked to sing. Her earliest memories all have songs in them. Tiegan liked to sing in the bathtub when she was getting ready for bed, and she liked to sing in the morning while she walked to school.
Sometimes, though, Tiegan’s family liked the house to be quiet. Mom liked to solve crossword puzzles, and Dad liked to watch the news on TV each night. “It’s quiet time, Tiegan,” they would say. Then Tiegan had to find something else to do. She had plenty of puzzles and games, but she didn’t like them as much as singing.
One summer day, Tiegan was singing her favorite songs in the living room, Dad came downstairs and said, “Tiegan, I have a headache. Can you go outside and play I really need it to be quiet so I can take a nap.”
Tiegan sighed and went outside. It was a sunny day, and many people were outside riding bikes and walking their dogs. She sat on the roadside and looked around. Then she started to hum(哼歌). She was careful to be quiet at first, but soon the humming turned to singing. “Dad probably can’t hear me anyway,” she thought,“so it’s probably okay to sing outside.”
The sun was very warm, and Tiegan took off her baseball cap. Now she could feel a cool breeze across her forehead, which felt nice. She dropped her hat on the sidewalk and kept singing.
Just as Tiegan finished one of her favorite songs, a man with a small dog stopped in front of her. “That was a beautiful song,” he said. And he dropped a dollar into her hat. Before Tiegan could say something, the man walked away with his dog.
Tiegan wasn’t sure what to do with the dollar, but she did want to keep singing. As she started her next song, their neighbor Mrs. Maudslay came out of her house and looked over the fence.
注意: 续写词数应为150左右。
Paragraph 1:
“Are you busking(街头卖艺), Tiegan ” Mrs. Maudslay asked.
Paragraph 2:
By the end of the afternoon, Tiegan’s hat was full.

43.aiming 考查现在分词。句中第二个and后的分句已有谓语动词began,设空处应用非谓语动词形式作状语;aim与其逻辑主语the country为主动关系,应用现在分词。故填aiming。
44.a 考查冠词。a total of为固定短语,表示“总计”,故填a。
45.have been launched 考查动词的时态、语态和主谓一致。根据空前的Since 2000可知应用现在完成时;主语a total of 59 satellites与launch构成被动关系,故应用现在完成时的被动语态,且主语为复数形式,故填have been launched。

第二节
One possible version:
Paragraph 1:
“Are you busking(街头卖艺), Tiegan ” Mrs. Maudslay asked. “No. I’m just playing and singing,” answered Tiegan. “I think the man must have mistaken me as a street performer, because I have my hat out there. It is really funny,” Tiegan added. She hadn’t meant to start a new job, but since her hat was already out, she decided to keep singing. Soon enough, people walked past and stopped to listen. When they were ready to move on, they dropped some money into her hat.
Paragraph 2:
By the end of the afternoon, Tiegan’s hat was full. Tiegan felt happy, because she not only got a lot of unexpected dollars, but she also proved that her songs were recognized by people. Singing didn’t feel like work to her, but it was certainly a good way to earn money. It suddenly occurred to her that with this money, she could take Mom and Dad out for ice cream just as soon as Dad was feeling better. After all, her singing had disturbed the peace of their home for so long.
