The Internet plays a big part in human life. We use it for work and entertainment. We use it to learn a new language. We find advice on it. We use it to connect with family and friends. We use it to stay in touch with events we care about. The list goes on and on.
As far as the Internet being a part of our lives, well, that train has left the station. This expression means there is no going back to an Internet-free life. But can using the Internet too much be bad for our health It might be, say researchers. A new study finds that heavy Internet use may be connected to high blood pressure(血压) in a young group: teenagers.
The study results show that teens who spend at least 14 hours a week on the Internet may have high blood pressure, which makes hearts and blood vessels(血管) work too hard. Over time, this extra pressure increases your risk of a heart attack. High blood pressure can also cause heart and other diseases.
The Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, Michigan did the study. 335 young people, from 14 to 17 years old, took part in it. 134 of the teens were described as “Internet addicts”. And researchers found that out of these 134 teens, 26 had high blood pressure. The researchers say the study is the first to connect heavy web use with high blood pressure.
The lead researcher is Andrea Cassidy Bushrow. She says, “Using the Internet is part of our daily life, but it shouldn’t ruin us.” Ms. Cassidy Bushrow adds that it is important for teens to take regular breaks from their computers or mobile phones and do some kind of physical activity. She also suggests that parents shouldn’t let their children use the Internet for more than two hours a day.

(2023甘肃兰州校考阶段练习)
You’ve probably noticed that new emojis show up on your phone every year. 1 This year is no different. If you have an Android device, you may have used a new emoji such as a melting face. Other devices, such as Apple products, will have these emojis soon.
The updates come from a California-based nonprofit called Unicode Consortium. Each year, the emoji committee releases new emojis that will update the existing keyboard. 2 “It’s important for people to understand that we’re not inventing language and that it’s really the people who create it and are inventive,” says Jennifer Daniel, chair of the committee.
3 He created emojis because the mobile phone company where he worked offered email communications that were limited to 250 characters and the emoji is only one character each but can be used to say more. Emojis have since become popular around the world.
Anyone is allowed to make a proposal for a new emoji. Unicode Consortium gets proposals in lots of different languages from around the world. If the proposal is strong enough, Unicode Consortium will accept it. 4
The process does not simply involve coming up with something that doesn’t have an emoji representing it. An emoji idea has to meet certain criteria(标准). These criteria include its uniqueness—whether it can be used with existing emojis and whether it can have lots of meanings. 5 You can pair it with many other emojis to express how you are feeling. Additionally, this emoji has adopted many meanings.

A.The keyboard has acquired more than 3,600 emoji characters.
B.Emojis aren’t tied to any languages or any regions of the world.
C.But it’s not the organization that comes up with these new characters.
D.And it can take up to two years to create and release the new emoji.
E.The “tears of joy” emoji, for example, is special and easy to identify.
F.The first emoji keyboard was created by designer Shigetaka Kurita.
G.For example, the ninja emoji was introduced in 2020, or the yawning face in 2019.

(2023江苏连云港统考期中)
阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
John, whose parents were addicted to alcohol, was always failing in exams. Although he had been failing every year, he was still passed on from grade to grade and now he was a student of the seventh grade. John was tall, but he went completely unnoticed by the school teachers until Miss Smith.
Miss Smith loved to smile, young and beautiful. John liked her. Despite this, he still continued to fail. He never did his homework, and he was always in trouble with Miss Smith. When he was punished for failing to hand in his homework, he felt just sad! Still, he did not study.
In the middle of the first semester of school, the entire seventh grade was tested for basic skills. John hurried through his test, and continued to dream of other things. His heart was not in school. At home, no one checked on John to see if he was safe. No one knew whether he was even at home because no one cared. However, John never missed a day of school.
One day, Miss Smith’s impatient voice broke his daydreams.
“John!” Shocked, he turned to look at her.
“Pay attention!”
John looked at his teacher, as she began to go over the test results for the seventh grade.
“You all did pretty well,” she told the class, “except for one boy. It breaks my heart to tell you this, but...” she hesitated, and started staring at John.
“...The smartest boy in the seventh grade is failing my class!”
She just stared at John and John dropped his eyes. However, John still wouldn’t do his homework. Even as the punishments became severe, he remained stubborn.
“Just try it! ONE WEEK!” He was unmoved.
“Give yourself a chance. Don’t give up!” Nothing changed him.
“John! Please! I care about you!”
Wow! Suddenly, John got it! Someone cared about him Unbelievable! John went home from school, thoughtful. Walking into the house, he found his parents drunk as expected. He quickly packed his camping gear(露营装备), a loaf of bread, a bottle of water, and for the first time, his schoolbooks. Determined, he headed for the woods.
注意:续写词数应为150左右。
