When I was in middle school, I was on a family vacation in Washington DC. I found there was a homeless man down the street.
On our final day in the city, when my parents went for an evening walk, I went out of our hotel room and ran down the street to the homeless man.
He looked at me, surely not expecting anything from a middle school girl. I asked him what he wanted to have for dinner. He replied "Bread and water". I ran into the store and bought a big bag of bread and a bottle of water. I ran back with a smile on my face and handed the bag and the bottle to him. His smile has been in my mind ever since.
I came back to the hotel room and when my parents returned, my dad told me he had a story for me. He asked if I remembered the homeless man down the street from our hotel and I shyly nodded. He then told me a story. As they were returning from their walk, they saw the homeless man was sharing a bag full of food with other homeless people around. They were all smiling and laughing as they ate.
I smiled at my dad but I have never told him to this day the other half of the story. Till today, I still haven't forgotten that man's smile but I wish I had the courage to do this more often. One small kind action can begin a ripple effect(连锁反应)of kindness. So please, share a smile and do something kind for the people in need.
24.Why did the author go to Washington DC

26.It can be inferred from the passage that____
A.homeless men usually live a happy life
B.the author's father was proud of her
C.the author kept a secret to her parents
D.the author was paid back by the homeless man
27.The story inspires the readers to ____

C.value what they have D.face difficulties bravely

There are many ways to travel within a city. We can walk, cycle or take a bus. But no matter which way we travel, we have to follow the route the city planners made for us.
Parkour (跑酷) practitioners, however, see the city in a completely different way. To them, there are no fixed routes. There are no walls and no stairs — since they jump, climb, roll and crawl to move across, through, over and under anything that they find in their path. The city is their playground.
The International Gymnastics Federation (FIG) has noticed that this activity is attracting more and more people to it — there are 100,000 people taking part in parkour today in the UK alone, according to The Guardian — and how it is helpful for people to be much stronger: It trains coordination (协调) and balance. So, the organization is thinking about recognizing parkour as a new sport and adding it to the 2024 Olympics.
However, parkour practitioners themselves don't seem to be happy with the idea. They see parkour as "a lifestyle", wrote the website Next Sport Star. "It's a competition against the conditions rather than just a sport."
Indeed, many do parkour just to "escape the daily routine and experience the city in different ways", wrote reporter Oli Mould on The Conversation. They see parkour as a way to express themselves through relaxing moves and creative routes while freeing themselves from the pressure.
It's great that the FIG wants to develop a new sport and stay close to a new cultural form. But it would be greater if they knew that not everything in life is a competition.
28.How do the parkour practitioners travel within the city
A.By following fixed routes. B.By cycling.
C.By using their own ways. D.By taking a bus.
29.What does FIG think of parkour
A.It is a dangerous sport.
B.It should be an Olympic sport.
C.It is becoming a normal sport.
D.It can become a healthy sport.
30.What can we learn from the fourth paragraph
A.Parkour is a lifestyle in the practitioners' eyes.
B.Parkour is a daily routine for the reporter.
C.Parkour is already an Olympic sport.
D.Parkour should follow the designed ways.
31.What is the writer's attitude toward parkour
A.Negative. B.Unconcerned. C.Worried. D.Objective.

Whales are important animals in the sea. The organizations of the world are calling all nations not to kill or eat whales any more. But Japan's new whaling(捕鲸) plan is a great danger to the living of these large animals. It will also do harm to the sea interests (利益) of other surrounding countries including China, experts said.
After the Japanese government made its decision clear on Nov. 8, 2016 to catch 100 more whales in 2017, many animal experts in the world voiced their angry answers. According to a Japan News report, Japan caught 174 minke whales and 140 sei whales totally in the northwest Pacific Ocean in 2017.
"After years of overfishing(过度捕捞), the population of minke whales in the northwest Pacific Ocean has been reduced to a dangerous level. Therefore, Japan should stop whaling in the area," said Wang Yaming, a leader of the International Whaling Organization. According to Wang, most whales living in the northwest Pacific Ocean are migratory(迁徙的)animals, and their traveling way is very close to the land of Russia, South Korea, North Korea, Japan and China. Japan's whaling will also have a terrible influence on those countries.
Although the world has stopped to catch and kill whales, Japan lies to others that its killing of whales is just for scientific purposes. However, many experts don't agree with it completely. "Japan should not kill more whales, as doing so would harm the international whale resources(资源). Japan's whaling in the northwest Pacific Ocean hasn't drawn much more attention because it hardly influences the interests of western countries." Wang explained.

As he lay awake that night, Tony could hear his parents discussing his sister Alice's birthday. It was just two days away. Birthdays were always a lot of fun, even though there was no money for store-bought gifts. Nearly all of toys he and his sister had were homemade. There was nothing wrong with that, he knew. Like many families in this part, they were poor.
This birthday would be different, though. Alice was older now, and he'd seen how her eyes lit up when she saw the new doll at Honey House, a neighborhood store just down the road from their house.
How he longed(渴望)for her to have it! An idea finally came to him just before he went to bed. After a quick breakfast the following morning, he tied a bag to the handlebars of his bike and headed toward a village hill.
After a long journey, he reached his destination, the mango forest. There were already two other boys there. Tony grabbed his bag and set to work immediately.
The sun was high overhead. The weather was hot and nearly all of the taller trees held ripe mangoes but they were well beyond reach. Tony struggled to climb the trees to pick mangoes, though he fell off many times.
His efforts were sometimes rewarded when a mango dropped into the bag. After a while his neck ached from looking upward, and his arms grew sore(酸的). He kept at it, though, and by late afternoon his bag was nearly full.
注意:1. 所续写短文的词数应为150左右。2. 续写部分分两段,每段的开头语已为你写好。
Paragraph 1:
Tony rushed back to Honey House, out of breath, only to find the owner of the store was going to close the door.

【答案】28.C
29.B

It is really high time for Japan to stop its whaling from now on.

A.Surprised. B.Interested. C.Happy. D.Angry.

A.About 240. B.About 274. C.About 314. D.About 414.
34.Which of the following statements is true according to the passage
A.Whales travel far from the land of Japan when they are migrating.
B.Near the land of China, people could not find any whales at all.
C.Overfishing made certain whales in the northwest Pacific Ocean fewer.
D.Japan's whaling has nothing to do with the neighboring countries.

八、第四部分,写作,第二节(满分25分)
67.(2023高二上·青冈开学考) 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
Paragraph 2:
The following morning, Alice walked into the kitchen and took a seat at the breakfast table.
【答案】Paragraph 1:
Tony rushed back to Honey House, out of breath, only to find the owner of the store was going to close the door. Seeing Tony, he told him to come the next day. But Tony didn't give up and explained all to the owner. Hearing Tony's explanation, the owner opened the bag to check the mangoes. To Tony's disappointment, they were not enough to exchange a lovely doll. He was walking out with tears rolling down his face when the owner stopped him and finally agreed because of his love for his sister. After giving many thanks, Tony got his sister a dream present.
Paragraph 2:
The following morning, Alice walked into the kitchen and took a seat at the breakfast table. She noticed a beautiful box on the table. Curious, she opened the box carefully. To her great surprise, she found the doll she had been dreaming of for a long time. When Tony said happy birthday to her, Alice couldn't help crying and hugged him tightly. Touched by the warm atmosphere, their parents smiled with pleasure, knowing their son had grown up and was reliable enough to take care of his sister.
