After a long day at the office, Jane Hodgson was on her way home and looking forward
to relaxing with a nice cup of tea. While driving, she noticed that there was a car pulled over
at the side of the road and a crowd had started to gather around someone who was lying on the
ground.
Jane, who had completed first aid at the work course with the British Red Cross, pulled
over to see if she could do something and it turned out to be lucky for the victim.
Describing the scene she saw, Jane says, “A crowd of onlookers gathered at the scene. A
couple of young men were cream-faced and looking lost. They were completely terrified.
When I walked up, first-aid kit in hand, they said, ‘You’re a first aider — Oh thank goodness.’
They were so shocked that they hadn’t even thought to call an ambulance yet.”
A young girl called Jenny was lying there. It turned out that the teen had been hit by a car
and gone over the handlebars of her bike, landing on her head and shoulder.
“I was worried because she had not been wearing a helmet when she got knocked down,
and I thought that she should not be moved as I couldn’t be sure about a spinal (脊柱) injury,
but after looking her over, in relief, I felt fairly confident that she had escaped relatively
unharmed. Even so, as time passed and we continued to wait for an ambulance, the amount of
pain the girl was in was increasing. To avoid the risk of her going into shock I kept her talking.
We chatted about her boyfriend and anything I could think of to keep her mind off the pain.
She squeezed (捏) my hand when the pain got too much and this helped,” describes Jane.

Thinking back, Jane says, “I never did find out what happened to the girl. Apart from the
boyfriend I wasn’t thanked by anyone else, but that’s OK. For me, knowing that in a small
way I helped that girl through what was a frightening experience is all the reward I need. It
felt great to know I’d made a difference.”
24.What was Jane doing when she came across the accident
A. Driving home. B. Repairing her car.
C. Drinking some tea. D. Going to the first aid course.
25. Which part of Jenny’s body might be worst injured
A. Her legs. B. Her hands.
C. Her head. D. Her stomach.
26. What mattered most in Jane’s help
A. Calling an ambulance. B. Offering some first aid.
C. Contacting the girl’s boyfriend. D. Keeping the girl awake.
27. What did Jane Hodgson learn from her experience of helping Jenny
A. Not all kindness needs reward. B. First aid can save lives.
C. A small act can make a difference. D. It felt good to learn first aid skills.

Life is hard-even harder than anyone thought it would be. When you were younger, you
dreamed of the world being your playground, and you were told that you could do anything
and be anyone you wanted. Somehow, though, things haven’t been the smooth sailing that
you wanted them to be. The world seems to go against you, and the last thing you want to hear
is “Cheer up!”
Still, there’s a couple of things you might not notice about your situation. Next time
you’re down, maybe the following will provide motivation.
Firstly, not everything is bad. It’s a well-accepted fact that bad news makes for
sensational (极好的) television ratings. The fact is that something negative catches a lot more
attention than something positive, and that’s because it’s easy to see things in a negative light.
However, that shouldn’t distract you from the bigger picture.
Resist the tunnel vision that results from constant negativity. Remember that even though
there’s lots of really nasty stuff going on, you’re surrounded by some pretty awesome stuff as
well.
You should also remember other people aren’t you. No one likes being compared to
another person. What makes it even worse, if that’s even possible, is when you do it to
第 5页/共 12页
{#{QQABQYaUogCgQBBAAAhCQwFwCAMQkBCCCIoOgAAEsAABQRFABAA=}#}
yourself.
Stop comparing yourself to another person and you’ll realize that you’re much more
awesome than you give yourself credit for.
Lastly, failure isn’t where the game stops. So you tried something new, but you didn’t
follow through. Frustrated at yourself, you stop trying. As a result, your quality of life goes
down terribly. You’ve given up on it, though, because you don’t see the point (since you failed
the first time).
Now, you’re an adult. The things you are trying are much more complicated than
five-year-old you. However, your behaviour shouldn’t change in the slightest-when you fail
in something, that’s just more information in your data bank. You know that method doesn’t
work, so try another one! And another one after that! Do this until you figure it out. Giving up
is for losers, and you sure aren’t one of those.
28. The author mentioned bad news in order to show that _____________.
A. bad news makes people see things in a negative light
B. bad news is more likely to catch people’s eyes
C. bad news attracts people to see positive things
D. bad news has a negative effect on television ratings
29. What does the underlined part “nasty stuff” in Para. 4 probably mean
A. Unstable emotions. B. Important events.
C. Amazing incidents . D. Something unpleasant.
30. How should we view failure according to the passage
A. We will change our behaviour.
B. We will keep trying the old method.
C. We should learn from failure.
D. We should think in a more complicated way.
31. What is the passage mainly about
A. It inspires us to learn from negative experiences.
B. It compares negative and positive experiences.
C. It criticizes those who are affected by bad experiences.
D. It discusses how negative experiences affect others.
D
Artificial intelligence has become a part of our lives, changing the way we live, work,
and interact. AI systems are capable of processing vast amounts of data, analyzing patterns,

and producing valuable insights and have changed various industries.
In the field of healthcare, AI-powered systems can help doctors and researchers a lot,
reducing waiting times for test results and identifying patterns and trends that can be used to
more accurately diagnose and treat patients. AI can identify data patterns in minutes or even
seconds that would otherwise take a doctor or researcher weeks or even months. By analyzing
patient data from around the world, AI can identify some diseases that may not be known
before. And this exchange of knowledge can lead to more accurate diagnoses, better
treatments, and improved cure effects.
In the education field, professors and teachers across the world are faced with AI
revolution and know what it means for them and their students. How many students will save
time and energy by having AI write their essays and assignments rather than writing them
themselves Will teachers and professors use AI to create their own lesson plans and
assignments And we can see a rise of new anti-cheating tools and apps to fight against the
essays created by AI.
Like any new technology, there is a certain amount of fear and a lot of questions to be
answered on the use, exchange, advantages and disadvantages of AI, but one thing seems clear:
By offering more access to information and services, AI can help create a more equal and
better society.
Chinese civilization is one of the oldest civilizations in human history and is still
flourishing today. The combination of AI and Chinese cultural heritage will not only open up
new paths for the development of AI technology, but will also bring new opportunities for the
development of Chinese civilization.
32. In what way can AI-powered systems help doctors and researchers
A. Analyzing patient data worldwide.
B. Shortening time for medical test.
C. Identifying data patterns in a longer time.
D. Making accurate dialogues with patients.
33. What can we learn from the questions in paragraph 3
A. Professors and teachers are against the use of AI.
B. Teachers and professors will use AI to give lessons.
C. More anti-cheating tools and apps should be developed.
D. Students might use AI to finish their writing tasks.
34. Which of the following statements is TRUE according to the passage
A. AI will bring us more advantages than disadvantages.
第 7页/共 12页
{#{QQABQYaUogCgQBBAAAhCQwFwCAMQkBCCCIoOgAAEsAABQRFABAA=}#}
B. There is no need to worry about the use of AI.
C. AI can provide us with free access to information and services.
D. AI has the potential to create a more fair and better society.
35. What is the author’s attitude to the combination of AI and Chinese cultural heritage
A. Disapproving. B. Supportive. C. Curious. D. Indifferent.

Before practising getting to know yourself, it’s important to be open to whatever you find.
36 However, once you’re armed with an accepting attitude, you will find the process
of self-discovery enjoyable and exciting.
Get to know your personality
You can understand your personality by reflection. 37 . Put down the past events
that have shaped your future self, especially your early life experiences. Often, what we go
through as children plays a key role in creating patterns, preferences and needs for the future.
38
When we think about self-knowledge, it’s easy to focus on the psychological (心理的) at
the expense of the physical. However, getting to know your body is just as important as
getting to know your mind. Learning more about your body helps you to set realistic goals and
know your own limits, as well as helping you feel more comfortable.
Identify your strengths and weaknesses
Getting to know yourself is all about developing a real picture of who you are, including
the parts you are proud of and the parts that you struggle with from time to time. Think about
what you like about yourself, and which parts of yourself get the most positive feedback (反
馈 ). 39 , ask yourself whether there are common themes in your failures or in
disappointing times of your life.
Question your automatic (自动的) thoughts
Many of us have a tendency to experience automatic thoughts that are negative. If you
don’t know yourself very well, you may just accept these negative thoughts. You may then
feel bad about yourself. However, when you have higher levels of self-awareness, you can
catch these thoughts as they come up and redirect them to more positive thoughts. 40 .

Have you ever heard of and seen Canadian geese Do you know that they 41 fresh

Canadian geese have a good 42 for their politeness. They always bow down to you
whenever you walk by. However, I have recently found that they can sometimes be 43
to their peers, especially on occasions when they quarrel for food——yes, these 44
gentlemen do quarrel, just for something to eat.
Yesterday I witnessed two Canadian Geese arguing 45 for a clump(草丛 ) of
beautiful fresh grass. The clump was 46 right in the middle of them, while the two
were shouting noisily, stretching their necks as long as they could to look aggressively at each
other. It’s 47 to witness the “impolite” side of Canadian geese. Hence, I couldn’t help
48 my morning walk, standing still to watch these “gentlemen” quarreling. Interestingly,
after a short while, a truck roared past their feast, disturbing their 49 conversation.
The two geese were equally 50 by the massive “monster”, thus giving up their
conversation.
Would they start quarreling again I stood still, 51 the ridiculous question and
waited. Beyond my expectation, right after the truck’s passing by, the two geese immediately
lost their 52 for quarreling as if they had forgotten all about what had happened. Even
the two turned around and left the 53 in opposite directions as if nothing had happened.
They left only me there, imagining what might have happened without the 54 .

In the first and second grades, I was extremely shy. I had friends, but it just wasn’t in my
personality to be very outgoing, even if I knew someone well. I was even quieter with
strangers, so I wasn’t very good at meeting new people. I was afraid that I would do or say
something wrong. In our school’s annual grand play, I usually sat in a quiet corner to watch
the performance alone.
One day in the third grade, my teacher Mrs.Sally called me into her office and said, “Oh,
Mary, you’re great at memorizing things, and you have such a sweet personality. Perfect for
Jenny!” But I bent my head and dared not speak. The teacher saw this and then said, “Of
course, plenty of girls would love the role, and I could find somebody else. But I hope you
might try for me. I had you in mind for Jenny while writing the play! If you really don’t want
to, I won’t force you. It’s your choice.”
My mind was spinning (转动) faster than the windmill(风车) on the school playground.
Mrs. Sally, whom I loved and admired, wanted me to play this role. She believed in me. My
eyes moved across the room to a poster I had never noticed before. It showed a shooting star
and read, “If you reach for the stars, you might at least grab a piece of the moon.” I looked
into Mrs. Sally’s shining blue eyes and said, “Okay, I’ll try.” I realized it was time to throw off

An Exhibition of Traditional Chinese Paintings
Aiming to enrich students’ school life and stimulate interest in traditional culture, our school has decided to hold an exhibition of traditional Chinese paintings in our stadium.
As scheduled, the exhibition lasts 7 days, from March8 to 14, during which a wide variety of our students’ works about different subjects are on display. Frankly speaking, the moment I entered the hall, I was spellbound by their fantastic works. Furthermore, the professional narration enabled me to have a deep understanding of the Chinese paintings.
So meaningful and fascinating is the exhibition that I strongly recommend anyone who has a passion for traditional Chinese paintings should come to experience it in person.

As scheduled, the exhibition was held on October 6 in our school lecture hall, lasting for a week, during which a wide variety of our students’ exhibits(展品) were on display.
The exhibition provides us with a great opportunity to have a close contact with the authentic works, through which some of our interest in traditional Chinese painting will definitely be sparked. Besides, the exhibition is without doubt of vital significance to promote your sense of beauty. (观展的整体感受)

Writing 2
The big day came at last. I jogged all the way to the backstage area of the school hall. Cameras were lighting up in all directions. Looking back on the five months of practice, I seemed to have confidence in myself. I found a new person inside me, a much more daring and outgoing person who had been hidden all along. However, when I was about to go on stage, my heart was pounding hard, my throat tightened and my knees felt weak.
At that time, Mrs. Sally came backstage for her final check-up and noticed my nervousness. “It doesn’t matter how you do tonight,” she said. “You’ve already shown how wonderful you are.” Looking into Mrs. Sally’s shining blue eyes, I calmed down and then walked onto the stage with her warm words inside me like a ray of sunshine. When I finished my performance, the audience burst into applause. The scene made me feel like I was floating in an ocean of happiness. It dawned on me that it was the encouragement from my teacher that helped me find my confidence. I believed I’d already reached for the stars.
