C(2021·浙江温州期末)
Gardening is a popular activity all around the world. But what about people who do not have the space to garden Not to worry! Today, we will give you information about growing beautiful window boxes.
Location and safety
Window boxes are not just for the outside edge of the window, but they can sit on other places such as walls, porches(门廊), or front steps. A window box can be on the front steps to a home and the owners can enter their window boxes.
But safety first: People do get killed by falling window boxes. Make sure your window boxes are safe and they will not come down in a storm. If you feel your window box could be unsafe, you can have an indoor window box.
Light and water
Before you choose plants, check the location of your window box for light and rain. Plants in window boxes dry out faster than in-ground plants, so they need more water. And if a window box is close to a wall, it may not get enough rainwater.
Even if all your windows get little sun, do not give up. You can get a great look using plants that love shade. Many shade-loving plants, like verbenas(马鞭草), have leaves in beautiful colors and interesting shapes.
The "wow" factors
What gives some window boxes their "wow" factors while others are just so-so Create a theme(主题)! This is a central idea for the plants. For example, you may have a window box that is all cactuses(仙人掌) or all edible plants. You could select only purple violets(紫罗兰) or green basil(罗勒), then you'll have a color-themed window box.
Besides having a theme, upkeep is also important. You should cut off anything dead, water your window boxes often and change things a lot.
( )27.Before creating a window box, people should first think about .
A. the space to garden B. the possible danger
C. the choice of plants D. the outdoor temperature
( )28.Which of the following plants will you grow if your windows get little sun
A. Basil. B. Cactuses.
C. Violets. D. Verbenas.
( )29.What does the underlined word "upkeep" probably mean in the passage
A. Study. B. Care. C. Prepare. D. Research.
( )30.Which of the following is TRUE according to the passage
A. Window boxes need a lot of sunshine.
B. A nice window box needs a central idea.
C. Window boxes can be just on the windows.
D. Window box plants need less water than in-ground ones.
D(2021·广东深圳中考)
Can plants talk Modern research has found something amazing: they do communicate with each other.
It has been known for some time that plants use chemicals to communicate with each other. This happens when a plant gets attacked by insects. The plant gives out chemicals from the leaves that are being eaten. This is like a warning, or a call for help:"I'm being attacked!"When another plant gets the chemicals, it starts to give out its own, different chemicals. Some of these chemicals drive insects away. Others attract the wasps (黄蜂)! The wasps kill the insects that are eating the plants. Scientists hope to learn more about this plant warning system, so that we can use it to grow more crops.
More surprisingly, plants also use sound to communicate. People can't hear these sounds, but plants are making them. Some plants make noises with their roots. Corn and chili plants do this. Some trees make clicking noises when there is not enough water.
Most surprisingly of all, plants have an amazing system of communication that can link nearly every plant in a forest. Scientists call this system the"wood wide web". The wood wide web is linked underground by fungi (真菌). It links the roots of different plants to each other. It is in some ways similar to the Internet we use. Using the wood wide web, plants can share information and even food with each other. However, it may lead to bad effects. Plants may use it to steal food from each other, or spread chemicals to attack other plants. Perhaps one day scientists will learn how to create a "firewall" to help prevent these attacks within the wood wide web.
Scientists are learning more every day about the secret ways in which plants talk to each other. Maybe one day we will know enough about plant communication to be able to "talk" with them ourselves.
( )31.What will plants do when they are attacked by insects
A. They will kill the insects by themselves.
B. They will control the wasps to kill the insects.
C. They will send out light to ask for help.
D. They will produce chemicals as a warning or a call for help.
( )32.How is the wood wide web linked by fungi
A. By making noises with their roots.
B. By connecting the roots of different plants to each other.
C. By sharing food and information with each other.
D. By spreading chemicals to each other.
( )33.What is the writer's intention of the last paragraph
A. To give people hope for further studies.
B. To praise scientists for their great achievements.
C. To call on people to protect the plants on Earth.
D. To inspire people to communicate with plants.

四、(2022·上海罗南中学阶段练习)任务型阅读(共5小题,计10分)
阅读下面短文,按要求完成36~40题。
The Green Belt Movement is a group based on community in Kenya. It helps protect the environment, mainly through planting trees.
The Green Belt Movement started in 1977 by Wangari Maathai. When Wangari started the Green Belt Movement, she thought that if people grew the trees themselves, it would help them to understand the environment and develop their local cultures.
Today, the Green Belt Movement works like this. People from the Movement go to communities to talk about tree planting and starting nurseries(苗圃). If the local people are interested, they can join the Movement as a group. When they join, they receive a lot of information about how to prepare the soil, and collect and grow seeds. When the people know what to do, they can collect seeds, plant them into seedlings. When the seedlings are big enough, they will be planted on farms. The Green Belt Movement pays the nursery money for each seedling that is still alive after three months.
The Green Belt Movement now has a lot of community nurseries in Kenya, and many more in other African countries. Over the last 30 years, it has planted millions of trees in parks and on farms.
The Green Belt Movement also runs programs to help people start gardens and grow plants. This means that many communities can now take care of almost all their own food needs, and they can often make money as well.
In 2004, Wangari Maathai won the Nobel Peace Prize. Giving the prize to Wangari showed that peace doesn't just mean stopping wars. It can also mean making the world a better place to live in.

One possible version:
Date: March 12th
Weather: Sunny and warm
Dear Diary,
As spring comes, it's time to plant trees. Last Friday, our school organized a tree-planting activity in the park. All of the students took part in the activity.
Our teachers showed us how to plant a tree first. Then we started working. First, I dug a hole and put a little tree into it. Then, I filled the hole with some soil to cover the root of the tree. Finally, I watered the little tree. When I saw the tree standing in the soil, I got a strong feeling of satisfaction.
Working is the source of happiness. The tree-planting activity is very meaningful. I not only learned how to plant trees, but also experienced the happiness coming from my hard work. I’ll take care of these trees and take an active part in activities like this.
