Fahim was only 11 years old when he first met Alberto Cairo in 1993 in a hospital in Kabul, the Afghan capital. At the time, Kabul was caught in a bloody civil war. After his left leg was blown off, Fahim went to the hospital to seek treatment. This is a hospital run by the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC). There, he met Alberto Cairo, who arrived in Kabul in 1990.
Over the next three decades, Fahim has made countless trips to the hospital. During those visits, the compassionate (慈悲的) treatment from Cairo deeply moved him. “He is a friend of the Afghan people,” Fahim said of Cairo. When Fahim decided to study medicine, it was Cairo who kept encouraging him. Today, Fahim works as a nurse and an anesthetist (麻醉师) in a hospital in Afghanistan.
Fahim is only one example of what Cairo leaves behind in Kabul, the city that has become his home for the past 30 years.
For Cairo, the job as a doctor came by chance. “I was a teenager in Italy when I saw a man doing something that seemed so simple and so helpful: helping people to walk. That moment left a strong impression on me. I eventually left my training as a lawyer behind to choose medicine.”
In his early years in Afghanistan, Cairo was shocked by the great number of patients seeking treatment for wounds caused by the war. Each year, the rehabilitation centers (康复中心) treat more than 13,000 new patients—most of whom, like Fahim, require lifetime treatment.
At first, the ICRC’s treatment center only focused on war sufferers, but Cairo expanded its treatment to include all people with disabilities in the country. He made two decisions that have left a lasting impact. One was to employ former patients to work in the treatment center. The second was to organize an athletic group for people with disabilities.
4. When did Fahim first meet Cairo
A. When he became a nurse. B. Before civil war broke out.
C. When Cairo treated his leg in a hospital. D. When he started to learn medicine.
5. What inspired Cairo to become a doctor
A. The cruelty of war. B. Fahim’s experience.
C. A man helping people walk. D. His training as a lawyer.
6. Which of the following can best describe Cairo
A Demanding. B. Determined. C. Outgoing. D. Caring.
7. What kind of patients were mainly treated in the ICRC’s treatment center at first
A. People wounded in the war. B. People with disabilities.
C. People with mental illnesses. D. People needing lifetime treatment.

Smart Highway is a creative idea for smart roads of tomorrow: Smart Highway is the result of the teamwork between builder and developer Heijmans and designer Daan Roosegaarde.
Among them, Glowing Lines, the world’s first light-emitting (发光的) highway, is a safe and environment-friendly road. The site of the pilot project is a part of the N329 Highway in Oss, located in the province of Noord-Brabant, the Netherlands.
The road was built by Heijmans and was designed by Daan Roosegaarde, using light- emitting paints. The paints absorb ultraviolet light (紫外线) during the day and give it off for up to 10 hours at night. Solar energy panels (太阳能板) or other sources of power can provide energy to make sure that the road continues to provide light as required, despite weather or daylight hours.
The Van Gogh-Roosegaarde bicycle path is a creative path, inspired by Van Gogh’s The Starry Night and designed by Daan Roosegaarde. There are thousands of light-emitting stones, giving visitors an experience of poetry and design. The path gets energy at daytime and emits light during the night. It is supported by LED light to make sure of safety, quality and light during the whole night. Art and technology merge in this new, public view. The bicycle path is 600 metres long and is part of the Van Gogh cycling path.
The Van Gogh-Roosegaarde bicycle path is set up as a cultural and enjoyable road, based on the light-emitting technologies developed for the Smart Highway. Riding a bicycle at this site is a wonderful experience. Furthermore, the path is lit up in such an environment-friendly way without destroying the ecology. As a tourist attraction, the bicycle path also offers economic added value to the Eindhoven region: Visitors can experience the pathway in the evening and will likely stay in the region longer.
8. What can we know about the Glowing Lines
A. It cannot provide light continuously in bad weather.
B. It brings light pollution to the environment.
C. It’s the result of the teamwork among builders, developers and designers.
D. It’s the only highway in the world which can emit light.
9. What does the underlined word “merge” in paragraph 4 mean
A. Come out. B. Take off. C. Take over. D. Mix together.
10. What can we infer about the Van Gogh-Roosegaarde bicycle path from the last paragraph
A. It only attracts cyclists to Eindhoven.
B. It should be built in other cities.
C. It can promote the local economy.
D. Its light has bad effects on ecology.
11. What is the purpose of this text
A. To tell us what future roads are like.
B. To show the history of the road development.
C. To stress the high technology of the Netherlands.
D. To introduce two smart roads.

Ten originated in China over two thousand years ago. Today, the country owns over 2,000 varieties of tea, differing in taste, sweet and purpose. Some teas, such as Huang Shan, refresh the sense of taste with their special flavour, while others, such as spicy chai, are added with spices (香料).
China first started exporting tea during the Ming dynasty (1368-1644), and the drink has since come to lead humanity's drinking habits far beyond Asia. It is the most widely consumed drink on Earth today, aside from water and coffee.
In Chinese mythology, tea was first discovered by Chinese Emperor Shennong (“Divine Farmer”) in 737 BC, when a soft wind carried some leaves into a pot of boiling water. However, the oldest dependable evidence comes from ancient plant remains found in 2016 in Xi'an and western Tibet, showing that tea was grown at least 2,100 years ago during the Western Han dynasty when it was most likely used as medicine.
Generation after generation of tea makers experimented with different brewing (冲泡) techniques, leaves, and ceremonies, resulting in today’s tea culture full of life. There’s no doubt that China’s tea culture has become one of the most popular, diverse, and unique traditions in the world.
China is already the world’s largest tea exporter. The inclusion of the country’s traditional tea-making process on the UNESCO list will obviously generate practical benefits for tea makers in the country and across the world as more resources are given to protect and preserve such millennia-old tea culture and technical practices. As additional attention is brought to this traditional technique, the Chinese tea sector will further tap its potential and improve its growth.
As one of China’s oldest cultural practices, traditional tea processing techniques show the spirit of modesty (谦逊), peace, and comity (礼让). No matter your preference for green or dark tea, with milk or without, Chinese tea isn’t just brews. Instead, it is a bridge connecting different cultures and peoples.
12. What does the first paragraph mainly tell us
A. Chinese tea has a fresh taste. B. Chinese tea has a rich variety.
C. Chinese tea has a long history. D. Chinese tea is added with spices.
13. How does the author find about Chinese tea
A. Hopeful. B. Objective. C. Careless. D. Disapproving.
14. What is the best title for the text
A Chinese Tea Benefits the Globe a Lot
B Chinese Protect and Develop Its Tea Culture
C. Chinese Tea Is Included in the UNESCO List
D. China Plays a Vital Part in Cultural Diversity
15. Where is the text probably taken from
A. A news report. B. A book review.
C. A culture magazine. D. A science fiction.

Anger is best expressed physically, especially if you have a lot of repressed anger to process. ___19___ Some good ways to express anger include punching pillows, hitting the ground with a baseball bat, popping balloons or going for a walk.

Sometimes, life just throws a huge curveball at you, and you have to deal with it. For this girl, she kept going even though that curveball took away most of her.
Kate, 17, was riding home from Bear Lake with her families when they were hit by a truck. It was not a very serious traffic accident.
It was just a crash without causing any deaths. But it brought misfortune to Kate. She suffered the worst out of anyone in the car. In other words, she was the worst injured in her family.
Kate was badly injured from the waist down. There was no blood flow in her legs, and things weren’t looking good. She needed both legs amputated(截肢) above the knee and spent two months in the hospital. At that age, most of her classmates would be getting ready for college. But fate wasn’t so kind to her.
It was not easy to get back on track after such a misfortune, but life was still worth living on. At this time, Kate knew that she must encourage herself to be even stronger and fight with every challenge more bravely than before. She had to gain more confidence to shoulder the burden that nobody in her age had ever faced.
She was a cheerleader(啦啦队队员) at school, after all. She knew better than anyone that some encouragement and hard work can really make a difference. As a to-be adult, she also showed her uncertainty about her own future. She sometimes asked her mum whether she would ever drive or swim again. Her mother answered yes to everything she asked.
However, one thing was for sure: Kate would need a wheelchair for the rest of her life. What would you do if you had to live on a wheelchair What would you do if you wanted to return to your stage Luckily, Kate didn’t feel or do as you did.
注意:
1.续写词数应为150左右;
2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。

A. Demanding. B. Determined. C. Outgoing. D. Caring.

Ten originated in China over two thousand years ago. Today the country owns over 2,000 varieties of tea, differing in taste, sweet and purpose.
C Chinese tea has a long history. D. Chinese tea is added with spices.
13. How does the author find about Chinese tea
A. Hopeful. B. Objective. C. Careless. D. Disapproving.
14. What is the best title for the text
A. Chinese Tea Benefits the Globe a Lot
B. Chinese Protect and Develop Its Tea Culture
C. Chinese Tea Is Included in the UNESCO List
D. China Plays a Vital Part in Cultural Diversity
15. Where is the text probably taken from

Many people were never taught how to express their emotions. Because they do not know how to express them, they end up repressing (压抑) their emotions instead. For people who have gone through painful life situations, they can end up engaging in unhealthy behaviours to avoid expressing their emotions, such as performing self-injuries or developing eating disorders. ___16___ Here is how to express emotions.
●Recognize the importance of expressing emotions.
___17___ For example, many people who struggle with ongoing depression or anxiety are often actually angry. Because the unexpressed anger has nowhere to go, the person experiences the emotion as depression or anxiety. If you want to take control over your emotional life, you need to first recognize that it is important to express your emotions.
●___18___
Many people who have never learned how to express their emotions have a difficult time even labeling what those emotions are. Some people might feel anger when the emotion that they are actually dealing with is pain. Others might cry and feel sad in situations in which anger is really the more appropriate (合适的) emotion. Practise labeling the emotion that you are actually having.
●Express your anger physically.
Anger can be a frightening emotion for many people to express. Anger is best expressed physically, especially if you have a lot of repressed anger to process. ___19___ Some good ways to express anger include punching pillows, hitting the ground with a baseball bat, popping balloons or going for a walk.
●Cry out your pain.
Tears really do heal a wounded spirit. However, many people have a hard time expressing their sorrow. ___20___ You will feel much better after a good cry.
A. Label your emotions appropriately.
B. Unexpressed emotions affect your life.
C. Everyone must express his or her emotions immediately.

【19题详解】

第二节(满分25分)
47. 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
注意:
1.续写词数应为150左右;
2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
Kate had to relearn how to live on a wheelchair.

Then the last football game of the season arrived.
___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】
Kate had to relearn how to live on a wheelchair. It could feel demoralizing and frustrating to have to relearn how to do a simple task. Most people don’t even have to think about it. But Kate undertook the challenge like a champ. Her family, friends, and even people she knew in the community gave her great support because they believed “Kate is strong”. The message “Kate is strong” stayed with the family throughout the entire journey of Kate’s recovery, with loved ones wearing shirts with the message written across the front.
Then the last football game of the season arrived. She arrived home just in time too, and she was able to join her fellow cheerleaders on the field. “It’s really important to me; it’s my favorite hobby by far,” she said. “I knew that it would be modified, but I was still able to be a part of the team.” She learned a new cheer routine, set to her favorite song. Finally she made it again. She successfully performed the routine at the football game with her team while sitting on a wheelchair. And now, just six months later, the senior in high school has regained her independence.
