67. The boy put ten chocolates on my seat and got off the bus. Seeing his small figure disappear in the busy street, I felt at a loss. “I know the boy.” A voice flew through the frozen air and drew me back to life. Then a man told all of us that the boy was a top student in a primary school nearby, whose mother fell ill due to the heavy work. In order to raise some money for his mother, the boy had been selling chocolates for several weeks.
Having got the boy’s name, I decided to help him. I got off the bus at the next stop and took a taxi to his school. Upon arrival, I managed to find the headmaster and handed him $1000, asking him to secretly give the money to the boy who I met selling chocolates on the bus. The headmaster promised to make everything perfect and thanked me on behalf of the boy and his mother. Now, I knew I could go home without shame and regret.

Text1:
W: Let’s meet by the front door of the museum at three o’clock, not by the ticket office like last time.
M: OK. If I’m late, you can go to the café nearby and order something to eat first.
Text2:
W: Oh, I’m so dead. It’s already 8:30 now. I should have thrown that stupid alarm clock away long ago!
M: Calm down, Honey. Your company bus will pass by our apartment in 15 minutes. You still have time.
Text3:
W: For me, one hour of exercise in the morning is a good way to start a day. But if I don’t shower after going to the gym, I’ll feel uncomfortable all day long.
M: Well, I always do exercise on weekend afternoons with my friends.
Text4:
W: How was your lunch break, Vince I didn’t see you in the dining room.
M: I didn’t go there because I’m too tired today. My daughter was sick last night, so I had to take care of her.
W: Oh, I hope she will get well soon.
Text5:
W: It makes me feel happy to read every day. Do you also love reading
M: Yes. But I prefer doing sports outdoors after work. Do you love reading the most
W: Yes. But besides reading, I also love watching movies with my family at the weekend.
Text6:
M: This one looks great! I love the seashore.
W: So do I. The sun, the sand and the ocean!
M: And listen to this! What do you think about going sailing, swimming and fishing?
W: Oh, Tom! They all sound fantastic. I would really like to do all those things.
M: Yeah, me too.
W: Well, except fishing. To be honest, I hate fishing, but I love all the others.
M: Hey! Look at this! We can stay in a big hotel or we can stay in a little cabin by the beach.
W: You know, I really don’t like those big hotels. How about camping on the beach?
M: Good idea!
Text7:
M: This is the music room. You said you play the guitar, right
W: Yes. I’ll be practicing with the school band right here after lunch.
M: Great! I want to join the band, too.
W: Oh What can you play then
M: Drums.
W: Nice! I’ve always admired people who could play the drums. I don’t have that strong sense of rhythm. Did you learn how to play at school
M: No…my father is very musical. He plays many instruments well, and he started teaching me when I was three.
W: That’s young! I didn’t start guitar lessons until I was eight years old.
Text8:
M: Hi, Lucy. Would you like to come to a Halloween party
W: Yes, sure. That would be great.
M: Wonderful. It’s a costume party. I have prepared enough candies. You’ll need to buy some scary paintings.
W: It should be a fun party, but why are you having it
M: It’s to make Patrick, the American exchange student, feel at home.
W: Why would having a party make him feel at home
M: Halloween is a holiday that is celebrated a lot in America but not as much in the UK. Nearly all the houses in America have frightening decorations and that is not done much here, either. Americans also carve scary faces into pumpkins and put candles inside. I do hope more friends will come and have fun together.
W: It’s so nice of you, Bob. I can’t wait to come.
Text9:
W: Stop poisoning us! Stop poisoning us!
M: Hey! Julia! Why are you shouting in front of this factory
W: Robert! It’s you! This factory is polluting our air and water. They’re responsible for dangerous chemicals and waste.
M: But your husband works here. Aren’t you concerned you’ll cause trouble for him and the other workers
W: What’s more important is their health. The air quality in and out of this factory is at worst levels. My husband has been coughing all night.
M: That’s terrible. Maybe I should help you to do something.
W: As a reporter, you can cover the event on behalf of your newspaper.
M: Okay, but maybe that is taking things a little too far.
W: No way! Did you know that workers and people in the community have got lung cancers This afternoon we will go to the government gate.
M: I didn’t know that. More details

Education can help students build a better future for themselves, but studying abroad can sometimes come with a high price tag. Hong Kong and Shanghai Banking Corporation’s latest research reveals that Australia is the most expensive destination for overseas students. The average total cost of university fees and living expenses in Australia can reach US $38,516 per year for international students. The United States ranks the second on the list, with an average annual cost of more than $35,000, followed by the United Kingdom, with annual costs over US $30,000. Several Asian countries and regions are also on the list. The average expense of overseas students in China’s Hong Kong is about US $22,000 per year, ranking the 7th, next only to Singapore’s US $24,248. Japan ranks the 8th, the Chinese mainland the 10th, and China’s Taiwan the 11th. The research analyzed publicly available data on higher education across 13 countries. The average tuition cost for international students is based on the top 10 largest colleges and universities in each relevant country.

If you struggle to fall asleep quickly, you’re not alone! Fortunately, there are plenty of solutions you can try. With a few changes, you can fall asleep fast every night!
Keep your room dark. Turn off all the lights above your head when you go to bed. Any bright light can make you believe it is too early in the day for sleep. If you want to read or write before bed, try using a small book light. Now that blue lights can keep you awake, red ones are a great choice.
If you can, keep noise in and around your room the lowest at night. If you have an old clock that ticks loudly and keeps you awake, replace it with a silent one. If you share your home with anyone else, request that they keep noises like talking, music, or TV shows at the lowest while you are trying to sleep. It is difficult to fall asleep if you live near a busy road or hear other boring sounds after bedtime. You could get a white noise machine or play recordings of nature sounds, like waves or whales’ singing. You could also listen to soft, relaxing music.
Read a book in bed if you have difficulty in falling asleep. Staying in bed doing nothing when you’re having trouble falling asleep may keep you wide awake. While reading in bed may be slightly harmful to your eyes, it can distract (分散) you from your thoughts and help you feel sleepy. But remember to read from a print book rather than something with a screen. The light from electronic screens can keep you awake.
Lowering your body temperature helps you sleep, so set the room temperature between 15.5℃-21℃ could do the trick.
24.What color book light should you choose to read before bed
A.Red. B.Blue. C.White. D.Orange.
25.What is the author’s attitude towards reading in bed
A.Doubtful. B.Worried. C.Favorable. D.Uncaring.
26.What can we inferred from the text
A.Reading on cellphones sometimes helps you fall asleep.
B.The lower your temperature while sleeping is, the better.
C.Bright lights are better for your reading before going to bed.
D.Playing recordings like birds’ singing can improve your sleep.
27.How does the author organize the text
A.By giving examples. B.By asking questions.
C.By offering suggestions. D.By listing research results.

Hawk Salvage, located in the historic neighborhood on Grand Avenue, is the place to find one-of-a-kind things. The store features a collection of curious things of the past and, most recently, a huge selection of rare and unique houseplants.
Founded by Greg Hawk, who has traveled from coast to coast finding items for his store, Hawk Salvage is like a well-kept history museum, its walls and display cases were filled with ancient art and historical photos. Even the space is a slice of history — it served as an automotive garage in the1940s. The front of the shop is home to lots of greenery.
On October 17 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., the store will host its first-ever community plant swap, where plant parents can bring their plants and trade them for new plants. Visitors can learn tips and tricks from other fellow plant lovers and enjoy live music, artist demonstrations, food trucks and more. It will be a plant party for the ages, Hawk says. To take part in the plant swap, guests must bring at least one live and healthy plant to trade for another plant of equal size.
Because his regular picking trips was put on hold, Hawk, who is also interested in gardening, started propagating(繁殖)plants. “I started looking at houseplants and it just opened up this huge can of worms of all the cool things that are out there, and now I find myself with more plants than I want to take care of.” he says. Hosting an event where he could clear away some of his plants while reconnecting the community is a win-win situation, he adds.
Hawk says the event is open to everyone. His advice for new plant fans “Be patient. Buy something simple to start with. Everything dies, so you’re going to kill plants — it’s part of the process,” he says. “I think the biggest tip that I would give is not to be afraid to experiment with your plants.”
28.What can visitors usually do in Hawk Salvage
A.Trade their plants for others. B.Get their cars or trucks repaired.
C.Buy some rare and unique things. D.Draw beautiful pictures on its walls.
29.What is a requirement for the plant swap
A.Owning a large garden. B.Bringing some greenery.
C.Having planting experience. D.Being good at hosting plant parties.
30.What is paragraph 4 mainly about
A.Why Hawk ended his regular picking trips. B.Why Hawk decided to host the plant swap.
C.How Hawk took care of his plants in the past. D.How Hawk started his journey as a plant-lover.
31.What does Hawk advise new plant fans to do
A.They should learn by experience. B.They should stay away from houseplants.
C.They should be careful when planting. D.They should turn to experienced planters.

To solve a big environmental problem, chemists in the Czech Republic have been thinking small. Really small. Their new minirobot has one purpose: to help clean up tiny bits of plastic polluting waterways across the globe.
Each new robot is no bigger than the tip of a sharpened pencil. They are magnetic (有磁性的) and shaped like stars. When sunlight hits them, they produce chemical reactions that push them through water in a specific direction. When they find a piece of plastic, they stick to it and start to break it down. When the light goes out, they let go and are free to be used again.
“This work is great,” says Douglas Blackiston at Tufts University in Medford, Mass. He’s a biologist who did not work on the project but knows about such devices. He’s been designing robots out of living cells, including some that might help with pollution cleanup. Speaking of the new one, he mentions that, “These robots can eat plastic. They chew it up. Or they can recover it and be collected with a magnet. Scientists love robots with all these capabilities. ”
Chemist Martin Pumera at the Czech University of Chemistry and Technology in Prague led the project. He studies ways to build microrobots. About a decade ago, he says, scientists began developing tiny bots that could move themselves in water. Then, they had to find them a mission and thought “Let’s make them do something useful.” Since then, Pumera has focused on the problem posed by microplastics, which are everywhere—from the bottom of the ocean to air blowing onto ice atop mountains. They’ve turned up in drinking water, both bottled and tap water, and some studies estimate that trillions of pieces of plastic end up in the world’s waters. The plastic has many sources, from drinking straws and shopping bags to laundry and cleaning wipes. Plastic doesn’t easily degrade or fall apart, and that’s always been one of its appeals.
Pumera says his final goal is to make cheap and environmentally friendly robots that can be used anywhere in the world.
32.What do the new robots mainly do
A.To collect tiny bits of plastic in the sea B.To push the pollution in water away
C.To help do research into the plastic D.To deal with the plastic in water
33.How do the new robots get powered
A.By stars B.By plastic C.By sunlight D.By living cells
34.Why did Pumera take part in the project
A.Because of public attention to the plastic
B.Because of the challenges from the plastic
C.Because he was asked to do so by other scientists
D.Because he was inspired by the invention of microrobots
35.What is the best title of the article
A.Small robots, big dreams B.No plastic in water anymore!
C.Robots, winners against plastic D.The fight between robots and plastic

第二节(满分25分)读后续写
67.阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
It was just another busy day until I met the boy on the bus. He was not a passenger like me. He was, what we call a street child, an 8-10-year-old kid with a worn T-shirt. These poorly dressed kids were seen almost everywhere in Dhaka city. But what was special about that boy was his face. There was “something” in him that caught my attention. That was an angelic(天使般的)baby face with little care.
He got straight into the bus as it stopped at a traffic light. The bus helper shouted at him in the first place. But instead of talking back, the boy kept silent and started handing out a piece of paper to all the passengers. What was written in the paper was, in short, that his father died a couple of years ago. His mother worked at houses. He badly needed money to help his family, so he wished someone warm-hearted to buy chocolates from him.
This was nothing new to people who took a bus every day and I was no different. I had my earphones on, listening to some relaxing music to kill time. When he came to me to get the paper back, I casually gave him some money. Thankfully it brought some smiles on his face. He was about to give me ten chocolates in return for the money I gave to him when I stopped him.
“I don’t like chocolates, brother. So there is no need of chocolates. You can have the money,” I said.
All of a sudden, the smile on his face disappeared.
“I’m not a beggar. Please take the chocolate, or take your money back.”
His straight answer greatly surprised me. I even felt he was slightly angry. I had given money to many kids before, without taking their chocolates. But this time something seemed different. I realized his angelic baby face was not the only thing special about him.
注意:
1. 续写词数应为150左右;
2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
