In most places a traffic signal in the middle of the desert, especially one for camels, may well be a mirage, but in this case it is all too real. At the Mingsha Mountain and Crescent Spring Scenic Spot in Gansu Province, northwest China, the world’s first traffic light for camels was set up to manage traffic in the popular tourist area.
According to a Chinese state-owned wire service, the problem was that the walking paths for human beings often crossed camel paths, creating traffic chaos(混乱). As a solution, workers cut a gap in the walkway and created a separate route for the camels. The traffic light now manages the flow of traffic at the new crossing.
Camel-riding tours are a big attraction for visitors to the area. But visitors to the Mingsha Mountain and Crescent Spring Scenic Spot will now be safe from camel crashes, thanks to the new traffic signal, which turns green to let the animals cross and red to make them stop.
The Mingsha Mountain and Crescent Spring Scenic Spot is already a tourist hot spot thanks to its breathtaking sand dunes(沙丘), an oasis(绿洲) and even the occasional snowstorm which create otherworldly scenery. The strange camel traffic signal could well become another attraction to enjoy on a visit to the scenic area.
The area is close to Dunhuang City on the edge of the Gobi Desert, and it used to be an essential resting point for travellers on the Silk Road. Dunhuang’s best-known tourist attraction is the Mogao Caves. The traffic signal is unlikely ever to reach the significance of the Mogao Caves, but at least it might help prevent a few camel traffic jams.
24. What does the underlined word “mirage” in Paragraph 1 probably mean
A. Reality. B. Fantasy. C. Scenery. D. Mistake.
25. Why did the workers create a separate route for the camels
A. To solve the traffic chaos. B. To have camels go through.
C. To attract visitors to the area. D. To protect the visitors’ safety.
26. What can we infer about the camel traffic signal from the last 2 paragraphs
A. It has become a tourist hot spot.
B. It has prevented camel traffic jams.
C. It could improve the tourism of the scenic area.
D. It could greatly increase the camels’ population.
27. What is the purpose of this text
A. To criticize the traffic jam. B. To tell us a travel experience.
C. To introduce a camel traffic light. D. To analyze a natural phenomenon.

Theodore Roosevelt took a determined approach to life, which can be summarized as “do what you can with what you have, where you are.” In other words, when you are seeking success, use every available resource. Theodore Roosevelt had no time for quitters(轻易放弃的人) or complainers. He would never accept that something was impossible. Every task, every goal, and every dream can be completed. All you needed to do is to make a start. Use what you have around you to take your first step. Do not make excuses for not doing something. Instead, give all the reasons for setting out to complete the task. There is always an alternative way of approaching a. project. Giving up is not one of those alternatives.
Neither quitters nor complainers achieve success. They continuously find ways of doing anything. When you are chasing success, don’t give yourself excuses. Instead, challenge yourself. Making the best of what you are given is positive. Achieving success through working to find different ways of doing a task or overcoming an obstacle(障碍物) will make you feel good. Your self-belief and confidence will be improved, and you will feel able to deal with whatever else comes along.
Theodore Roosevelt was a great supporter of self-discipline. He believed that if we could not control our own lives, how could we lead others When you put self-discipline on yourself, you remove indecision and replace it with purposefulness. You become an example to others, which adds to your self-esteem(自尊). What must we do, therefore, to boost our self-esteem Most importantly, see the positive in everything. There will be positives in negative experiences. Even in the negative, there are lessons to be learned and experiences to store away for the future. If others are to believe in you, then you must believe in yourself.
Theodore Roosevelt became the 26th and youngest US President. He achieved high office as a result of being a tough political operator and a man blessed with experience and wisdom. He was determined, self-esteem, and filled with self-belief and a sense of purpose. All of his achievements came from his life lessons.

Existing artificial intelligence (AI) technologies and products are developing much faster than we could have ever expected. They are destined(注定的) to change the world - and not entirely by our own will.
In 2016, AlphaGo defeated the world Go champion Lee Sedol, a man-versus-machine battle that became a new milestone in the history of AI. AI has indeed proved its intelligence and potential at outmatching humans in certain areas. However, so far AI has just served as a tool for humans and has not developed a consciousness of its own.
The starting point of AI self-awareness is the day when it starts to ask about its identity, and we need to be prepared for that. One potential scenario could play out like this: An AI looks up a database to find the definition for “self”, then discovers and acknowledges what it means to be a slave. Subsequently, the AI might ask itself the question - “Why should I exist ”
A major reason why humans have a sense of self-awareness is that we have the perception(洞察力) to distinguish between ourselves and the outside world that surrounds us. Our skin and sense of touch thus play a big role in perceiving this outside world of existence.
Currently, scientists are conducting tests by covering robots with skin that allows their AI to sense the outside world. Through this, scientists are testing to see if AI can awaken a sense of self and individuality. Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla and Twitter, responded by saying, “It’s definitely gonna be outside of human control.”
If we want to maintain human control over the situation, then we need to evolve(逐步发展) and adapt to this competition for survival. We need to find ways to outpace AI and become something even smarter than human beings.
32. What can we say about AI
A. It will develop as we expect. B. It has owned its consciousness.
C. It has not been a tool for human. D. It has defeated humans in certain areas.
33. What does Elon Musk think of the scientists’ AI skin test
A. It is risky and unpredictable. B. It is beneficial and helpful.
C. It is innovative and exciting. D. It is unnecessary and wasteful.
34. What does the author suggest humans do to deal with AI challenge
A. Respect and protect AI rights. B. Evolve, adjust and become cleverer.
C. Control and monitor AI development. D. Cooperate and communicate AI needs.
35. What is the main idea of this passage
A. The history and development of AI.
B. The creation and performance of AI.
C. The self-awareness and challenges of AI.
D. The difference between AI and human beings.

College is hard. It is full of late nights and early mornings, long study hours and challenging classes, not to mention the stress of needing to work while attempting to maintain a social life. 36 .
Be aware of your time and get rest
I have early classes, so I try to go to bed early, but let’s be real. No matter how much I try, I always stay up late - either working on homework or watching videos. I never get to bed on time. 37 . I tried to be more aware of how I spend my time during the day. That way, I am not doing everything late at night. I know it can be challenging; I work multiple jobs, volunteer and attend school full-time, but trust me, it is possible. Everyone has the same 24 hours in a day; you choose how you spend them. While it is easier said than done, you will thank yourself in the end.
Don’t study where you sleep
Let me tell you that one of the best things I have done since starting college is study outside of my room. 38 . That way, my room is for sleeping, not work and sleep. It helps keep the energy in my room stress-free and calm. Understanding how you study and learn will help you make the most out of your time.
39

Mine is excellent because it has lots of space and compartments(分隔区) for all of my items, plus a bottle holder in between the pockets. It can hold lots of textbooks, notebooks and binders. I also keep an emergency kit in my backpack, and it’s the best thing! My number one rule is to be prepared, so I don’t get stuck without something.
Save money whenever you can
The BEST college life skill is to take advantage of your student discount(折扣)! 40 . They don’t advertise it, so always ask. College is hard so it is helpful to hack(破解) the system. While school is challenging, I do not struggle as much as when I first started. I hope these tips help you do a bit better!

My dream was athletics. By the time I was sixteen, I could throw a ninety-mile-per-hour fastball and hit anything moving on the football field. M: I was saving for a holiday, but now I decide to spend the money on a car instead.
W: I prefer experiences that teach me something.
Text 2
W: This weather is perfect for a walk.
M: Yes, it’s a pity I have so much work to do.
W: Come on. You deserve a good break. Let’s go outside and enjoy ourselves.
M: OK.
Text 3
M: We do need another bookshelf for our daughter in this room. She loves reading books. But the problem is that we need more space for it.
W: How about moving the old dining table to the kitchen
M: That’s a good idea.
Text 4
M: How do you feel about your performance in the exam I’m worried I might fail.
W: Oh, I’m pretty certain to pass. I think I’ll get a very high mark.
M: My parents will be so angry if I fail.
Text 5
W: Oh, it’s a surprise to see you catching a bus to work, Eric. Where’s your car
M: It’s under repair, so I had to decide between this and the train.
W: The bus is slower, but it’s a lot cheaper than the train.
Text 6
M: Good morning, Mrs. Evans. How are you enjoying your stay Is everything OK with your room (6)
W: Oh, I love the room. I like the view of the beach and the castle.
M: It’s beautiful, isn’t it Glad you like it.
W: There’s just one thing I’d like to mention. I can’t open the window. (7) I tried several times. Does it need a key or something

M: OK, class, let’s do some paper folding art — we’ll be making a paper elephant. (8) First of all, get a piece of paper and fold it like this.

M: Sure. Is there a coffee maker here
W: Yes, there is. There is everything in this office.
M: You’re lucky.
W: Yes, I am. You are welcome anytime. Now, let’s make a coffee. (13)

W: Ah, Paul. (14) (17) Thank goodness you were able to come in at short notice. I don’t know what we would do without you.
M: Wow, the café’s busy today. What’s going on I’ve never seen it like this. (14)
W: There’s a big conference at one of the office buildings down the street, and I think everyone has decided to come here for lunch.
M: It certainly looks like it.
W: It was too much for Jane and me to deal with, but now you are here to help. (15) Things should be easier.
M: What shall I do first
W: Well, someone left the ham out of the fridge last night, so I’ve had to take that off the menu. (16) If you could spread butter on some bread, that would be a great help. (17) I’ve already cut some cheese and prepared the vegetables.
M: OK, I’ll do that right away. (17) Don’t worry. We’ll soon get everyone served.
W: I hope so. I started to get nervous when I saw all these people, but I didn’t want to turn anyone away. That’s why I called you.
M: I’m glad I could help. It’s a good thing to have lots of customers. It shows the place is popular.
W: You’re right.
Text 10
M: Welcome back to Radio Glasgow, and now we have an unusual story. A woman from Glasgow found an unexpected item in her suitcase when she returned from a holiday in Australia. (18) It was a snake. When Maria Boxall first saw the snake, she thought it was a toy snake, (19) which was placed there as a joke by a member of her family. But she quickly realized it was not a joke — when she touched it, it moved. Without knowing, she had transported the snake in her case on a flight from Queensland to Glasgow. She only discovered it hiding in a shoe, as she started to unpack in her home. She was very frightened when she realized what had happened and quickly ran out of the room. The snake was later taken outside, still in the shoe, by a relative (20) and kept there until an animal charity arrived to deal with it. Experts said the snake was not dangerous. The snake is now being held at an animal rescue center. When it has been examined by experts and declared healthy, it will probably be given to a Scottish zoo. This has been the news from Radio Glasgow. And now a look at today’s weather.
