We have heard some interesting ways that 5G technology might change our lives in the future, making our lives more convenient.
5G, short for the 5th generation mobile networks, promises Internet speeds 50 to 100 times faster than current 4G systems. While 5G is set to be used in some limited areas of America this year, much of the world is not expected to receive widely available service until 2023.
One project in Britain, however, is already testing this superfast technology on an unlikely group of Internet users—cows. The project was developed by American technology company Cisco Systems. It also receives money from the British government. Cisco says the program seeks to explore the future of 5G connectivity in rural (乡村的) areas around the world.
Testing areas are set up on farms in three rural areas of England. The cows are equipped with 5G-connected devices that link up with a robotic milking system, which uses sensors and machine learning to fully automate (使自动化) the process. System designers say technology takes over after a cow feels ready to be milked and walks toward an automatic gate. The device is designed to recognize each individual cow. It then positions equipment to the right body position for milking. During the process, machines release (释放) food for the cow as a reward.
Other 5G technology tools include automated brushes that turn on when the cow rubs against them. Sensors also control the amount of light to the cows’ living areas depending on the weather. And, an automatic feeding system makes sure the animals always get enough to eat.
Duncan Forbes, head of the project, tells Reuters that the project shows the farm’s cow operations can be greatly improved with 5G technology and that the experiment provides strong evidence that 5G technology can be widely used in the future, not just on farms in Britain, but in rural communities across the world.
1.What is the purpose of Cisco Systems’ program
A.To win financial support from the British government.
B.To test the effects of 5G technology on animals.
C.To promote its technological development in Britain.
D.To expand the future use of 5G in rural communities.

A.The project.
B.The company.
C.The technology.
D.The group.
3.What can we learn about 5G according to the text
A.It is no worse than 4G in terms of speed.
B.It is already widely available in the world.
C.It enables cows to control their own milking.
D.It is based on sensors and machine learning.
4.In which section of a newspaper may this text appear

【七选五练】
The Internet has opened up a whole new online world for us to meet, chat and go where we’ve never been before.
But just as in face to face communication, there are some rules of behavior that should be followed when on line. 1 Imagine how you’d feel if you were in the other person’s shoes.
For anything you’re about to send: ask yourself, “Would I say this to the person’s face ” If the answer is no, rewrite and reread. 2
If someone in the chat room is rude to you, your instinct(本能)is to fight back in the same manner. But try not to do so. 3 If it was caused by a disagreement with another member, try to fix the situation by politely discussing it. Remember to respect the beliefs and opinions of others in the chat room.
4 Offer advice when asked by newcomers, as they may not be sure what to do or how to communicate. When someone makes a mistake, whether it’s a stupid question or an unnecessarily long answer, be kind to it. If it’s a small mistake, you may not need to say anything. Even if you feel strong about it, think twice before saying anything. Having good manners yourself doesn’t give you license to correct everyone else. 5 At the same time, if you find you are wrong, be sure to correct yourself and apologize to those who you have offended(冒犯).
It is not polite to ask others personal questions such as their age, sex and marital status. Unless you know the person very well, and you are both comfortable with sharing personal information, don’t ask such questions.
A.Everyone was new to the network once.
B.If you do decide to tell someone about a mistake, point it out politely.
C.It’s natural that there are some people who speak rudely or make mistakes online.
D.The basic rule is simple: treat others in the same way you would want to be treated.
E.You should either ignore the person, or use your chat software to block his messages.
F.When you send short messages to a person online, you must say something beautiful to hear.
G.Repeat the process till you feel sure that you’d feel comfortable saying the words to the person’s face.

What Is Social Media
Not many people ask the question “What is social media ” anymore. Social media has been around for years now, and most of us would probably describe it as any Internet medium that can be used to share information with others, including blogs, forums, applications, games, websites and other stuff.
But let me ask you this: What exactly is so “social” about sitting before a computer setting up a blog and blogging for days without anybody reading it, or scrolling through your Facebook feed of information from 500 friends you barely know If you ask me, it can be way more anti-social than anything.
Social media is not a “thing”. It’s not just Facebook, WeChat or Weibo. It’s more of a frame of mind and a state of being. It’s about how you use it to improve your relationships with other people in real life. However, we tend to rely on technology and social media so much that they can actually tear apart those relationships.
Social media isn’t about numbers. When someone says “social media”, Web giants like Facebook, Twitter, WeChat and Weibo instantly pop into our mind, often because they have more updates, more friends, more followers, more links, more photos and more everything. We tend to get distracted by the number game, thinking “volume, volume, volume”. It leads to a lot of meaningless noise and information overload. As the old saying goes, quality over quantity is usually the way to go. So, social media is not just about lots of people aimlessly spreading lots of information.
Social media needs to have an “IRL” factor—an Internet slang standing for “In Real Life”. It should affect how a person thinks or acts offline. After all, social media shouldn’t be an end in itself. It was built to enhance your actual social life, in real life. Take for example an event that a person attends because he is invited by the host on Facebook through a Facebook event page. Something like that definitely has the IRL factor. Likewise, a WeChat photo that touches someone so much that he feels the need to bring it up and describe it to someone else during a dinner date also has the IRL factor.
So, is it really considered to be social to spend an hour scrolling through photos on Weibo, with no thoughtful or emotional effect and no interaction with others In fact, there is no wall between real life and Internet life where true social media exists. Social media is not a specific place on the Internet or just a thing you use to see what other people are doing. It’s all about creating meaningful experiences and relationships wherever you may be.
1.What does the underlined phrase “tear apart” in Paragraph 3 mean in the text
A.Destroy. B.Change.
C.Continue. D.Strengthen.
2.The writer thinks that social media should be .
A.a number of websites where people communicate
B.a set of social tools like Facebook, WeChat and Weibo
C.a collection of online applications where ideas are exchanged
D.a group name for online platforms used to strengthen meaningful relationships
3.According to the author, which of the following cases has an IRL factor
A.Updating Facebook on a regular basis.
B.Following new friends in real life on Facebook.
C.Visiting a museum with friends after reading a story on Weibo.
D.Reading Twitter to see what other people are doing and thinking.
B
Ninety-five percent of American families are now online, with adults spending averagely five hours a day at home on the computer, which greatly influences their life, according to a new study.Yes, we’re connecting more with friends, but we’re also having dinner quickly so that we can update our Facebook status. Does your life suffer from too much time spent online, and do you properly protect your family’s identity when you share their information online Here’s how to take control of the online time and use the technology safely.
According to Sherry Turkle, professor of psychology at MIT, many people use their computers to avoid the messiness of real life. It’s difficult to refuse a friend, but it’s easy to send out an e-mail to do that. When you find yourself hiding behind your screen, make an effort to reconnect with people face to face.“It’s not because the technology is bad,” says Turkle.“It’s a matter of figuring out its place.”
Proud parents can’t help posting photos of their kids. But publicly sharing your kids’ information, such as your child’s full name, birth date, and place of residence could put him in danger. To avoid the risk, invite the people you know well to view the photos on password-protected (受密码保护的) websites such as Flickr and Snapfish. If you use Facebook, create a group of your inner circle specially for sharing photos and news of your kids.
Need a handy way to measure your family’s online habits Check out the family plan on Rescue Time. It keeps track of how each member of your family spends time online, and it shows the data by hour, day, and week. The website, which also offers personal plans, even allows you to block distracting(使人分心的) websites from your loved ones and yourself.
If reaching for your phone to check for messages and e-mails has become an uncontrollable habit, try this trick. Keep your devices on but turn off every message reminding, vibration(振动), and so on.Check for updates only when you finish a task.
4.Sherry Turkle probably agrees that .
A.the Internet is just a tool for people
B.people have to know their social status
C.technology can help improve friendship
D.going online helps people lead a happier life
5.How are family members’ online habits tracked by Rescue Time
A.By offering plans and blocking unsafe websites.
B.By blocking unwanted contact and information.
C.By tracking their online time and sorting out data.
D.By making plans and storing collected data.
6.Which can be the best title for the text
A.Important Tips on Protecting Online Information
B.How to Go Online Controllably and Safely
C.Key Advice on How to Avoid Unsafe Websites
D.How to Break Away from Bad Online Habits

【七选五练】
Earlier this year I removed all Internet services from my home, which was very upsetting at first, but I have lived that way. 1
I was not content with the time I was wasting. I felt I could do more purposeful things rather than spend it on the Internet. If there is something I want to research on the Internet, I write it down and use that list when I have access to the Internet. 2 I’ll go to the office, the library, the coffee shop, or some other places with free public Wi-Fi, and work on what I need to do online.
3 I log on (登录) to stream some YouTube videos or laugh at funny pictures, but I go on the Internet with the intention of doing these things. Whenever I’m on the Internet now, I use it in a deliberate way, a way that benefits me and my life, and a way that adds value.
4 I could focus on writing without being disturbed. I have more time to read, write, think, exercise and walk. Because I’m out of the house and there are people around, I meet new people. Additionally, I have more time for friends and I feel less stressed and my thoughts are clearer. My mind is more focused on important things. 5 Plus, I no longer long for the Internet like I once did.
It will be upsetting at first, but you will live, and your life will be better without it.
A.I don’t have a monthly Internet bill.
B.Now the Internet is a tool I use to improve my life.
C.Now I’m forced to leave the house to get the Internet.
D.This doesn’t mean I think the Internet is bad or wrong.

On Tuesday, Google announced a new feature of the Google Assistant. People can send reminders to friends and family on their phone or their Google Home equipment.
Google has named the new feature Assignable Reminders. Here’s how the new Assignable Reminders feature works with Google Assistant.
You start off by simply starting the Google Assistant by saying “Hey Google” or by whatever shortcut (快捷键) you have set on your phone. After this, you can tell Google Assistant to remind someone of something at a certain time.
This feature will also be feasible on the Google Home smart speaker, or a smart display which works with Google Assistant. The person receiving the reminder can also replay the reminder by asking Google Assistant to show him a list of all his reminders.
These reminders can only be sent to people who are already listed as family in your Google account or people who are linked and voice-matched to the same Google Home equipment.
Another feature built within Assignable Reminders is the ability to set reminders based on someone’s place. For example, you can set a reminder for friends to buy you something from a store as soon as they reach there.

The Internet plays a big part in human life. People benefit a lot from it.We use it for work and pleasure. We use it to learn a new language. We find advice on it. We use it to connect with family and friends. We use it to stay in touch with events we care about. The list goes on and on.
As far as the Internet being a part of our lives—well, that train has left the station. There is no going back to an Internet-free life. But can using the Internet too much be bad for our health It might be, say researchers. A new study finds that heavy Internet use may be connected with high blood pressure (血压) in a young group: teenagers.
The study results show that teens who spend at least 14 hours a week online may have high blood pressure, which makes your heart and blood vessels (血管) work too hard. Over time, this extra pressure increases your risk of a heart attack. High blood pressure can also cause heart and other diseases.
The Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, Michigan did the study. 335 young people, from 14 to 17 years old, took part in it. 134 of the teens were described as “heavy Internet users”. And researchers found that out of these 134 teens, 26 had high blood pressure. The researchers say the study is the first to connect heavy Web use with high blood pressure.
The lead researcher is Andrea Cassidy Bushrow. She says, “Using the Internet is part of our daily life, but it shouldn’t ruin us.” She adds that it is important for teens to stop to have a rest regularly from their computers or smart phones and do some kinds of physical activities. She also suggests that parents shouldn’t let their children use the Internet for more than two hours a day, five days a week.
