“Time flies. Youth fades. Treasure each moment of your life”, accompanied by guitar and drums, the Band for One, made up of five people, sang the lyrics soulfully during a performance in Hangzhou, Zhejiang province, on November 7, 2020.
Behind the band, there was a picture of a young man named Philip Hancock shown on the screen. And he is the reason why they were all there. Hancock was a 27-year-old Australian who taught English in Chongqing. When he died in 2018 due to a disease, his parents followed his wishes and donated his organs(器官).
The five people introduced themselves onstage. They are the ones who received Philip's organs. "Last November, the Red Cross officials told me Philip's parents mentioned during an earlier memorial service that he loved music and dreamed of having his own band one day," said Chen Xianjun, a recipient. Chen was instantly on board to form a band in memory of Philip, and so were the other four recipients.
Since they had no music experience, they had to start from scratch. From learning the guitar, to mastering the maracas and taking on the drums, they took time out of their busy lives to practice over the past year. Peter Hancock, Philip's father, said after watching the band's performance, his biggest wish is for the five to enjoy their lives more.
Organ donation is not only the best way to honor a loved one, but also a remarkable way to save the lives of others. China faces a serious shortage of organs, with about 300,000 people waiting for organ transplant surgeries each year. But the good news is, more and more people have been signing up to be organ donors, showing the spirit of selflessness that Philip and so many others have shown.
24. Why did the five people form the band
A. To compete in a singing performance.
B. To show their respect for Peter Hancock.
C. To raise money for the local Red Cross.
D. To express their thanks to Philip.
25. How long did it take the recipients to prepare for the performance
A. One year. B. Two years. C. Three years. D. Five years.
26. What do the underlined words “start from scratch” in paragraph 4 mean
A. lose interest in music. B. practice from the very beginning.
C. take part in training courses. D. turn to some musicians for help.
27. What can we learn from the last paragraph
A. Citizens are encouraged to donate organs.
B. Organ donation is the best way to save lives.
C. The author thinks highly of organ donations.
D. Few people are willing to donate their organs.
C
Who likes salty potato chips the most The answer is British people! The trouble is that they are eating too many salty foods. Some of Britain’s largest restaurants are even serving dishes with unacceptably high levels of salt to children, according to a survey.
Researchers from Action on Salt analyzed a total of 302 meals on children’s menu from 50 largest restaurants in Britain. They found that 41 percent contained more than 1.8 grams of salt, the largest recommended amount for a child’s meal set by Public Health England (PHE) in 2017. What’s worse, 34 percent of the meals had more than 2g of salt. They also found that levels of salt for the same meal could be largely diverse, depending on which restaurant made them. The spaghetti made by the Italian restaurant Prezzo contained 3.2g of salt, compared with 0.3g in the one made by Beefeater.
In September 2020, PHE set out new suggestions for the largest number of salt in children’s meals. It wants the level reduced to 1.71g by 2024. According to this, nearly half of the meals surveyed were over this level, including most meals at Gourmet Burger Kitchen and Pizza Hut, while Brewers Fayre, Burber King and Ikea made all their children’s dishes with less than 1.71g of salt.
Gramham Mac Gregor, Chairman of Action on Salt, said, “Gradually reducing the salt that is added to our food is the most effective measure for lowering blood pressure, so that we can reduce thousands of stroke (中风) and heart disease that are caused by overeating salt.”
“As for those restaurants who are unwilling to follow the instructions, ministers must now force them to stop adding all of this salt and putting our children’s future health at risk,” said Graham. “Parents should also pay attention to it,” he added. “Try to serve our children with more homemade meals and fewer restaurant foods. Try to add spices (香料) to food instead of salt. Try them. Our kids will thank us.”
28. In Paragraph 2, how did the researchers mainly explain their findings
A. By analyzing figures.
B. By doing experiments.
C. By giving reasons.
D. By referring to another study.
29. Which restaurant is the best choice for parents eating with kids
A. Prezzo. B. Gourmet Burger Kitchen.
C. Burger King. D. Pizza Hut.
30. Which statement does Gramhan agree with
A. Taking in too much salt can lower blood pressure.
B. Parents should stop dining out with their children.
C. All restaurants must stop adding salt to their meals.
D. Children’s future health should be taken seriously.
31. Which of the following is a suitable title for the text
A. Salt in Restaurant Food Is Increased
B. Salt in Meals Harms Humans’ Health
C. Salt in Children’s Meals Breaks Daily Limit
D. Salt Content Survey Caused Hot Discussion

Since the COVID-19 outbreak, many people have been forced to stay at home for long periods of time to protect themselves from the virus. This has given people more free time to learn new skills and find different ways to entertain themselves.
Some of these activities include things like singing, learning to cook and ordering fresh food online. All of these things can be done in the palm of your hand with mobile apps.
Before, young people would go outside and meet friends at karaoke bars. Now, friends can meet and sing on the mobile karaoke app Changba, which translates to Singing Bar. “The Changba app not only gives me the chance to sing whatever I like at home, but also lets me keep in touch with friends by sharing our songs,” said an app user.
Some people have also taken up cooking as a new hobby to pass the time. You don’t need to attend culinary school, thanks to apps like Xiachufang and Ecook, which make it easier for those who want to learn how to cook. These apps provide a platform for users to look up different recipes and to share their own recipes with others. “Using this app, I have learned many new and healthy dishes which help me eat better,” an app user commented on the app’s website.
To help people avoid crowded places like grocery stores, apps that deliver goods right to your door have also become very popular. “It is noteworthy that the epidemic has attracted new groups of consumers, such as elderly people, who originally didn’t belong to our target user group,” Zhang Yi, an analyst from the market research company iiMedia Research, said.
Indeed, during this special time, these apps have opened up a whole new world of opportunities for people of all ages and backgrounds.
32. What did the author tell us about Changba in Paragraph 3
A. It is more user-friendly than karaoke bars.
B. It helps users to discover their singing talent.
C. It provides opportunities to communicate with friends.
D. It allows users to improve their singing skills fast.
33. What can we learn about food-delivery apps
A. They have lost many young customers.
B. They have opened culinary classes for their users.
C. They have more elderly users than before.
D. They have caused many grocery stores to close.
34. Which of the following shows the structure of the article (①②③④⑤⑥ = Paragraphs 1-6)
A B C D
35. What is the purpose of the article
A. To tell people how to make full use of mobile apps.
B. To advertise mobile apps used for different purposes.
C. To show how people kill time during self-isolation.
D. To introduce the mobile apps people use during self-isolation.
第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分)
阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项,选项中有两项为多余选项。
Helping others is an important part of life. 36 . If you want to help others more but aren’t sure where to start, here are some tips that may help you.
37 .
The easiest way to know how you can help others is simply to ask them. Talk to a family member or friend, ask them what they most need help with, and offer your services. Then, follow through and try your best to do what they’ve asked of you. Remember actions always speak louder than words!
Be proactive (积极主动的).
Look for opportunities to help and lend a hand without being asked. 38 . For example, you can call your elderly grandpa to check in, bring your friend dinner while they’re sick or just hold the elevator door for a neighbor. Don’t wait for someone to ask for help — train yourself to think about all the different ways you can help people. Focus on being as friendly as possible, and you’ll get the hang of it!
Be a nonjudgmental (无偏见的) listener.
Sometimes, listening is more helpful and healing than practical assistance. Not everybody is looking for hands-on help or a solution to their problems. 39 . When someone is telling you about a hardship they’re going through, listen actively and focus on understanding them rather than fixing their problems.
Send a thoughtful note.
40 . Take time to send your loved ones notes or handwritten cards. When people feel isolated or cut off from their friends, even a small gesture can help them feel more connected and make their day brighter.
A. Ask people how you can help them
B. Think about what people may want
C. It gives you a sense of purpose and happiness
D. In fact, there are many small things you can do

Dear David ,
I ' m sorry to hear that you feel confused and anxious as a freshman at senior high school . I truly understand your situation since I have been there .
Going to senior high school is really a big challenge, especially when you face the higher academic pressure and new interpersonal relationship. However, you can make it easier by following some golden rules. To begin with, work out an appropriate schedule--good time management helps reduce your stress. What’s more, if necessary, turn to the school adviser for help, who is experienced in dealing with various problems for students like you. Finally , stay positive all the time, because a positive attitude sparks extraordinary results .
I do hope the suggestions will be of benefit to you . All the best !
Yours sincerely ,
Li Hua

Text 10
Before I go on vacation,I always plan my trip very carefully.I usually go online to look up all the necessary information, because I don't trust the descriptions in the guidebooks or what the travel agents tell me.To begin with,I look up possible destinations and compare them carefully to see which one best suits my needs. Then I check the cost of travelling to that particular place. If I'm going by plane, then I have to compare prices for different airlines in order to get the cheapest tickets. If I'm travelling by train, then I have to look into train prices or special ticket offices.I seldom travel by bus, because of the high rate of traffic accidents on the highway.I also need to check hotels.Usually,I choose to stay at cheap hotels. Finally,I try to plan how much I need to spend on meals and sightseeing. If I plan carefully,I can usually have a good time for the lowest cost.
