Teaching aims:
1. Learn the useful new words and expressions in discussing a balanced diet.
2. Understand the concept of a balanced diet by discussing the different kinds of food.
3. Skim the text for the main idea (a competition between two restaurants).
4. Scan the text for the two menus of the restaurants and the result of WangPeng’s research
5. Be aware of the importance of a balanced diet and be able to develop a personal healthy diet.
Teaching importance:
Enable students to learn the energy-giving food, body-building food, protective food and understand the real meaning of “balanced diet”
Teaching difficulty:
Enable students to improve WangPeng’s and YongHui’s menus more balanced and healthy then give reasons.

Step1.Lead-in
T provides a proverb about food “You are what you eat.” for the Ss, and gets the Ss choose the right answer: (B) (2minutes)
A. You will become what you eat.
B. Your health is decided by what you eat.
Step2. Warming up
1. T gives three meals a day diet of her family member’s,then ask the Ss to judge if their diet are healthy or nor, if not, guides the Ss to give reasons . (3minutes)

4. Discuss the question: “What is a balanced diet?” (2 minutes)

5. T asks the Ss the question “so if my family members don’t keep a balanced diet, what may happen to us? Then shows pictures for the Ss, lets them understand the results if we don’t eat a balanced diet. (1munite)
Step3.Reading
T guides the Ss describe the pictures in the textbook; help them to predict what the passage about. (2minute)
Ss read the passage to confirm their prediction.
(Ss read the first two sentences of paragraph1&2 then decide which one is bout the story)

At the library WangPeng was surprised to find that his restaurant served too much fat and YongHui’s too much little. Even though her customers might get thin after eating YongHui’s food, they were not eating enough energy-giving food to keep them fit.
5.Ss discuss the two menus based on the concept of a balanced diet add more food to the menus to make them balanced, then give report. (10 minutes)

2. Make a list of cooking skills in “Come and Eat Here (1)”.
