一、简单句(Simple Sentences)
只有一个主谓结构的独立句叫简单句。在简单句中,主语和谓语可以由一个词或短语充当,也可以由两个或两个以上的词或短语充当,组成并列的主语或并列的谓语。除了主语和谓语之外,简单句中还可以有宾语、定语、状语、补语等。简单句主要有八种类型:
1.主谓(S+V)
2.主谓宾(S+V+O)
3.主谓宾宾(S+V+O+O)
4.主系表(S+V+P)
5.主谓宾宾补(S+V+O+C)
6.主谓状(SVA)
7.主谓宾状(SVOA)

二、并列句(Compound Sentences)
并列句由两个或两个以上并列而又独立的简单句构成。在并列句中,这些简单句常由并列连词连在一起。并列连词所连接的简单句被称为分句。常见的并列连词有and, but, yet, while, for, or, so和表示并列关系的both. . . and. . . , not. . . but. . . , either. . . or. . . ,neither. . . nor. . . , not only. . . but also. . . 等。

三、主从复合句(Complex Sentences)
(一)主从复合句的结构
由一个主句和一个或一个以上的从句构成的句子叫复合句。在复合句中主句是全句的主体,从句是全句的一个成分,不能独立。主句与从句之间用关联词连接起来。此时关联词也叫从属连词,它在主句与从句之间起连接作用。
The film had begun when we got to the cinema. 我们到达电影院的时候,电影已经开演了。
(二)主从复合句的分类
根据从句对主句的修饰、限定和补充作用,主从复合句主要分为名词性从句、定语从句和状语从句。
1.名词性从句
在句子中起名词作用的从句叫名词性从句。名词性从句的功能相当于名词词组,它在复合句中能担任主语、宾语、表语、同位语,因此根据它在句中不同的语法功能,名词性从句又可分为主语从句、宾语从句、表语从句和同位语从句。
引导名词性从句的连接词可分为三类:
从属连词:that, whether, if(不充当从句的任何成分)
连接代词:what, whatever, who, whoever, whom, whose, which, whichever
连接副词:when, where, how, why, whenever, wherever
It doesn't matter so much whether you will come or not. 你来还是不来不怎么重要。
His suggestion is that we (should) change our course. 他的建议是我们应该改变路线。
I hope (that) everything is all right. 我希望一切都好。
The fact that he had not said anything surprised everybody. 他没有讲话这个事实使大家感到惊奇。
2.定语从句
定语从句分为限制性定语从句和非限制性定语从句。限制性定语从句对先行词起修饰限制作用;非限制性定语从句对先行词起补充说明作用。定语从句中的所有关系词不但有具体意义而且都在从句中充当一定的成分。在非限制性定语从句中,先行词与定语从句往往由逗号隔开。
关系代词:who, whom, whose, which, that等。
关系副词:when, where, why等。
在定语从句中,关系副词=介词+which。
I was the only person in our office who was invited. 我是我们办公室里唯一一个被邀请的人。
We are willing to do anything that is good for the people. 我们愿意做对人民有益的任何事情。
Can you tell me the office where he works 你能告诉我他工作的办公室吗
3.状语从句
状语从句指句子用作状语时,起副词作用的句子。它可以修饰谓语、形容词、副词或整个句子。状语从句一般由连词(从属连词)引导,也可以由词组引导。按意义可以分为时间、地点、原因、目的、结果、条件、方式、比较、让步等状语从句。
I didn't manage to do it until you explained how. 直到你解释了怎么做后,我才会做。(时间状语从句)
Since/As the weather is so bad, we have to delay our journey. 由于天气那么糟,我们不得不推迟我们的旅程。(原因状语从句)
You must speak louder so that/in order that you can be heard by all. 为了让别人都能听见,你必须大点声。(目的状语从句)
He is such a young boy that he can't go to school. 这男孩年龄太小,不能上学。(结果状语从句)
As long as we don't lose heart, we'll realize our dreams. 只要我们不灰心,我们就会实现梦想。(条件状语从句)
Although it's raining, they are still working in the fields. 虽然在下雨,但他们仍在地里干活。(让步状语从句)
