感恩节是北美洲独有的节日，始于1621年。
1863年，美国总统林肯将它定为国家假日，并且规定每年11月的第四个星期四为美国的感恩节。
感恩节有四天假期。借着长假，很多人都会赶回家庆祝佳节，所以，美国感恩节的热闹程度绝不亚于中国的中秋节。
美国感恩节由来
1620年，“五月花”号船满载英国国内清教徒到达美洲。移民处在饥寒交迫之中，冬天过去时，移民只剩下50人。这时，心地善良的印第安人给移民送来了生活必需品，教他们狩猎、捕鱼种植玉米、南瓜。在印第安人的帮助下，移民们获得了丰收，在欢庆丰收的日子，按照宗教传统习俗，移民规定了感谢上帝的日子，并邀请他们一同庆祝节日。
　第一次感恩节的菜谱包括：

Thanksgiving in North America
In most countries, people usually eat traditional food on special holidays. A special day in North America is Thanksgiving. In the United States, this festival is always on the fourth Thursday in November, but in Canada it falls on the second Monday in October. Thanksgiving is a time to give thanks for food in the autumn and other good things people enjoy in life. Families see Thanksgiving as a time to get together and usually celebrate it with a big family meal. The main dish of this meal is almost always turkey, a large bird. To go with the turkey, people often prepare other things, such as gravy, cornbread, mashed potatoes, and pumpkin for apple pie.

Making a turkey dinner
Here is one way to make turkey for a Thanksgiving dinner.
First, mix together some bread pieces, onions, salt and pepper.
Next, fill the turkey with this bread mix.
Then, put the turkey in a hot oven and cook it for a few hours.
When it is ready, place the turkey on a large plate and cover it with gravy.
Finally, cut the turkey into thin pieces and eat the meat with vegetables like carrots and potatoes.
