【词汇解读1】to one’s surprise意为“令某人惊奇的是”,surprise是名词,one’s指形容词性物主代词或名词所有格,to one’s surprise相当于“主语+ be + surprised”,surprised是形容词。

【拓展】
(1)in surprise表示“惊奇地”,用来修饰动词,一般放在所修饰的动词后面。
The two girls looked at each other in surprise.那两个女孩惊奇地相互看着。
(2)be surprised at表示“对……感到惊奇”,表示主语(人)对某事或某物惊奇,surprised可以被very,too等修饰,作表语或定语。
We are very surprised at the news.听到这个消息我们很诧异。
(3)surprising 使人惊奇的,是形容词,含有主动的意思,作表语或定语,作表语时主语习惯上是事物。

意为 “应该/应当做某事”, 相当于should do sth.,表示根据规定或传统习惯人们不得不做或期待发生的事。be supposed to中的to为动词不定式符号,后接动词原形,be动词有人称和时态的变化。
eg. 1. 在中国与他人第一次见面时你应该握手。
2. 飞机本应该6点钟到。
