In 2015, the latest version of Google's self driving car — a pod like two seater that needs no gas pedal or steering wheel — made its first appearance on public roads. It can drive, brake and recognize road dangers without human intervention.
However, the new vehicle is not designed for long trips. It lacks air bags and other safety devices required by the federal government. It cannot go more than 25 miles per hour. The vehicle is electric and has to be recharged after 80 miles. And it can only drive in areas that have been thoroughly mapped by Google.
The final goal, says Google's co founder Sergey Brin, is computer controlled cars that can get rid of human error, which is a factor in an estimated 90 percent of the 1.2 million road deaths that occur worldwide each year. Self driving cars also could improve traffic blocking and transport the elderly and disabled.
Convincing drivers that driverless technology is safe is one of the difficulties the company must overcome. Earlier this week, in response to questions to the Associated Press, Google acknowledged 11 minor accidents in the six years when it has been testing autonomous cars. Urmson, who directs Google's self driving car project, says the company is proud of that record. He says all but one of the accidents were caused by drivers in other cars.
“Consumers question whether they can trust self driving cars to work all the time,” says the consulting firm J. D. Power and Associates. In a 2013 survey of US drivers, J. D. Power found only one in five was interested in a fully autonomous car.
Google isn't alone in developing self driving cars. Mercedes Benz, Infiniti and other brands already have advanced driver assistance systems. Unlike Google, automakers think self driving cars will arrive feature by feature instead of all at once, giving people plenty of time to adapt to autonomous driving.
But Urmson says that approach is “fundamentally wrong”. “We believe that's like saying, ‘If I work really hard at jumping, one day I'll just be able to fly,’” he said.
24.What does the underlined word “intervention” in Paragraph 1 mean
A.Invention. B.Interruption C.Intelligence. D.Involvement.
25.According to the text, Google's self driving car ________.
A.is powered by gas and electricity B.is equipped with safety devices
C.has limited driving areas D.can travel very fast
26.We can learn from Urmson's words that self driving cars ________.
A.are safer than traditional cars B.need a long period of testing
C.fail to meet Google's requirements D.are more intelligent than humans
27.What is the main idea of Paragraph 5
A.Consumers trust self driving cars.
B.Google faces many technology difficulties.
C.Most people are doubtful about self driving cars.
D.Many companies plan to develop self driving cars.

Before we upload a photo of ourselves to social media, chances are that we'll use an app to smooth our skin, make our eyes look bigger, and give us longer eyelashes and fuller lips. With a couple of taps on our mobile phone, we're able to get a quick fix and present the “best” version of ourselves to the world.
However, the problem is, when we simply edit our imperfections away, we're also changing the way we look at ourselves.
Recently, researchers published the article Selfies — LivingintheEraofFilteredPhotographs. The article analysed photo editing apps' bad impacts on people's self esteem and their potential to cause appearance anxieties.
Researchers also warned that such apps are blurring the lines between reality and fantasy. “These apps allow one to change his or her appearance in minutes and follow an unrealistic standard of beauty,” the article reads.
In the past, people may have compared their looks to those of celebrities. But for today's young people, beauty standards are most likely set by what they see on social media. “From birth, they are born into an age of social platforms where their feelings of self worth can be based purely on the number of likes and followers that they have, which is linked to how good they look,” British doctor Tijion Esho said.
This is why many young people suffer an identity crisis when it comes to how they look. “Now you've got this daily comparison of your real self to this intentional or unintentional fake self that you present on social media,” said Renee Engeln.
Engeln further pointed out that when people spend too much time making such comparisons, they may become “beauty sick” and find it difficult to accept what they actually look like. “Because between you and the world is a mirror; it's a mirror that travels with you everywhere. You can't seem to put it down,” she said.
So when we look in a real mirror, we shouldn't think to ourselves, “Do I look as good as myself in the filtered photos?” Instead, we should think, “I feel good; I have my health.”
28.What phenomenon is described in Paragraph 1
A.People's preference for photo editing apps. B.People's addiction to social media.
C.People's new images in digital ages. D.People's concern about their health.
29.How do researchers think photo editing apps affect people
A.They have more confidence in themselves. B.They possess a standard of fantastic beauty.
C.They care less about their appearances. D.They find their potential of beauty.
30.Why do people suffer an identity crisis
A.Because they hide themselves on social platforms.
B.Because they try to present their real self on social media.
C.Because they base their self worth on their looks.
D.Because they find it difficult to be their real self.
31.What advice does Engeln give to the young people
A.To admire themselves in the real mirror. B.To satisfy themselves in the filtered photos.
C.To bring a mirror with them everywhere. D.To be content with their own health.
D
If you are worried about the planet, please make sure your rubbish is buried under ground.
People talk about “reduce, reuse, and recycle”. It sounds like a good idea. There is a problem, though. Recycling costs too much money.
Even the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) says it only makes sense economically and environmentally to recycle about 35 percent of abandoned (废弃的) materials. Among those materials are paper and aluminum cans. Recycling 1 ton of paper or aluminum cans, the agency says, can save about 3 tons of CO2 emissions (排放物) over producing those materials anew. Paper producers pay for the trees they process. If it were cost effective to recycle paper, producers would be beating down your door to buy it. But it isn't. That means it's more expensive to recycle old paper than to cut trees and then replant trees for processing.
Plastic can be recycled too. Given the recent drop in crude oil prices, it is now cheaper to make a new plastic container than to recycle an old one. Even if that is not true, the EPA says that recycling a ton of plastic saves only about a ton of CO2. However, it doesn't take into account the water most consumers use to wash their plastic containers before having them recycled. TheNewYorkTimes journalist John Tierney recently wrote, “If you wash plastic in water that was heated by electricity, then the effort of your recycling could be more carbon in the atmosphere.”
Glass is another recyclable material. To reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 1 ton you have to recycle 3 tons of glass. If one includes the cost of collecting glass waste from neighbourhoods, and the pollution produced by the collection trucks and the recycling process itself, glass recycling creates more greenhouse gas emissions and is more expensive than making new glass, which comes primarily from sand that exists everywhere.
If recycling were truly cost effective, private companies would be lining up at your doorstep to buy your rubbish. Don't__look__now__because__they're__not__there.
32.What's the EPA's attitude to recycling aluminum cans
A.It is helpful to the environment. B.It is actually a waste of money.
C.It costs less than recycling paper. D.It costs the same as producing new cans.
33.What increases the cost of recycling plastic
A.The crude oil. B.The water pollution.
C.The process of cleaning it. D.The electricity for lights.
34.What can be learnt about making new glass
A.It results in lots of waste in neighbourhood.
B.The material for new glass can be easily got.
C.It is slightly more expensive than recycling glass.
D.Making 3 tons of new glass produces 1 ton of CO2 emissions.
35.What does the author mean by saying the underlined sentence
A.Recycling will disappear soon.
B.Companies will line up at your doorstep.
C.Recycling is a way to deal with your rubbish.
D.Companies won't bother to collect discarded materials.

第二节 概要写作(满分25分)
阅读下面短文,根据其内容写一篇60词左右的内容概要。
Over the past few years, there has been a big increase in the number of people sharing information online. In this article, we will learn about some positive factors regarding people sharing information online.
We often share information with our friends in the office or at home to educate, entertain, or pleasantly surprise them. In this way, we can connect with others. This is also true while sharing information online. If you look at the Facebook of your friends, you will realize that most of their updates are usually famous quotes, entertaining videos, inspirational images, funny jokes, etc. 94% of those who responded to a survey by TheNewYorkTimes said they put a lot of thoughts into how the content they were sharing would be beneficial to others.
A lot of people share information online to portray (描述) their true self to the outside world.
Some people, especially those who are shy and not comfortable to talk about their areas of interest in the presence of others, find it extremely convenient to share that information online with like minded individuals.
78% of the respondents in the study of TheNewYorkTimes said they shared information online because it helped them develop better relationships. Today, a lot of people do not have the time to meet each other in person, and the Internet has become a great substitute. A lot of people now “meet” each other online, rather than in conventional places like restaurants and pubs.
Lastly, when we share our thoughts online, we are actively engaging with the vast community of people who are a part of the World Wide Web. Sharing information will make a difference to the viewpoint of others, or add to their understanding about the world.

Text 10
In many countries now the drivers and front passenger are told to wear seat belts. Most doctors believe that seat belts save people from being seriously hurt in an accident. But there are some people who still think that it is more dangerous to wear a seat belt than not to wear one. They say that a seat belt may trap one in a car that is burning, or that has fallen into a river or the sea and is sinking.
But less than half of car accidents lead to fire or sinking, and in any case, a seat belt may easily save a person from being killed. He or she is able to undo the seat belt immediately and get out of the car that is on fire or sinking.
Some people who are against seat belts also sometimes say that without one, one may be thrown right out of a car if an accident happens. But doctors will tell you that is the last thing one wants to happen: if one is thrown out of a car, one hits something, usually the road, and usually hard and at a high speed. So it is better to remain inside in the case of an accident.
Now, I hope you can see why it is necessary to wear a seat belt.
