Many libraries around the world are as amazing in their architecture and organization as they are in the huge amount of knowledge they contain. With shelves and shelves of books, various collections and amazing historical and cultural displays, there are plenty of undiscovered wonders. More information of them is just a click away.
Beinecke Rare Book Library (New Haven, Connecticut)
Yale University has one of the most beautiful college campuses in America, and one of its most interesting features is the Beinecke Rare Book Library. Inside there is a statue of its main founder that rises up high.
Vennesla Library (Vennesla, Norway)

The building hosts a coffee shop, open meeting spaces, classrooms for children and adult education courses, and a cinema. It is mainly built out of wood. The long, thin beams (横梁) on the inside were designed to look like the inside of a whale.
Suzzallo Library (Seattle)
Among the many beautiful features of the campus at the University of Washington, such as its cherry flowers and a light rail station, Suzzallo Library was built in the Collegiate Gothic style. Its buttresses (扶壁) are decorated with 18 statues featuring famous academic s and writers such as Plato, Shakespeare, Leonardo da Vinci, Dante, Galileo, Beethoven, Isaac Newton and Charles Darwin.
Library of Muyinga (Muyinga, Burundi)

Basketball had always been a huge part of my life ever since I was little, and it had been my favorite sport until high school. I was captain of the team in my second year of high school. I felt I had to do very well. The stress I put myself under was unhealthy: I felt as if I couldn’t make mistakes, and that stopped me enjoying the game I once loved. I finished my second-year basketball season and had no fun at all.
My Spanish teacher came up to me after my second-year basketball season, asking if I had ever thought about playing Unified (融合的) Basketball. Unified Sports joins people with intellectual or physical disabilities (智力或身体缺陷) (called Athletes), and people without disabilities (called Partners), on the same team. The main goal is to build friendships and encourage inclusivity. I had thought about it before, but there was a rule that said I couldn’t play Unified if I played basketball for the school. So, I finally decided to quit school basketball.
Quitting basketball was not easy. I received strong opposition from my parents and the coaches as well as my friends who were on the team. It was not a popular or traditional decision, but I knew it was the right one for me. Walking into my first Unified practice, I did not know what to expect. I awkwardly (尴尬地) introduced myself to a few of the Unified Athletes, but after the first day, it already seemed like we were becoming a family. We won a lot of games, but we also had the most fun I’ve ever had. All the stress I used to feel disappeared when I played with them. Seeing the Athletes score their first point s of the season and then dance down the whole court excitedly is one of my favorite basketball memories.
Unified Sports opened my eyes to how much more there is to sports than winning and losing. The Athletes on the team thought that I was there to help them, but they did not know how much they helped me.
( )24.How did the author find playing basketball in his second year of high school
A.It did no good to his physical health. B.It took up too much of his free time.

( )25.What was the reaction of the author’s parents to his decision to quit basketball
A.They were against it. B.They thought it was right for him.
C.They introduced another coach to the author. D.They took the author to hospital.
( )26.How did the author feel after taking up Unified Basketball
A.Awkward and silly. B.Stressed and bored. C.Safe and confident. D.Relaxed and happy.
( )27.Which of the following can be the best title for the text
A.My Love of Basketball B.Unified Sports Changed My Life
C.My Memories of Playing Basketball D.Sports Helped Me Make Lasting Friendships

As you walk around the UK in March, you might notice that some people are wearing a daffodil (水仙花) on their coats. The British wear these yellow flowers to show they support one of this country’s best-known charities: Marie Curie.
Marie Curie tries to ensure everyone who has cancer is cared for in the best possible way. It also helps fun d research into possible cures. Founded in 1948, it has been continuing with its goal ever since.
The charity was named after Marie Curie, a famous scientist. She experimented with newly-discovered elements to create the theory of radioactivity (放射性). Unfortunately, over-exposure to the radioactive elements made her develop a disease and die in 1934. Marie Curie won the Nobel Prize in two different fields. Because of her pioneering work, the charity decided on the name of Marie Curie.
The daffodil is one of the first plants to flower during spring in the UK, which marks the return of flowering plants to the ecosystem after winter. Because of this, the charity uses the daffodil as a symbol, hoping cancer patients could recover from sickness.
Everyone you see wearing a daffodil has contributed to the charity, but each daffodil is worth only what you want to pay for it. The charity does ask that you stick to a minimum amount of 1.
The charity encourages people to start wearing their daffodils at the start of March, when the “Great Daffodil Appeal” kicks off. But that doesn’t mean you can only wear them in March. People are sometimes seen walking around with daffodils on their clothes all year round.

Food blogs, celebrities, and nutritionists all advocate the benefits of eating organic (有机的) fruits and vegetables. But a new study published in Science Advances paints a more complex picture. While organic produce is likely slightly healthier to eat and, in some ways, more sustainable to grow, there are also downsides.
Organic fruits and vegetables typically cost more than conventional (传统的)ones. To get a certificate as organic, farmers must meet specific criteria (标准), including growing produce without the use of genetic engineering and chemical inputs (输入). Without these methods, the growing process typically requires more labor, time, and money, a cost that is passed down to consumers.
It’s true that in many ways, organic is more sustainable than conventional farming. But when it comes to environmental concerns such as greenhouse gas output and water loss, the comparison gets complex. Organic farms produce less greenhouse gas output per acre. However, because they are barred (禁止) from using genetic engineering, pesticides (杀虫剂), and other methods that increase efficiency (效率), organic farms also produce an estimated (估计) 19% to 25% less yield (产量) than conventional farms. While there isn’t a whole lot research on the topic, the few studies that do exist suggest green gas output and water loss might actually be higher on organic farms, on a per unit basis, says study author Verena Seurfert.
In addition, while organic produce is likely more nutritious than conventional fruit and vegetables, there’s not a lot of evidence to support the claim that these often slight differences influence consumer health. The same is true for pesticide remainder. In developed countries, where pesticide use is tightly regulated (控制), there’s no scientific consensus (共识) on how these often slight differences influence human health.
Still, Seurfert stresses that if you can afford to eat organic, you should do so. Organic farms provide safer work environments for workers, plus they support great biodiversity (生物多样性). The real takeaway from her study is not that organic is bad but that the practice needs more studies to increase yield without lowering sustainability.
But if you can’t afford to buy organic produce, don’t stress too much, particularly from a nutritional perspective.
( )32.What does the underlined word “downsides” in Paragraph 1 most probably mean
A.Dangers. B.Drawbacks C.Benefits. D.Differences.
( )33.Which key factor makes it hard to compare organic farming and conventional farming when it comes to environmental concerns
A.The yield. B.The price. C.The water loss. D.The labor.
( )34.Which of the following will the author most probably agree with
A.Farmers, work environment should be improved.
B.Organic produce should be made more efficiently.
C.It isn’t wise for consumers to buy organic products.
D.Pesticide remainder does no harm to people’s health.
( )35.In the author’s opinion, why should we support organic produce
A.It’s environmentally friendly. B.It’s more nutritious.
C.It helps keep the variety of plants. D.It’s safer for consumers.

根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
Jumping rope is popular but we tend to ignore (忽视) its benefits. 36 A study found that college men who spent 10 minutes jumping rope daily for six weeks improved their cardiovascular (心血管的) fitness just as much as college men who spent thirty minutes jogging for the same time. Here are some benefits of jumping rope.
37
Since most of your major muscles are working when you jump rope, the exercise creates a lot of heat in the body. Your body needs to burn more fuel to produce this energy, so it burns lots of calories. It burns more calories than any other exercises, such as jogging, cycling and swimming.
Improves coordination (协调)
Jumping rope requires good coordination, especially as you advance to more skilled moves.
38 It improves coordination by requiring several body parts to communicate in order to complete one movement. The feet must jump in time with the wrists turning in order to create a continuous jumping motion.
Reduces injury risk
With your improved coordination from jumping rope, you’ll be less likely to get hurt either during exercise or in daily activities. 39 As a result, you are more agile (灵活的) and your body awareness is improved greatly. This guarantees fewer injuries.
Improves heart health
Since jumping rope gets your heart pumping, it’s great for your cardiovascular system and heart health. Jumping rope can increase your VO2 Max (最大摄氧量), the measure of the maximum amount of oxygen a person can breathe during exercise. The higher someone’s VO2 max, the more cardiovascular endurance (耐受力) they have.
Jumping rope gives us a full-body workout with just one piece of equipment and one move. 40 Jump to some music or take your rope to a nearby park to enjoy the fun.
A.Burns calories
B.Improves muscles
C.It benefits us not only physically but also mentally.
D.You can quickly swing the rope twice within each jump.
E.It may even be more effective than other forms of exercise.
F.Jumping rope forces you to move your upper and lower body together.
G.So jumping rope helps you stay calm, clear and focused in everything you do.

“How can I get that fifty dollars ” he thought to himself. His mind was wondering when Mother’s voice disturbed his thoughts. “Kareem, I just ran into Aunty Kim, our neighbour who just moved in next door. Her son, Shawn, will cycle to school next week. Could you show him the shortcut (捷径) to school later It’s Saturday anyway!” Hearing this, Kareem had no option but to obey it, He knew Mother had probably already volunteered his service to Aunty Kim. “Oh, here’s a mail from your Grandma. Open it!” added Mother.
Kareem’s grandmother lived abroad and she would send him photos and cards. He opened the envelope and pulled out a greeting card. Incredibly, a fifty dollar note slipped out as well! Kareem was wild with joy. Waving the note in the air, he shouted happily, “Enough money for my bike!”

While the boys were cycling, a squirrel (松鼠) appeared behind a parked car and dashed across the road so suddenly that the boys knocked into each other and fell down heavily. How to Protect the Environment
As we all know, June 5 is the World Environment Day. As high school students, we should contribute to environmental protection.
At present, tail gas pollution is very serious, and we’d better take public transport or ride a bike instead of driving. In addition, plastic pollution is also severe, and what we can help is to avoid buying plastic-bottled water. Finally, many places lack water. Therefore, when we don’t use tap water, we should turn off the tap immediately.
Take action now and we will have a great impact on the environment!
第二部分
“A Speedster X bike or two old models ” Kareem hesitated. He thought to himself, “Whatever happened was not my fault. I’m buying Speedster X anyway.” However, as the image of Shawn and his disabled bike flashed before him repeatedly, he felt a shiver running down his body. An inner voice insisted that he should reach out a helping hand. Just at that moment, his initial guilt gave way to a sense of responsibility. After a quick mental calculation, he decided to buy two old models.
“Hi!” Kareem appeared at Shawn’s door cheerfully and asked, “Want to ride together ” Shawn got annoyed at the silly question. He moved his lips as if to say something but before he could say anything. Kareem took a stride to the side, revealing two shiny identical bikes magically. “What... How come No, it couldn’t be…”, Shawn beamed with excitement, tears clouding his eyes. Mother, who had witnessed the scene from the window, walked up to Kareem and patted his shoulder gently and playfully, “Son! I’m really proud of you.”
