Have you ever dreamed of having a fashionable watch of great value
A small watchmaker in Switzerland in 1922 designed the first automatic (自动的) watch to show the day, month, and date. Only seven of these splendid watches were ever made and these watches were almost lost to history. Today, it is so hard to get an original (首批的) watch that some watch historians are even willing to offer $200,000 for one.
These watches attracted a lot of people for their splendid color, fashionable style, and new uses in the 1920s. The owners of the watches were admired and set apart from the crowd. Because the number of the original watches is very limited, owning such a watch will make you feel very special.
Today, you are offered the same kind of watch with improvement. It has a 24-jewel mechanical (机械的) movement, the kind desired by watch collectors. The watchmaker has made the movement of the watch much more modern with an automatic rotor (上弦装置) so that the watch never needs to be wound by hand. The watch comes in a very beautiful case with a crocodile design on it. To get a watch in such a perfect design means to get a chance to know a piece of watch-making history and to wear such a watch will show your personal taste and social position.
You can get the watch either in person or by mail all an affordable price. You will also receive good service from the watch seller. If you are not satisfied with the watch after you get it, you may simply return it within 30 days. Don’t miss the chance to realize your dream.

A. report B. magazine C. text book D. science book

Children have their own rules in playing games. They seldom need a referee (裁判) and rarely take trouble to keep scores. They don’t care much about who wins or loses, and it doesn’t seem to worry them if the game is not finished. Yet, they like games that depend a lot on luck, so that their personal abilities cannot be directly compared. They also enjoy games that move in stages, in which each stage, the choosing of leaders, the picking-up of sides, or the determining of which side shall start, is almost a game in itself.
Grown-ups can hardly find children’s game exciting, and they often feel puzzled at why their kids play such simple game again and again. However, it is found that a child plays games for very important reasons. He can be a good player without having to think whether he is a popular person, and he can find himself being a useful partner to someone of whom he is ordinary afraid. He becomes a leader when it comes to his turn. He can be confident, too, in particular games, that it is his place to give orders, to pretend to be dead, to throw a ball actually at someone, or to kiss someone he has caught.
It appears to us that when children play a game they imagine a situation under their control. Everyone knows the rules, and more importantly, everyone plays according to the rules. Those rules may be childish, but they make sure that every child has a chance to win.

A. Because he can be someone other than himself.
B. Because he can become popular among friends.
C. Because he finds he is always lucky in games.
D. Because he likes the place where he plays a game.
11. Which is the best title for this passage
A. Rules in Children’s Games

There has been a large increase in the number of natural disasters over the past few years, and it is believed that global warming and climate change could cause even more disasters in the future. Some of the world's leading cities are facing disasters like floods and heat waves.
London
London's flood defences are getting older. Since 1982, the Thames Barrier (泰晤士河屏障) has protected the city from the threat of flooding, but it was only designed to last until 2030 and close once every two or three years. About 32 years later the barrier now closes five or six times a year and according to Environment Agency predictions, by 2050 the barrier will be closed on almost every tide if the problem is not solved.
There are 26 underground stations, 400 schools, 16 hospitals, an airport and 80 billion worth of property in London's flood risk area, so large scale flooding would be disastrous.
Paris
Over a six-week period in July and August 2008, more than 11,400 - mainly elderly people - died in France from dehydration (脱水) and extremely high body temperature in a deadly heat wave. Heat waves of similar intensity (强度) are expected every seven years by 2050, so what can be done to make sure such disaster does not happen again
One solution is to have air conditioners installed (安装) in elderly care homes. But this is considered a short-term solution, as the increase in demand for electricity also increases carbon emission (排放) .
In Paris the local authorities are encouraging architects to design new types of buildings such as the building “Flower Tower”, which uses a covering of bamboo to act as a natural air conditioner.
Shanghai
Shanghai is the fastest growing city on Earth. It has a population of 18 million and is only four meters above sea level. Sea levels are predicted to rise by 20 cm within the next century.
About 250, 000 people move to Shanghai every year in search of work, placing extra demands on energy consumption. China depends heavily on coal-fired power stations, but these emissions increase temperatures and, in turn, warmer seas increase the risk of typhoons.
12. What problem should be settled now in London
A. How to protect the city's properly.
B. Where to build its flood defences.
C. How to use the Thames Barrier to protect the city.
D. How to improve the function of the old flood defences.
13. Which of the following measures can't solve the heat wave disaster in Paris
A. Putting up new types of buildings with a covering of bamboo.
B. Having air conditioners installed in elderly care homes.
C. Forbidding the city to build “Flower Tower”
D. Encouraging architects to design new types of buildings.
14. The major threats to Shanghai are __________ .
A. increasing population and coal-fired power stations
B. rising sea levels and typhoons
C. extremely high temperature and rising sea levels
D. extra demands on energy consumption and typhoons
15. The purpose of the passage is to __________ .
A. tell us how to protect the big cities
B. give advice on how to defend natural disasters
C. explain what causes flood and heat waves
D. warn us of the increasing natural disasters in big cities
【答案】12. D 13. C 14. B 15. D

About 32 years later the barrier now closes five or six times a year and according to Environment Agency predictions, by 2050 the barrier will be closed on almost every tide if the problem is not solved.
根据“In Paris the local authorities are encouraging architects to design new types of buildings such as the building “Flower Tower”(在巴黎,当地官员鼓励建筑师设计新的建筑类型,例如Flower Tower楼)”可知,C项的Forbidding正好与文意相反。故选C。
【14题详解】
细节理解题。文章最后两段“Sea levels are predicted to rise by 20 cm within the next century.”(海平面预计在下个世纪将上升20厘米)以及“ China depends heavily on coal-fired power stations, but these emissions increase temperatures and, in turn, warmer seas increase the risk of typhoons.”(中国严重依赖燃煤发电站,但这些排放物会增加温度,反过来,变暖的海洋会增加台风的风险)介绍了上海面临的威胁,其中第一段说的是海平面升高的威胁,第二段说的是台风的威胁,故选B。

Peter woke up early in the morning. He went downstairs in a hurry and started to have hisbreakfast as quickly as possible.
“Why are you in such a hurry, early bird " Mum asked him. “We will have an English spelling test today, Mum," Peter said. “Mr. White promised to offer prizes to those who get 100 scores. I've been studying the word list since last week. Although the words are difficult, I am well prepared for them.”
Peter reviewed the spelling of each word once more carefully when Dad drove down.
Thirty words later, the test papers were collected by Mr. White. “I am to mark your papers now," he told the class. After marking the test papers, Mr. White said, “Three of you won a prize today for excellent test scores. Peter. David and Mary got 100 percent on the spelling test!" Mr. White praised them. Meanwhile, he gave the three students each a dictionary. Peter's was an English-Chinese dictionary—the one he liked best. Peter was so excited that he held it high when his classmates cheered. "This is my happiest moment,” Peter thought.
After Mr. White gave the test paper back, Peter had a look at the words, feeling proud of his spelling. All of a sudden, the word “contribution" confused him. It didn't seem right. Peter began to compare them after taking out the wordlist. “C-o-n-t-r-i-b-u-s-i-o-n,”he whispered. He had spelledit wrong.
“What am I to do ” Peter said to himself. “I expect my classmates to think I'm a master in spelling. If I tell Mr. White one of my spelling words is wrong, I'll have to give my prize back, or I will become an example for telling a lie". Staring at the red sign “100%” which was written at his test paper, Peter was lost in thought. After a while, he remembered a lesson Mum used to teach him, “We ought to be an honest person.”

1.续写词数应为150左右;

Mr. White held up Peter’s test paper. “Class,” he said, “Peter did something even more important than spelling every word correctly on a test.” Mr.White smiled at Peter. “He taught us all a lesson on being honest.”
Paragraph 2:
Peter looked around and found many of his classmates were smiling at him. “Peter, I want you to have this dictionary because you set a good example for all of us, ” Mr. White said.

C. fashionable style D. new uses

A. report B. magazine C. text book D. science book

8. What is true about children when they play games
A. They can stop playing any time they like.
B. They can test their personal abilities.
C. They want to pick a better team.
D. They don’t need rules.
9. To become a leader in a game, the child has to _________.
A. be a useful partner
B wait for his turn
C. be confident in himself
D. be popular among his playmates
10. Why does a child like playing games
A. Because he can be someone other than himself.
B. Because he can become popular among friends.
C. Because he finds he is always lucky in games.
D. Because he likes the place where he plays a game.
11. Which is the best title for this passage
A. Rules in Children’s Games
B. Advantages of Playing Games for Children
C. Reasons for Children’s Games
D. How to Be a Popular Game Player

A Putting up new types of buildings with a covering of bamboo.
B. Having air conditioners installed in elderly care homes.
C. Forbidding the city to build “Flower Tower”
D. Encouraging architects to design new types of buildings.
14. The major threats to Shanghai are __________ .
A. increasing population and coal-fired power stations
B. rising sea levels and typhoons
C. extremely high temperature and rising sea levels
D. extra demands on energy consumption and typhoons
15. The purpose of the passage is to __________ .
A. tell us how to protect the big cities
B. give advice on how to defend natural disasters
C. explain what causes flood and heat waves
D warn us of the increasing natural disasters in big cities
