B
Travel is one of the most exciting experiences a human being can have. Imagine how Italian traveler Marco Polo must have felt when he found himself on Chinese soil, seeing a way of life quite different from anything he’d seen before.
And how great must it have been to listen to Zhang Qian when he returned to China from his journey through Central Asia and West Asia His brain must have been packed with everything he’d seen and heard, leading to the founding of the Silk Road.
Some people have traveled all over the world, and travel is a way of life to them. They perhaps know what to expect before they travel. That’s why the best travel is when it’s for the first time. Imagine a person who has always wanted to travel to the United States. Of course, they’ve probably seen the Statue of Liberty a thousand times on TV, and the White House, and all the other famous sights. But none of that would compare to the excitement of looking out of the window as the plane lands, watching the cities and streets of the real America come into view.
Although travel is often just for recreation, it’s also educational. We may not know that we are getting an education, but we still are.
We’re learning every day: new words in a new language new people, and new ways of life. But this learning takes place in the school of the world, not the classroom. As we get to know foreign places, we come to understand that there are many different ways to live, and that the way we live isn’t necessarily the best way.
4. The author uses Marco Polo and Zhang Qian as examples to .
A. explain how the Silk Road was founded B. present travel as an amazing experience
C. show how the way people travel has changed D. describe important cultural exchanges in history
5. By saying “the best travel is when it’s for the first time”, the author means .
A. one’s first trip is usually the most challenging
B. no other trip is better than one’s first trip
C. there is always much to learn on one’s first trip
D. people usually make better preparations for their first trip
6. The underlined word “recreation” in Paragraph 4 probably means .
A. fun B. risk C. learning D. knowledge
7. According to the last two paragraphs the author believes that .
A. traveling should be included in formal education
B. traveling improves people’s confidence in their lifestyle
C. foreign journeys can enrich people’s knowledge of the world
D. foreign ways of life are better than our own way of life at home.
【答案】4. B 5. B 6. A 7. C

【4题详解】
推理判断题。根据第一段“Travel is one of the most exciting experiences a human being can have. Imagine how Italian traveler Marco Polo must have felt when he found himself on Chinese soil, seeing a way of life quite different from anything he’d seen before.(旅行是一个人所能拥有的最令人兴奋的经历之一。想象一下,当意大利旅行家马可·波罗来到中国的土地上,看到一种与以往迥然不同的生活方式时,他会作何感想)”以及第二段中“And how great must it have been to listen to Zhang Qian when he returned to China from his journey through Central Asia and West Asia (当张骞游历中亚和西亚回到中国时,听到他的讲述该是多么美妙啊?)”可推知,举的这两个例子是为了表明旅游是令人惊讶的经历。故选B项。
【5题详解】
词句猜测题。根据第三段“They perhaps know what to expect before they travel. That’s why the best travel is when it’s for the first time. Imagine a person who has always wanted to travel to the United States. Of course, they’ve probably seen the Statue of Liberty a thousand times on TV, and the White House, and all the other famous sights. But none of that would compare to the excitement of looking out of the window as the plane lands, watching the cities and streets of the real America come into view.(他们也许知道旅行前会发生什么。这就是为什么最好的旅行是第一次。想象一下,一个人一直想去美国旅行。当然,他们可能已经在电视上看过一千次自由女神像、白宫和所有其他著名景点。但这一切都比不上飞机降落时望向窗外,看到真正的美国城市和街道映入眼帘时的兴奋)”由此判断出作者说“the best travel is when it’s for the first time”的意思是没有旅行能够比得上第一次旅行。故选B项。
【6题详解】

【7题详解】
推理判断题。根据最后一段“As we get to know foreign places, we come to understand that there are many different ways to live, and that the way we live isn’t necessarily the best way.(随着我们对外国的了解,我们开始明白有很多不同的生活方式,我们的生活方式不一定是最好的)”可推知,作者认为出国旅行可以提高人们对世界文化的理解。故选C项。

How do you usually spend your spare time Many people choose to be couch potatoes, but not Luo Han, a 9-year-old from Changsha, Hunan.
Luo Han completes at least two hours of outdoor activities every day and has raised a wave of discussion online. Although he is in primary school, he has already mastered sports like kayaking and paddling. His aptitude for outdoor sports is from his father Luo Ge, who actively encourages him to enjoy nature, rather than focusing only on his learning. After noticing that Luo Han did not go out for enough exercise after school, his father took him to do outdoor activities every day.
Many applauded them. “Exercise can ease brain fog and improve memory. Many students feel stressed about school work, so outdoor activities can help us keep our moods uplifted and improve our learning efficiency.” said Liu Yu, 18, a university freshman. Wang Tao, a parent of a 16-year-old, showed her support for the father. “It’s more than a way to relax. It’s a training of willpower,” she said. Her son He Xin, from Hefei Thomas School, Anhui, is a fan of outdoor sports. Although facing increasing pressure in his studies, he has joined the school’s athletic programs.
However, some have also expressed their concerns. “Two hours isn’t too much for a 9-year-old, but it might be difficult for high school students to guarantee this block of time when school becomes more demanding,” said Huang Xi, 16, from Liyang High School of Jiangsu province.
Ms. Zhu, who has a daughter in middle school, also agreed that two hours is too much for the majority of parents, especially on weekdays. “When I am off duty, I need to do housework. After my daughter finishes her homework, she prefers to watch TV. Neither of us would think of going outside for exercise,” Zhu said.
Other parents are concerned about the safety of outdoor activities. Zhang Zhijin has a son in high school. “Sometimes, teenagers can do crazy and risky things. We worry about accidents,” Zhang said.

Scientists developed vaccines (疫苗)against a new disease in less than 12 months. And yet,18 months after the first of these vaccines, against COVID-19, were put on the market, just 15% of people in developing countries have been fully vaccinated. Such unfairness costs lives and uncovers a long-standing problem that some countries have been forced to depend on others for life-saving science and technology. It is unacceptable, for example, that in Africa, a continent of 54 independent countries and 1.2 billion people, 99% of vaccines are from other countries.
The World Health Organization (WHO)is searching for a way to get vaccines to more people more easily.Last year, the WHO started a program called the mRNA vaccine technology center. The goal of the program is to develop and produce mRNA vaccines and treatments(for COVID-19 and other diseases) in developing countries from the technology used in developed countries highly successful COVID-19 vaccines.
More importantly, the cooperation (合作)between universities and companies based in developing countries is needed to realize the goal. On July 8th,the USA National Institutes of Health, where much of the research on mRNA vaccines was carried out, joined this program to help build vaccine technology centers in developing countries.
Besides the necessity of fairness, outbreaks would end sooner if every country could depend on its own defence. As Larry Brilliant,a scientist of the US National Institutes of Health who helps wipe out smallpox(天花),told Nature,“Fairness is often thought of as a burden(负担),but it is a strategic need in the battle against COVID-19.”
12. Why does the author mention Africa in paragraph 1
A. To lead in the topic.
B. To show the unfairness in vaccines.
C. To stress the importance of vaccines.
D. To say thanks to the help from developed countries.
13. Why did the WHO start the program
A. To make more people in developing countries get vaccines.
B. To build up a center to attract experts in developing vaccines
C. To get the technology used in successful COVID-19 vaccines,
D. To strengthen the cooperation between universities and companies.
14. What can we conclude from the last paragraph
A. Fairness is a burden, so it is not necessary.
B. We’ll win the battle sooner if every country has its defence.
C. Fairness is necessary because it can stop COVID-19 from breaking out.
D. Wiping out smallpox is a strategic need in the battle against COVID-19.
15. What is the most suitable title for the text
A. Why fairness is necessary
B. How did WHO start the program
C. How did scientists develop vaccines
D. Why is a vaccine center for developing countries a must
【答案】12. B 13. A 14. B 15. D

【14题详解】

We’re learning every day: new words in a new language, new people, and new ways of life.

C there is always much to learn on one’s first trip
D. people usually make better preparations for their first trip
6. The underlined word “recreation” in Paragraph 4 probably means .
A fun B. risk C. learning D. knowledge
7. According to the last two paragraphs, the author believes that .
A. traveling should be included in formal education
B. traveling improves people’s confidence in their lifestyle
C. foreign journeys can enrich people’s knowledge of the world
D. foreign ways of life are better than our own way of life at home.

8. Which of the following is true
A. Liu Yu thinks outdoor activities can improve our learning.
B. Outdoor playing is only good to relaxation.
C. Luo Han ’s father thinks learning is more important than exercising.
D. Luo Han’s father thinks exercise on campus is enough for him.
9. What does the author mean by the underlined word “stressed” in Paragraph 3
A. annoyed B. excited C. anxious D. frightened
10. Which of the following may agree with Ms Zhu
A. Huang Xi B. Liu Yu C. Wang Tao D. Luo Han
11. What's the best title of the passage
A. Please go out for exercise B. Daily outdoor play and working

D
