City walking might be a great idea to learn about a city. Instead of simply walking around, city walkers follow certain routes (特定的路线) on different themes (主题). Along the way, they watch, take photos, listen to the guide and take part in fun activities. City walking is getting more and more popular in China.
Xiao Xiao, 30, is the starter of a city walking organization (组织) — Jiuer Studio in Changsha. More than 3,000 people have taken part in her studio’s city walking activities since 2019. “More and more people are getting interested in this.” She said. Her studio gives over 30 city walking routes with themes like old buildings, films, food and cultures.
In her eyes, the charm (魅力) of city walking can be seen in two ways. “For visitors from other cities, it gets them to deeply know a city. For locals, it’s good for them to see something they might have ignored (忽略),” Xiao said.
Wang Yixuan, 24, lived in Changsha. Thanks to city walking, she has visited places that she heard about before but never went to. She walked to the old site (旧址) Xiaoxiang Film Group and a useless, old railway running through the city. After the guide introduced the history of these places, she knew more about the city’s past.

The first time ever I saw you, you were such a little fox (狐狸) and your face was so special, that I couldn’t even take a photo. You looked almost like some kind of new, unknown species. You looked funny and far beyond.
I found that you were different. Though your little brother and sister kept far from this unknown human being (人类), you walked right past my feet. And I found you were even smaller than I thought.
I sat near your “home” for hours and hours. When you and your little brother and sister were small, it kept raining. Everything was dirty, cold and wet. Many of these hours, I truly wanted to know what I was doing there until you suddenly came up, out of the blue. How excited I was. I only remember at that time, it stopped raining at once and the sun came out.
It seemed that you needed a lot of sleep. You rolled up in grass (草丛), closed your eyes and slept. When it rained, your hair used to be curly. In fact, foxes’ coats don’t curl at all, but yours did. Ha! You look like a little rat.
Although you kept smaller than the others, you did grow up to be an energetic fox. You were doing just fine! Your mother kept on feeding you, although not always so warmly. But you, the smallest one, you made it!
For months and months I enjoyed watching you grow up to a real fox with a long nose, but for me, you were the most beautiful fox ever.
Your first crazy play fights with your sister. Your first brave (勇敢的) steps outside your home. It’s wonderful to be allowed to follow all of this so closely. You were great. Thank you, super fox.
