探究三、What is it for?它是用来做什么的？
for表示“（用途，意图，目标，愿望）对，供，适用于……”。例如：These are books ______children.
精讲点拨：1.You can do your homework while you ride your bike. 你可以一边骑自行车，一边做作业。while是连词，引导时间状语从句，意思是“当……的时候，与……同时”。例如：
My mother was washing clothes while my father was watching TV.
while还可以作名词，意思是“一会儿，一段时间”。例如：Can I rest for a while?
2.I’m afraid I can’t afford it. 我恐怕买不起。
1) 在口语中“I’m afraid”作插入语，意思是“恐怕”。另外，I’m afraid常用来委婉地告诉对方不快的消息，或表示拒绝，提出异议。例如：— Can you go shopping with me?
你能和我去买东西吗？
— Sorry, I’m afraid not.
对不起，恐怕去不了。
be afraid常用结构有：be afraid of+名词/代词/v+ing/to do sth.等。例如：
What are you afraid of?
He is afraid of going home by himself.
She was afraid to see you again.
2) afford通常与can/could/be able to连用，意思是“有足够的（金钱，时间）做……”，多用于否定句和疑问句。例如：
We can not afford (to buy) a new car.
我们买不起新车。
We can’t afford the loss of a day.
我们经不起一天(时间)的损失。
