The traditional Chinese lunar calendar divides the year into 24 solar terms, which reflect the Chinese people’s understanding of time. Here several special solar terms are listed.
Rain Water
Rain Water signals the increase in rainfall and rise in temperature. With its arrival, the river water defreezes, wild geese move from south to north, and trees and grass turn green again. Extra care is needed to cope with a returning cold spell in this period. The wet and damp weather during Rain Water period is considered harmful for people’s spleen (脾) and stomach according to Chinese medical practice. Therefore, a bowl of nutritious porridge is the best choice to nourish the body.
Awakening of Insects
As the third solar term in the lunar year, its name implies that animals sleeping in winter are awakened by spring thunder and that the earth begins to come back to life. It is the key time for spring agricultural activities. Modern meteorological science shows that around this period, the earth becomes wet, the hot humid air from the north is strong and creates frequent winds. For this reason, thunder often occurs.
Spring Equinox
Spring Equinox signals the equal length of the day and night time. On the day of the Spring Equinox, the sun is directly above the equator. After the equinox, the sun moves northwards, resulting in gradually longer day time in the Northern Hemisphere. Standing an egg upright is a popular game during this period. It is believed that if someone can make the egg stand, he will have good luck in the future.
Grain Rain
Grain Rain originates from the old saying, “Rain brings up the growth of hundreds of grains”, which shows that this period of rainfall is extremely important for the growth of crops and people are busy working on the land. Grain Rain falls between the end of spring and the beginning of summer, with infrequent cold air moving to the south and lingering cold air in the north. With dry soil, an unsteady atmosphere and heavy winds and sandstorms become more frequent.

When I learned that our community library was hosting a Book Worm Challenge, I got excited. My granddaughter liked reading books and I needed a little inspiration to increase the quality of the books I read, so I suggested we sign up. The goal was to read fifty books in a year. I am an English teacher. This didn’t seem like much of a challenge. Then, I read the small print. There were fifty different types ranging from historical nonfiction to a book with a red cover. Not so easy after all.
The experience created a bond with my granddaughter. We read a couple of the same novels, but mostly read different titles. However, we had interesting conversations based on the similar themes in our books and we discussed the authors’ writing styles, range of words, and our favorites.
Initially, inspired by a stubborn need to meet the goal, I forced myself to make time to visit the worlds and characters of the novels. In the past, excuses created reasons to procrastinate (拖延), but now I found books provided a better alternative. When a new TV series was shown for the first time, I discovered books brought greater joy and engagement. When the house needed cleaning, I remembered it would be dirty again tomorrow. When the dog wanted attention, I held her in one hand and a book in the other. And when a task could not be postponed, I turned on an audio book.
After a year, reading became a habit. My life became more satisfying as I grew intellectually. The realistic stories of life replaced the unrealistic dramas on the screen. Perhaps the greatest benefit I got through my increased reading was the impact it had on my writing. Reading improved my vocabulary, modeled unique styles, provided new insights, and inspired new ideas and a desire to copy other authors' successes.
When I began, fifty reading types looked frightening, but my granddaughter and I both won the title of Extreme Book Worm.

To be fair, the Aike T electric scooter (滑板车) is an interesting and innovative ride by itself. And the fact that its the world's first USB-C enabled electric scooter is icing on the cake.
Its first great feature is that impressive battery. Not only is it removable, which is a nice bonus for anyone that doesn't want to carry a 42 lb (19 kg) scooter around to find a plug, but the battery is also rechargeable via a USB-C charger, just like the kind you likely already use to charge your laptop and other devices. Both the battery and the scooter have a USB-C port, so you don't have to pull the battery out to charge it. Amazingly, if your laptop or phone is low on juice then you can charge up your devices straight from the scooter's battery.
Braking (制动) is done with a combination of a mechanical brake and electric braking. If you get caught in a rain or have to ride through ponding areas, you can be confident that the scooter can take it. The scooter includes GPS anti-theft protection, and there's even keyless smart-lock that uses your phone to unlock the scooter. Next, consider the physical design features. The side- supported wheels don't just look cool, they also make it easier to change a tire. You're unlikely to need to do that often, thought since those tires are less likely to get flat.
If there's any downside lo the Aike T electric scooter, it's the lack of shock absorption. So you’re going to fed bumps(颠簸) like sidewalk cracks and cobblestones. Apart from that, the scooter can't run (aster than 20 mph (32 km/h), which is a far cry from the faster electric scooters we’ve tested.
While it's a high end electric scooter that will last a lot longer% it certainly costs more than a budget scooter. So make your choice based on your own needs.
12. (3分)What is the feature of the scooter battery
A.It is easy to carry around.
B.It can serve as a power bank.
C.It can be charged through a laptop.

13. (3分)What does the third paragraph imply
A.No lock is needed for the scooter.
B.Braking is generated through phones.
C.The scooter is good for water resistance.
D.The scooter is controlled fully automatically.
14. (3分)What's the disadvantage of the scooter
A.Fixed speed.
B.Easily-broken tires.
C.Unappealing physical design.
D.Less comfort on lough roads.
15. (3分)How does the author present the text
A.Objectively. B.Approvingly.

Is it all right if I miss practice today " The coach put his arm gently around his shoulder and said, "Take the rest of the week off, son. And don't even plan to come back to the game on Saturday."
Saturday arrived, and the game was not going well. One possible version:
Dear Jack,
Thanks for your letter! I'm very glad to share with you my idea about furthering my study in Traditional Chinese Medicine at university in reply to your email.
With a history of over 2000 years,TCM has formed a unique system to diagnose and cure illness, from which generations and generations of Chinese people benefit. I feel really proud whenever I see patients of my father and grandfather leave their clinic with satisfaction and hope. So I've made up my mind to succeed their career and major in TCM to become a doctor. I believe it'll turn out an excellent cause for me to pursue.
Best wishes.
