1. prepare for an exam(教材P65 1a)
(1) prepare 作动词,意为“使做好准备;把……准备好”。preparation为名词,意为“准备;准备工作”。prepare for 意为“为……做准备”

exam 侧重指正式的考试,如期末考试、入学考试。
test 侧重指平时进行的规模较小的测试。

(1) I’d love to, but …意为“我愿意,但是……”,用来表示委婉地拒绝对方的邀请,其中不定式符号to不能省略。

(2) I’m afraid … 表示“我恐怕……”,用于礼貌地说出令人不快、失望或感到遗憾的事。常用I’m afraid so“恐怕如此”表示肯定;用I’m afraid not “恐怕不行”表示否定。
如:I’m afraid (that) it’s not finished yet.
