By the way, my name is Joe.”
She had a flat tire(轮胎). Joe crawled under the car, changed the tire. But he got dirty and his hands hurt. She could not thank him enough and asked him how much she owed him. He told her that if she really wanted to pay him back, the next time she saw someone who needed help, she could give that person the assistance they needed, and Joe added,” And think of me.”

Many people say dolphins are very intelligent. They seem to be able think, understand, and learn things quickly. But they are smart like humans or more like cats or dogs? Dolphins use their brains differently from people. But scientists say dolphin intelligence and human intelligence are alike in some ways. How?
FACT 1: Talk to Me
Like humans, every dolphin has its own “name”. The name is a special whistle(口哨声). Each dolphin chooses a specific whistle for itself, usually by its first birthday. Actually, scientists think dolphins, like people, “talk” to each other about a lot of things, such as their age, their feelings, or finding food. And, like humans dolphins use a system of sounds and body language to communicate. But understanding their conversations is not easy for humans. No one “speaks dolphin” yet, but some scientists are trying to learn.
FACT 2: Let’s Play
Dolphins are also social animals. They live in groups called pods, and they often join others from different pods to play games and have fun ---just like people. In fact, playing together is something only intelligent animals do.
FACT 3: Fishermen’s Helpers
Dolphins and humans are similar in another way: both make plans to get something they want. In the sea of southern Brazil, for example, dolphins use a interesting strategy to get food. When fish are near a boat, dolphins signal to the fishermen to put their nets in the water. Using this method, the men can catch a lot of fish. What is the advantage for the dolphins? Why do they assist the men? The dolphins get to eat some of the fish.
56. What is the text mainly about?
A. The comparison between dolphins and humans.
B. The relationship between dolphins and humans.
C. Different types of dolphins.
D. The habitual behavior of dolphins.
57. What can we learn about dolphins according to the text?
A. A dolphin gets its food from its mother.
B. Dolphins communicate a lot with one another.
C. Dolphin conversations are easy to understand for men.
D. Dolphins communicate by whistling instead of using body language.
58. We can infer from the text that dolphins identify others by .
A. their looks B. their whistles C. their smell D. their sex
59. Which of the following best describes dolphins?
A. Talkative and easygoing.
B. Carful and hardworking.
C. Brave and determined.
D. Friendly and smart.
60. The text is most probably taken from a .
A. fiction story
B. book review
C. science magazine
D. personal diary

Homestay provides English language students with the opportunity to speak English outside the classroom and the experience of being part of a British home.
What to Expect
The host will provide accommodation and meals. Rooms will be cleaned and bedcovers changed at least once a week. You will be given the house key and the host is there to offer help and advice as well as to take an interest in your physical and mental health.
Accommodation Zones
Homestays are located in London mainly in Zones2,3 and of the transport system. Most hosts do not live in the town centre as much of central London is commercial and not residential(居住的). Self-Catering Accommodation in Private Homes

This kind of accommodation offers an independent lifestyle and is more suitable for the long-stay student. 第II卷(共35分)
第一节:阅读表达(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)
阅读短文,并按照题目要求用英语回答问题。
My name is Clara. I still remember that chilly December day, sitting in science class. I’d finished a worksheet early and picked up a TIME for Kids magazine. A piece of news caught my eye: NASA was holding an essay contest to name its Mars rover(火星探测器).Before I even knew anything else about it, a single word flooded my 11-year-old mind, Curiosity.
I couldn’t want for the bell to ring so I could get started on my essay. That afternoon, I raced home, sat down at the computer, and typed until my fingers ached. “Curiosity is an everlasting flame that burns in everyone’s mind...”
Five months later, my mom received a phone call, and immediately, a wide smile spread across her face.
On August 5,2012,at 10:31 p.m, the rover named Curiosity touched down safely on the surface of Mars, and I was honored to have a front-row seat in NASA.
Curiosity is such an important part of who I am. I have always been fascinated by the stars, the planets, the sky and the universe. I remember as a little girl, my grandmother and I would sit together in the backyard for hours. She’d tell me stories and point out the stars, Grandma lived in China, thousands of miles away from my home in Kansas, but the stars kept us together even when we were apart. They were always there, yet there was so much I didn’t know about them. That’s what I love so much about space.
People often ask me why we go to faraway places like Mares. My answer is simple because we’re curious. We human beings do not just hole up in one place. We are constantly wondering and trying to find out what’s over the hill and beyond the horizon.

Text 8
W: Hi, everyone. I’m going to talk to you today about a really interesting project I took part in this summer. It’s an event called One-Day Clean-up and its aim it to clear the world’s natural environments of rubbish. Everyone in my team was very friendly. Pretty much everyone on my team is planning to go to university next year or the year after. One or two people are hoping to study medicine but most of us actually want to do geography. Oh, and a couple are planning to do zoology.
You’d be amazed at how much rubbish there was. In just three hours we collected 179kilos. The team who collected the most rubbish collected 187 Kilos. The other teams collected a bit less each---but only 2 or 3 kilos less.
I must admit I thought it would be quite an unpleasant job picking up lots of rubbish, but it actually turned out to be the other way round.
At the end of the day we had a talk about the importance of the work we’d been doing. I was amazed I’d really recommend anyone to get involved next year. I’ll certainly be there again.
