2024届高考英语热点话题5G技术题型专练——阅读理解
A
We’re on the edge of a new age of interconnectedness, when the daily lives of people across the planet will be more closely connected than ever. Advances in technology will lead in the age of fifth generation, or 5G, telecommunications. And this technological evolution will lead to dramatic changes.
The first generation of mobile communications, with brick-sized phones, brought just a handful of users expensive and often unreliable voice calling. The second generation introduced digital voice service that was less likely to be dropped, available to many more people and finally cheaper to use. 3G led to a revolution in the mobile Internet, mobile computing, and the increase of apps. 4G made it possible that all we have come to expect of mobile broadband. We take all this connectivity for granted, but the engineering inside the device in your bag or pocket today would have seemed impossible less than 20 years ago.
So, where will 5G take us Think about a world in which not just people but all things are connected: cars to the roads they are on; doctors to the personal medical devices of their patients; augmented reality (AR) available to help people shop and learn and explore wherever they are. This requires a massive increase in the level of connectivity. 5G is the technological answer, making possible billions of new connections, and making those connections secure. 5G will impact every industry — autos, healthcare, manufacturing and distribution, emergency services, just to name a few. And 5G is purposely designed so that these industries can take advantage of cellular connectivity in ways that wouldn’t have been possible before, and to scale upwards as use of 5G expands.
But generational change in mobile communications doesn’t just appear overnight. It requires significant effort in research and development and the resources necessary to support that effort. Work on 4G took nearly a decade and the challenges were not easy. There is promise yet in what we’re capable of achieving.

Hospitals in Southwest China’s Sichuan Province for the first time used 5G technology for disaster medical rescue, after a magnitude 6.0 earthquake hit Changning county on 17 June, 2019. This is the world’s first case of applying 5G technology to disaster medical rescue.
According to the official Weibo account of Sichuan Provincial People’s Hospital, at 1:25 p.m. on 18 June, an ambulance equipped with a 5G emergency rescue system — the first of its kind in the country — carrying a medical team from Sichuan Provincial People’s Hospital and engineers from China Mobile Sichuan Company and China Mobile (Chengdu) Industrial Research Institute assisting in the joint rescue efforts arrived at Changning County Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). At around 9:30 p.m. Sichuan Provincial People’s Hospital launched a 5G real time remote video consultation with its medical team on a patient admitted to Changning County Hospital of TCM for a suspected spleen rupture (脾脏破裂).
According to Sichuan Provincial People’s Hospital, the 5G emergency rescue system, which puts artificial intelligence (AI), augmented reality (增强现实), virtual reality and drone (无人机) applications together, allows a series of medical checks including blood tests, electrocardiograms and ultrasounds (心电图和超声波) to be given to patients right away. The information can then be transferred back to the hospital in real time, which greatly saves time in rescuing patients.
The rescue system also helped a 72 year old patient who had his bone broken in the earthquake. According to a report from Chinanews.con, a temporary ward supported by 5G technology was established at the epicentre of the disaster zone for consultation with doctors from Chengdu, as the aged patient had a previous history of high blood pressure and cerebral infarction (脑梗塞), which made him need more careful treatment.
“The 5G -based network thoroughly solved the problems of poor definition and distortion (失真) of images, as well as interupted signal transmission,” said Li Wei, director of the emergency centre of Sichuan Provincial People’s Hospital.

Cars could soon be communicating with each other using 5G to make drivers aware of upcoming dangers, scientists claim. The ultra-fast mobile Internet would allow for rapid information transmission and could make drivers aware of black ice, pot holes or other dangers up ahead.
Several car manufacturers are already integrating 5G into their vehicles, including as a tool to welcome the coming of self-driving vehicles. Experts believe the high-speed connection will also improve the reliability and capability of automated vehicles to the point where they will be safer than the manual cars being driven today. They predict the number of road traffic accidents — which according to the World Health Organization (WHO) account for more than 1. 3 million deaths and up to 50 million people injured worldwide every year — will drop thoroughly as a result. Dr Dimitrios Liarokapis, a member of the research group, said: “With the help of 5G, an early warning system that alerts (给……报警) drivers is possible within the next few years. Cars that are close enough to the danger area will send warning messages to other cars around them using short-range communication technologies, but also to cars further away using 5G, fast and reliably. Then those cars will transmit the same information to cars near them and so on, forming a joined-up, multi-vehicle communication chain that stretches far and wide.”
Automotive giant Ford is already working on connected cars. Earlier this year it revealed its intention to fit 80 percent of its 2020 vehicles with technology that warns drivers about up-coming road accidents, bad weather and traffic jams. The system pools data from other connected road users, emergency services and the authorities and sends it from the cloud directly to the car. Alerts are shown on the car’s dashboard display warning the driver about what lies around the corner.
13.What can we expect of the cars in the future
A.They will be more personalized.
B.They may replace other vehicles.
C.They may be bigger.
D.They will be safer.
14.What is the function of the communication chain
A.To send warning messages.
B.To collect drivers’ information.
C.To send the traffic situation to the police.
D.To track other drivers.
15.How can 5G help reduce road accidents
A.By offering practical safety programs.
B.By offering the fast mobile Internet.
C.By helping WHO calculate traffic accidents.
D.By helping drivers overcome dangers.
16.What can be inferred from the last paragraph
A.Connected cars are equipped with 5G.

We have heard some interesting ways that 5G wireless technology might change our lives in the future.
5G, short for the 5th generation mobile communication technology, promises Internet speeds between 50 to 100 times faster than current 4G systems. While 5G is set to be used in some limited areas of America this year, much of the world is not expected to receive widely available service until 2023.
One project in Britain, however, is already testing this superfast technology on an unlikely group of Internet users — cows. The project was developed by American technology company Cisco Systems, Inc. It also receives money from the British government. Cisco says the program seeks to explore the future of 5G connectivity in rural areas around the world.
Testing areas were set up at farms in three rural areas of England. The cows are equipped with 5G-connected devices(装置) that link up to a robotic milking system, which uses sensors and machine learning to fully automate the process. System designers say technology takes over after a cow feels ready to be milked and walks toward an automatic gate. The device is designed to recognize each individual cow. It then positions equipment to the right body position for milking. During the process, machines release food for the cow as a reward.
Other 5G technology tools include automated brushes that turn on when the cow rubs (蹭) up against them. Sensors also control the amount of light to the cows’ living areas depending on the weather. And, an automatic feeding system makes sure the animals always get enough to eat.
Duncan Forbes, head of the project, told Reuters that the project shows the farm’s cow operations can be greatly improved with 5G technology and that the experiment provides strong evidence that 5G technology can be widely used in the future, not just on farms in Britain, but in rural communities across the world.
17.What is the purpose of Cisco Systems, Inc.’s project
A.To win financial support from British government.
B.To test the effects of 5G technology on animals.
C.To promote its technological development in Britain.
D.To expand the future use of 5G in rural communities.
18.What does the underlined word “It” in Paragraph 3 refer to
A.The project. B.The company.
C.The technology. D.The group.
19.What can we learn about 5G according to the text
A.It is no worse than 4G in terms of speed.
B.It is already widely available in the world.
C.It has made improvement in operating the cows.
D.It is based on sensors and machine learning.
20.In which section of a newspaper may this text appear
A.Entertainment. B.Lifestyle. C.Education. D.Technology.

If you look at the top of your phone, you'll usually see a little symbol that says 3G or 4G. The "G" stands for the "generation" (代) of your mobile network. But the symbols will become things of the past after 5G networks fully arrive.
On March 30, Shanghai vice-mayor Wu Qing made the first 5G video call on a Huawei Mate X Smartphone. Shanghai has also become the first city in China to start testing 5G networks.
About 100 times faster than 4G networks, 5G will let people download and upload data(数据) faster than ever before. But 5G won't just bring faster mobile internet. People can use it for many other things as well.
For example, 5G will help to make self-driving cars safer. Today's self-driving test cars have one problem-lag(延迟) . When the car "sees" an obstacle(障碍物) , it sends this information to a data center and receives instructions, However, it will be some time before it sends and receives this information. With this kind of lag, the cars might crash because they don't receive instructions in time. With 5G, this lag will be greatly lowered, making the cars safer.
5G could also be used to power the internet of things (IoT) , that is, a large online network that connects all things and people. Fast internet speeds will be the key to developing this technology.
The IoT could be used in a lot of ways. For example, with IoT, your refrigerator could automatically (自动地) place an order online for eggs when it finds that there are no eggs left inside.
21.Which city was 5G tested for the first time
A.Beijing. B.Shanghai. C.Shenzhen.
22.What can we infer(推测) according to the passage .
A.5G is widely used in China now.
B.5G networks will make our lives more convenient.
C.There are no symbols at the top of our phones.
23.The writer uses self-driving cars as an example to.
A.explain how 5G's fast speed can be helpful
B.warn about the possible dangers of self-driving cars
C.explain how self-driving cars work
24.What is IoT according to the passage
A.A robot that can do housework.
B.An online store where you can buy anything.
C.A large online network that connects things and people.
25.Which sentence is right according to the passage
A.5G will help us buy eggs quickly.
B.Robots can help us buy eggs online.
C.Our refrigerator can order eggs online for us.

5G wireless networks are ready to power the cities of tomorrow. However, exact implementation (实施) of 5G will vary from city to city, with each city having its own unique set of priorities, requirements, and objectives.
Since 5G enables countless service possibilities, cities must develop strategies around their specific needs. Business and civic leaders play a decisive role in this process, helping to drive smart city initiatives and ensuring that key infrastructure (基础设施) elements are in place.
Several urban areas, including Los Angeles, Dallas, Houston, Atlanta, and Chicago, are early to benefit from 5G. For operators, these large urban centers offer a critical mass of solid infrastructure to support 5G’s complex technology requirements.
Now, regional and local governments play a critical role in positioning their cities to become early 5G adopters. They have a growing responsibility to streamline the permitting process, change fee structures, and minimize regulator hurdles in order to enable greater 5G implementation.
Efforts are already in full force by industry players to overcome challenges for a smooth build out in areas where 5G is needed first. As business leaders take a more active role in ensuring that they are well positioned to better 5G services, they also increase their ability to transform their organizations into smart companies. Peter Linder, head of 5G marketing for North America at Ericsson, emphasizes the critical role individual leaders can play in making 5G and smart cities a reality.“5G will be introduced in urban areas first, driven by consumer and business’s needs,” he says.“Proactive city leaders appreciate the potential value of 5G for developing smart city solutions and will partner with service providers to speed up vital network development.”
The role of business and civic leaders as stimulators for encouraging 5G adoption is decisive to creating smarter, safer, and cleaner cities. The time is right for urban leaders and business executives (执行官) to work together toward making smart cities a reality.
26.What’s the key factor in 5G implementation
A.Promising values.
B.Solid infrastructure.
C.Individual leadership.
D.Leaders’ promoting role.
27.What should a concerning government do for 5G
A.Establish more smart companies.
B.Tap the value of 5G application.
C.Meet the needs of 5G adoption.
D.Collect money from local residents.
28.Which of the following words can best replace the underlined word in paragraph 5
A.Vital. B.Smart. C.Minor. D.Serious.
29.What is the author’s attitude towards 5G implementation
A.Negative. B.Positive. C.Uncaring. D.Doubtful.
H
All networks like 3G and 4G will be things of the past, because 5G will be reachable in the near future. So, what’s so special about a 5G future First of all, its download speed can be as fast as 20GB/s, which is 100 to 200 times that of 4G. But what’s more impressive is 5G’S low delay rate. Now, 4G takes an average of 200 milliseconds (毫秒) to send and receive information. But 5G will get it down to 1 millisecond.
5G is a great breakthrough (突破). It’s going to change the way equipment connects to the Internet, and more importantly, to each other. And self-driving cars may be one of the biggest breakthroughs to come out of 5G. Human reaction time is 200 milliseconds, yet we still have accidents every day. The self-driving car under a 5G network could react and communicate its reaction to hundreds of cars around it, all within 1 millisecond. It’ll play a great role in preventing car accidents and ending traffic jams completely.
5G can benefit us in many other ways. Operations could be performed by robots controlled by experts from the other side of the world. Therefore, more lives will be saved in time. Factories can be staffed by robots that can communicate their tasks to each other, and they can do more work efficiently over a 5G network. Imagine a group of drones (无人机) flying over a field of crops, using sensors (传感器) on the ground to sort, pick, feed, and water plants all on their own. Then farmers won’t have to work so hard anymore.
But, 5G is not perfect. One major disadvantage has to do with why it’s so fast. 5G uses the millimeter waves, while 4G uses the 15 to 40 centimeter-long waves. And shorter waves go fast but not very far. On 4G networks, the signal can go 10 kilometers. But the 5G signal can go at most 300 meters, and it can’t even go through walls or rain. So, what does that mean Having such a short signal distance means we need to build a lot of transmitters (信号发射塔) in the future.
30.How does the author show us 5G’s advantages in Paragraph 1
A.By giving examples of the uses of 5G.
B.By making comparisons between 4G and 5G.
C.By explaining the scientific principles of 5G.
D.By analyzing 5G’s development from 4G.
31.According to the author, the self-driving cars will ______.
A.cause more car accidents
B.slow down 5G’s development
C.ran without being connected to the Internet
D.have a much faster reaction speed than humans
32.What does the underlined part “be staffed by robots” in Paragraph 3 mean
A.Be built by robots.
B.Have robots as workers.
C.Offer employees home robots.
D.Produce more medical robots.
33.What is the main idea of the text
A.The development of 5G is challenging.
B.Some disadvantages of 5G network remain to be improved.
C.5G network could be applied to hospitals, factories and drones.
D.5G is a great breakthrough and can benefit people in many ways.
